இயேசு தம் சீடரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “உங்கள் தந்தை இரக்கமுள்ளவராய் இருப்பதுபோல நீங்களும் இரக்கம் உள்ளவர்களாய் இருங்கள். பிறர் குற்றவாளிகள் எனத் தீர்ப்பளிக்காதீர்கள்; அப்போதுதான் நீங்களும் தீர்ப்புக்கு உள்ளாகமாட்டீர்கள். மற்றவர்களைக் கண்டனம் செய்யாதீர்கள்; அப்போதுதான் நீங்களும் கண்டனத்துக்கு ஆளாக மாட்டீர்கள். மன்னியுங்கள்; மன்னிப்புப் பெறுவீர்கள். 

கொடுங்கள்; உங்களுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்படும்; அமுக்கிக் குலுக்கிச் சரிந்து விழும்படி நன்றாய் அளந்து உங்கள் மடியில் போடுவார்கள். நீங்கள் எந்த அளவையால் அளக்கிறீர்களோ அதே அளவையால் உங்களுக்கும் அளக்கப்படும்.”

இறைவாக்கினர் தானியேல் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 9: 4b-11a 

என் தலைவரே! நீர் மாட்சிமிக்க அஞ்சுதற்குரிய இறைவன். உம்மீது அன்புகொண்டு உம் கட்டளைகளின்படி நடப்பவர்களுடன் நீர் செய்துகொண்ட உடன்படிக்கையைக் காத்து அவர்களுக்குப் பேரன்பு காட்டுகின்றீர்! நாங்கள் பாவம் செய்தோம்; வழி தவறி நடந்தோம்; பொல்லாதவர்களாய் வாழ்ந்து உம்மை எதிர்த்து நின்றோம். உம் கட்டளைகளையும் நீதி நெறிகளையும் கைவிட்டோம். எங்களுடைய அரசர்கள், தலைவர்கள், தந்தையர்கள், நாட்டிலுள்ள மக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் இறைவாக்கினர்களாகிய உம் ஊழியர்கள் உமது பெயரால் பேசியதற்கு நாங்கள் செவிகொடுக்கவில்லை. 

என் தலைவரே! நீதி உமக்கு உரியது; எமக்கோ இன்று வரை கிடைத்துள்ளது அவமானமே. ஏனெனில், யூதாவின் ஆண்களும் எருசலேம்வாழ் மக்களும், இஸ்ரயேலைச் சார்ந்த யாவரும் ஆகிய நாங்கள், உமக்கு எதிராகச் செய்த துரோகத்தின் பொருட்டு, அருகிலோ தொலையிலோ உள்ள எல்லா நாடுகளுக்கும் உம்மால் இன்றுவரை விரட்டப்பட்டுள்ளோம். 

ஆம், ஆண்டவரே! அவமானமே எங்களுக்கும் எங்கள் அரசர்களுக்கும் தலைவர்களுக்கும் தந்தையர்களுக்கும் கிடைத்துள்ளது. ஏனெனில், நாங்கள் உமக்கு எதிராகப் பாவம் செய்தோம். எங்கள் தலைவரும் கடவுளுமாகிய உம்மிடத்தில் இரக்கமும் மன்னிப்பும் உண்டு. நாங்களோ உம்மை எதிர்த்து நின்றோம். எங்கள் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவர் தம் ஊழியர்களான இறைவாக்கினர் மூலம் தம் திருச்சட்டங்களை அளித்து அவற்றின் வழியில் நடக்குமாறு பணித்தார். நாங்களோ அவரது குரலொலியை ஏற்கவில்லை.

Reading from the book of the prophet Daniel (9, 4-10) 

I made this prayer and this confession to the Lord my God: “Ah! you Lord, the great and dreadful God, who keeps covenant and faithfulness to those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned, we have committed iniquity, we have done evil, we have been rebellious, we have are turned away from your commandments and your ordinances. We did not listen to your servants the prophets, who spoke in your name to our kings, to our princes, to our fathers, to all the people of the land. To you, Lord, justice; shame on our faces, as we see today for the people of Judah, for the inhabitants of Jerusalem and all Israel, for those who are near and for those who are far, in all the countries where you have them driven out, because of the infidelities they have committed towards you. Lord, shame on our faces, our kings, our princes, our fathers, because we have sinned against you. To the Lord our God, mercy and forgiveness, because we rebelled against him, we did not listen to the voice of the Lord our God, because we did not follow the laws which he proposed to us by his servants the prophets. நற்செய்தி வாசகம் 

என் அன்பார்ந்த மைந்தர் இவரே. 

✠ மாற்கு எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 9: 2-10 

அக்காலத்தில் 

இயேசு பேதுருவையும் யாக்கோபையும் யோவானையும் அழைத்து, ஓர் உயர்ந்த மலைக்கு அவர்களை மட்டும் தனிமையாகக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு போனார். அங்கே அவர்கள்முன் அவர் தோற்றம் மாறினார். அவருடைய ஆடைகள் இவ்வுலகில் எந்த சலவைக்காரரும் வெளுக்க முடியாத அளவுக்கு வெள்ளை வெளேரென ஒளிவீசின. அப்போது எலியாவும் மோசேயும் அவர்களுக்குத் தோன்றினர். இருவரும் இயேசுவோடு உரையாடிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். 

பேதுரு இயேசுவைப் பார்த்து, “ரபி, நாம் இங்கேயே இருப்பது நல்லது. உமக்கு ஒன்றும் மோசேக்கு ஒன்றும் எலியாவுக்கு ஒன்றுமாக மூன்று கூடாரங்களை அமைப்போம்” என்றார். தாம் சொல்வது என்னவென்று அவருக்குத் தெரியவில்லை. ஏனெனில் அவர்கள் மிகுந்த அச்சம் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். 

அப்போது ஒரு மேகம் வந்து அவர்கள் மேல் நிழலிட, அந்த மேகத்தினின்று, “என் அன்பார்ந்த மைந்தர் இவரே; இவருக்குச் செவிசாயுங்கள்” என்று ஒரு குரல் ஒலித்தது. உடனடியாக அவர்கள் சுற்றுமுற்றும் பார்த்தார்கள். தங்கள் அருகில் இயேசு ஒருவரைத் தவிர வேறு எவரையும் காணவில்லை. 

அவர்கள் மலையிலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்துகொண்டிருந்தபோது அவர், “மானிடமகன் இறந்து உயிர்த்தெழும்வரை, நீங்கள் கண்டதை எவருக்கும் எடுத்துரைக்கக் கூடாது” என்று அவர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டார். அவர்கள் இவ்வார்த்தையை அப்படியே மனத்தில் இருத்தி, ‘இறந்து உயிர்த்தெழுதல்’ என்றால் என்னவென்று ஒருவரோடு ஒருவர் பேசிக்கொண்டார்கள்.

கடவுள் நம் சார்பில் இருக்கும்போது, நமக்கு எதிராக இருப்பவர் யார்? தம் சொந்த மகனென்றும் பாராது அவரை நம் அனைவருக்காகவும் ஒப்புவித்த கடவுள், தம் மகனோடு அனைத்தையும் நமக்கு அருளாதிருப்பாரோ? கடவுள் தேர்ந்து கொண்டவர்களுக்கு எதிராய் யார் குற்றம் சாட்ட இயலும்? அவர்கள் குற்றமற்றவர்கள் எனக் காட்டுபவர் கடவுளே. அவர்களுக்கு யார் தண்டனைத் தீர்ப்பு அளிக்க இயலும்? இறந்து, ஏன், உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்பட்டுக் கடவுளின் வலப்பக்கத்தில் இருக்கும் கிறிஸ்து இயேசு நமக்காகப் பரிந்து பேசுகிறார் அன்றோ!

தொடக்க நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 22: 1-2, 9-13, 15-18

அந்நாள்களில்

கடவுள் ஆபிரகாமைச் சோதித்தார். அவர் அவரை நோக்கி, ஆபிரகாம்! என, அவரும் ‘இதோ! அடியேன்’ என்றார். அவர், “உன் மகனை, நீ அன்புகூரும் உன் ஒரே மகனான ஈசாக்கை அழைத்துக்கொண்டு, மோரியா நிலப் பகுதிக்குச் செல். அங்கு நான் உனக்குக் காட்டும் மலைகளில் ஒன்றின் மேல் எரி பலியாக அவனை நீ பலியிட வேண்டும்” என்றார்.

ஆபிரகாமுக்குக் கடவுள் குறிப்பிட்டுச் சொல்லிய இடத்தை அவர்கள் அடைந்தனர். அங்கே ஆபிரகாம் ஒரு பலிபீடம் அமைத்து அதன்மேல் விறகுக் கட்டைகளை அடுக்கி வைத்தார். பின் தம் மகன் ஈசாக்கைக் கட்டி, பீடத்தின் மீதிருந்த விறகுக் கட்டைகளின்மேல் கிடத்தினார். ஆபிரகாம் தம் மகனை வெட்டுமாறு தம் கையை நீட்டிக் கத்தியைக் கையிலெடுத்தார்.

அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவரின் தூதர் வானத்தினின்று ‘ஆபிரகாம்! ஆபிரகாம்’ என்று கூப்பிட, அவர் ‘இதோ! அடியேன்’ என்றார். அவர், “பையன்மேல் கை வைக்காதே; அவனுக்கு எதுவும் செய்யாதே; உன் ஒரே மகனையும் எனக்குப் பலியிட நீ தயங்கவில்லை என்பதிலிருந்து நீ கடவுளுக்கு அஞ்சுபவன் என்று இப்போது நான் அறிந்துகொண்டேன்” என்றார். அப்பொழுது ஆபிரகாம் தம் கண்களை உயர்த்திப் பார்த்தார். இதோ, முட்செடியில் கொம்பு மாட்டிக்கொண்டு நின்ற ஓர் ஆட்டுக்கிடாயைக் கண்டார். உடனே ஆபிரகாம் அங்குச் சென்று அந்தக் கிடாயைப் பிடித்துத் தம் மகனுக்குப் பதிலாக எரிபலியாக்கினார்.

ஆண்டவரின் தூதர் ஆபிரகாமை வானத்தினின்று மீண்டும் அழைத்து, “ஆண்டவர் கூறுவது இதுவே! நான் என்மீது ஆணையிட்டுக் கூறுகிறேன். உன் ஒரே மகனை எனக்குப் பலியிடத் தயங்காமல் நீ இவ்வாறு செய்தாய். ஆதலால் நான் உன்மீது உண்மையாகவே ஆசி பொழிந்து விண்மீன்களைப்போலவும் கடற்கரை மணலைப் போலவும் உன் வழிமரபைப் பலுகிப் பெருகச் செய்வேன். உன் வழிமரபினர் தம் பகைவர்களின் வாயிலை உரிமையாக்கிக்கொள்வர். மேலும், நீ என் குரலுக்குச் செவிகொடுத்ததனால் உலகின் அனைத்து இனத்தவரும் உன் வழிமரபின் மூலம் தங்களுக்கு ஆசி கூறிக்கொள்வர்” என்றார்.

Reading from the letter of Saint Paul the apostle to the Romans (8, 31b-34) 

Brothers, if God is for us, who will be against us? He did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for all of us: how could he, with him, not give us everything? Who will accuse those whom God has chosen? God is the one who makes righteous: so who can condemn? Christ Jesus is dead; moreover, he is risen, he is at the right hand of God, he intercedes for us.

In those days God put Abraham to the test. He said to him: “Abraham! The latter replied: "Here I am! God said: "Take your son, your only son, the one you love, Isaac, go to the land of Moriah, and there you will offer him as a burnt offering on the mountain that I will show you. They came to the place God had indicated. Abraham built the altar there and laid out the wood; then he bound his son Isaac and put him on the altar over the wood. Abraham stretched out his hand and grabbed the knife to sacrifice his son. But the angel of the Lord called him from on high and said: “Abraham! Abraham! He replied: "Here I am! "The angel said to him:" Do not lay your hand on the boy! Don't hurt her! I know now that you fear God: you did not refuse me your son, your only one. Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a bush. He went and took the ram and offered it as a burnt offering instead of his son.

இயேசு தம் சீடரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: ‘உனக்கு அடுத்திருப்பவரிடம் அன்பு கூர்வாயாக', ‘பகைவரிடம் வெறுப்புக் கொள்வாயாக’ எனக் கூறியிருப்பதைக் கேட்டிருக்கிறீர்கள். ஆனால் நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: உங்கள் பகைவரிடமும் அன்பு கூருங்கள்; உங்களைத் துன்புறுத்துவோருக்காக இறைவனிடம் வேண்டுங்கள். இப்படிச் செய்வதால் நீங்கள் உங்கள் விண்ணகத் தந்தையின் மக்கள் ஆவீர்கள். ஏனெனில் அவர் நல்லோர் மேலும் தீயோர் மேலும் தம் கதிரவனை உதித்தெழச் செய்கிறார். நேர்மையுள்ளோர் மேலும் நேர்மையற்றோர் மேலும் மழை பெய்யச் செய்கிறார். 

உங்களிடத்தில் அன்பு செலுத்துவோரிடமே நீங்கள் அன்பு செலுத்துவீர்களானால் உங்களுக்கு என்ன கைம்மாறு கிடைக்கும்? வரிதண்டுவோரும் இவ்வாறு செய்வதில்லையா? நீங்கள் உங்கள் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளுக்கு மட்டும் வாழ்த்துக் கூறுவீர்களானால் நீங்கள் மற்றவருக்கும் மேலாகச் செய்துவிடுவதென்ன? பிற இனத்தவரும் இவ்வாறு செய்வதில்லையா? 

ஆதலால், உங்கள் விண்ணகத் தந்தை நிறைவுள்ளவராய் இருப்பதுபோல நீங்களும் நிறைவுள்ளவர்களாய் இருங்கள்.

I say to you: Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may truly be the children of your Father who is in heaven; for he causes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good; he sends rain on the just and on the unjust. Indeed, if you love those who love you, what reward do you deserve? Do not the tax collectors themselves do the same? And if you only greet your brothers, what are you doing that is extraordinary? Do the pagans themselves not do the same? You therefore will be perfect as your Heavenly Father is perfect. "

Moses said to the people of Israel: “Today the Lord your God commands you to put into practice these decrees and ordinances. You will make sure to practice them with all your heart and with all your soul. Today you have obtained from the Lord this declaration: he will be your God; you, you will follow his ways, you will keep his decrees, his commandments and his ordinances, you will listen to his voice. Today the Lord has obtained from you this declaration: you will be his people, his particular domain, as he told you, you will have to keep all his commandments. நேரியவர் தம் நேரிய நடத்தையினின்று விலகி, தவறிழைத்தால், அவர்கள் தாம் இழைத்த தவற்றின் பொருட்டுச் சாவர். பொல்லார் தாம் செய்த பொல்லாப்பினின்று விலகி, நீதியையும் நேர்மையையும் கடைப்பிடித்தால் தம் உயிரை அவர்கள் காத்துக்கொள்வர். அவர்கள் உண்மையைக் கண்டுணர்ந்து, தாம் செய்த குற்றங்கள் அனைத்தினின்றும் விலகிவிட்டால், அவர்கள் வாழ்வது உறுதி; அவர்கள் சாகமாட்டார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 5:20-26 

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘If your virtue goes no deeper than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never get into the kingdom of heaven.

  ‘You have learnt how it was said to our ancestors: You must not kill; and if anyone does kill he must answer for it before the court. But I say this to you: anyone who is angry with his brother will answer for it before the court; if a man calls his brother “Fool” he will answer for it before the Sanhedrin; and if a man calls him “Renegade” he will answer for it in hell fire. So then, if you are bringing your offering to the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar, go and be reconciled with your brother first, and then come back and present your offering. Come to terms with your opponent in good time while you are still on the way to the court with him, or he may hand you over to the judge and the judge to the officer, and you will be thrown into prison. I prefer to see the wicked man renounce his wickedness and live

A Reading from the Book of Ezekiel 18:21-28 .

Thus says the Lord:

  ‘If the wicked man renounces all the sins he has committed, respects my laws and is law-abiding and honest, he will certainly live; he will not die. All the sins he committed will be forgotten from then on; he shall live because of the integrity he has practised. What! Am I likely to take pleasure in the death of a wicked man – it is the Lord who speaks – and not prefer to see him renounce his wickedness and live?

  ‘But if the upright man renounces his integrity, commits sin, copies the wicked man and practises every kind of filth, is he to live? All the integrity he has practised shall be forgotten from then on; but this is because he himself has broken faith and committed sin, and for this he shall die. But you object, “What the Lord does is unjust.” Listen, you House of Israel: is what I do unjust? Is it not what you do that is unjust? When the upright man renounces his integrity to commit sin and dies because of this, he dies because of the evil that he himself has committed. When the sinner renounces sin to become law-abiding and honest, he deserves to live. He has chosen to renounce all his previous sins; he shall certainly live; he shall not die.’

உங்களுள் எவராவது ஒருவர் அப்பத்தைக் கேட்கும் தம் பிள்ளைக்குக் கல்லைக் கொடுப்பாரா? அல்லது, பிள்ளை மீன் கேட்டால் பாம்பைக் கொடுப்பாரா? தீயோர்களாகிய நீங்களே உங்கள் பிள்ளைகளுக்கு நற்கொடைகள் அளிக்க அறிந்திருக்கிறீர்கள். அப்படியானால் விண்ணுலகில் உள்ள உங்கள் தந்தை தம்மிடம் கேட்போருக்கு இன்னும் மிகுதியாக நன்மைகள் அளிப்பார் அல்லவா! 

ஆகையால் பிறர் உங்களுக்குச் செய்யவேண்டும் என விரும்புகிறவற்றை எல்லாம் நீங்களும் அவர்களுக்குச் செய்யுங்கள். இறைவாக்குகளும் திருச்சட்டமும் கூறுவது இதுவே.

தீர்ப்பு நாளில் நினிவே மக்கள் இத்தலைமுறையினரோடு எழுந்து இவர்களைக் கண்டனம் செய்வார்கள். ஏனெனில் யோனா அறிவித்த செய்தியைக் கேட்டு அவர்கள் மனம் மாறியவர்கள். ஆனால் இங்கிருப்பவர் யோனாவைவிடப் பெரியவர் அல்லவா!

நினிவே மக்கள் தங்கள் தீய வழிகளை விட்டு விலகினார்கள். 

இறைவாக்கினர் யோனா நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 3: 1-10 

இரண்டாம் முறையாக யோனாவுக்கு ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு அருளப்பட்டது. அவர், “நீ புறப்பட்டு நினிவே மாநகருக்குப் போய், நான் உன்னிடம் சொல்லும் செய்தியை அங்குள்ளோருக்கு அறிவி” என்றார். அவ்வாறே யோனா புறப்பட்டு ஆண்டவரது கட்டளைப்படி நினிவேக்குச் சென்றார். நினிவே ஒரு மாபெரும் நகர். அதைக் கடக்க மூன்று நாள் ஆகும். யோனா நகருக்குள் சென்று, ஒரு நாள் முழுதும் நடந்த பின், உரத்தகுரலில், “இன்னும் நாற்பது நாளில் நினிவே அழிக்கப்படும்” என்று அறிவித்தார். 

நினிவே நகர மக்கள் கடவுளின் செய்தியை நம்பி, எல்லாரும் நோன்பிருக்க முடிவு செய்தார்கள். பெரியோர் சிறியோர் அனைவரும் சாக்கு உடை உடுத்திக்கொண்டனர். இந்தச் செய்தி நினிவே அரசனுக்கு எட்டியது. அவன் தன் அரியணையை விட்டிறங்கி, அரச உடையைக் களைந்துவிட்டு, சாக்கு உடை உடுத்திக்கொண்டு, சாம்பல் மீது உட்கார்ந்தான். மேலும் அவன் ஓர் ஆணை பிறப்பித்து, அதை நினிவே முழுதும் பறைசாற்றச் செய்தான். “இதனால் அரசரும் அரச அவையினரும் மக்கள் அனைவருக்கும் அறிவிப்பதாவது: எந்த மனிதரும் உணவைச் சுவைத்துக்கூடப் பார்க்கக்கூடாது. ஆடு, மாடு முதலிய விலங்குகளும் தீனி தின்னவோ தண்ணீர் குடிக்கவோ கூடாது. மனிதரும் விலங்குகளும் சாக்கு உடை உடுத்திக்கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டும். ஒவ்வொருவரும் கடவுளை நோக்கி மன்றாட வேண்டும்; தம் தீய வழிகளையும், தாம் செய்துவரும் கொடுஞ்செயல்களையும் விட்டொழிக்க வேண்டும். இவ்வாறு செய்தால், கடவுள் ஒருவேளை தம் மனத்தை மாற்றிக்கொள்வார்; அவரது கடுஞ்சினமும் தணியும்; நமக்கு அழிவு வராது.”

As Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be a sign.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 11:29-32 

The crowds got even bigger, and Jesus addressed them:

  ‘This is a wicked generation; it is asking for a sign. The only sign it will be given is the sign of Jonah. For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation. On Judgement day the Queen of the South will rise up with the men of this generation and condemn them, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and there is something greater than Solomon here. On Judgement day the men of Nineveh will stand up with this generation and condemn it, because when Jonah preached they repented; and there is something greater than Jonah here.’

The word of the Lord was addressed to Jonah: ‘Up!’ he said ‘Go to Nineveh, the great city, and preach to them as I told you to.’ Jonah set out and went to Nineveh in obedience to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was a city great beyond compare: it took three days to cross it. Jonah went on into the city, making a day’s journey. He preached in these words, ‘Only forty days more and Nineveh is going to be destroyed.’ And the people of Nineveh believed in God; they proclaimed a fast and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least. The news reached the king of Nineveh, who rose from his throne, took off his robe, put on sackcloth and sat down in ashes. A proclamation was then promulgated throughout Nineveh, by decree of the king and his ministers, as follows: ‘Men and beasts, herds and flocks, are to taste nothing; they must not eat, they must not drink water. All are to put on sackcloth and call on God with all their might; and let everyone renounce his evil behaviour and the wicked things he has done. Who knows if God will not change his mind and relent, if he will not renounce his burning wrath, so that we do not perish?’ God saw their efforts to renounce their evil behaviour, and God relented: he did not inflict on them the disaster which he had threatened.

At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: “When you pray, do not repeat like the pagans: they imagine that by dint of words they will be heard. So do not imitate them, for your Father knows what you need, even before you ask for it. You therefore pray thus: Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we ourselves forgive our debtors. And do not let us enter into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For if you forgive men for their sins, your heavenly Father will forgive you too. But if you do not forgive men, neither will your Father forgive your faults. "

அக்காலத்தில் 

இயேசு, பிலிப்புச் செசரியா பகுதிக்குச் சென்றார். அவர் தம் சீடரை நோக்கி, “மானிடமகன் யாரென்று மக்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள்?” என்று கேட்டார். 

அதற்கு அவர்கள், “சிலர் திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் எனவும் வேறு சிலர் எலியா எனவும் மற்றும் சிலர் எரேமியா அல்லது பிற இறைவாக்கினருள் ஒருவர் என்றும் சொல்கின்றனர்” என்றார்கள். 

“ஆனால் நீங்கள், நான் யார் எனச் சொல்கிறீர்கள்?” என்று அவர் கேட்டார். 

சீமோன் பேதுரு மறுமொழியாக, “நீர் மெசியா, வாழும் கடவுளின் மகன்” என்று உரைத்தார். அதற்கு இயேசு, “யோனாவின் மகனான சீமோனே, நீ பேறுபெற்றவன். ஏனெனில் எந்த மனிதரும் இதை உனக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தவில்லை; மாறாக விண்ணகத்திலுள்ள என் தந்தையே வெளிப்படுத்தியுள்ளார். எனவே நான் உனக்குக் கூறுகிறேன்: உன் பெயர் பேதுரு; இந்தப் பாறையின் மேல் என் திருச்சபையைக் கட்டுவேன். பாதாளத்தின் வாயில்கள் அதன் மேல் வெற்றி கொள்ளா. விண்ணரசின் திறவுகோல்களை நான் உன்னிடம் தருவேன். மண்ணுலகில் நீ தடைசெய்வது விண்ணுலகிலும் தடை செய்யப்படும். மண்ணுலகில் நீ அனுமதிப்பது விண்ணுலகிலும் அனுமதிக்கப்படும்” என்றார்.

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To Matthew (16, 13-19) 

At that time, Jesus, having arrived in the region of Caesarea-Philippi, asked his disciples: “According to the people, who is the Son of man? They answered: "For some, John the Baptist; for others, Elijah; for still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets. "Jesus asked them:" And you, what are you saying? For you, who am I? Then Simon Peter spoke up and said: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God!" »Speaking in his turn, Jesus said to him:« Happy are you, Simon son of Jonas: it is not flesh and blood which have revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. And I tell you: You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church; and the power of Death will not prevail over it. The Lord is my Shepherd:

I lack nothing.

On meadows of fresh grass,

he makes me rest. R 

He leads me to still waters

and brings me back to life;

he leads me by the right path

for the honor of his name. R 

If I cross the ravines of death,

I fear no harm,

for you are with me:

your staff guides me and reassures me. R 

You prepare the table for me

before my enemies; 

you spread the perfume on my head,

my cup is overflowing. R 

Grace and happiness are with me

every day of my life;

from the first letter of Saint Peter the apostle (5, 1-4) 

Beloved, the elders in office among you, I urge them, I who am an elder like them and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, communing in the glory which will be revealed: be the shepherds of the flock of God which is with you; watch over him, not by compulsion but willingly, according to God; not out of greed but out of devotion; not by commanding as masters those entrusted to you, but by becoming models of the flock. And, when the Head of the Pastors appears, you will receive the crown of glory which does not wither.

தூய ஆவியால் இயேசு பாலைநிலத்துக்கு அனுப்பிவைக்கப்பட்டார். பாலைநிலத்தில் அவர் நாற்பது நாள் இருந்தார்; அப்போது சாத்தானால் சோதிக்கப்பட்டார்; அங்குக் காட்டு விலங்குகளிடையே இருந்தார். வானதூதர் அவருக்குப் பணிவிடை செய்தனர். 

யோவான் கைதுசெய்யப்பட்டபின், கடவுளின் நற்செய்தியைப் பறைசாற்றிக்கொண்டே இயேசு கலிலேயாவிற்கு வந்தார். “காலம் நிறைவேறிவிட்டது. இறையாட்சி நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டது; மனம் மாறி நற்செய்தியை நம்புங்கள்” என்று அவர் கூறினார். 

இது கிறிஸ்து வழங்கும் நற்செய்தி.
