22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time (week II of the Psalter) — Year B
Readings of the Mass
First reading
“You shall not add anything to what I command you… you shall keep the commandments of the Lord” (Dt 4, 1-2.6-8)
Reading from the Book of Deuteronomy
Moses said to the people:
“Now, Israel, listen to the statutes and the ordinances
that I am teaching you, so that you may do them.
So you will live and go in to possess
the land that the Lord, the God of your fathers, is giving you.
You will not add to what I command you
or take away from it,
but you will keep the commandments of the Lord your God
, as I command you.
You will keep them and do them;
they will be your wisdom and your understanding
in the eyes of all the peoples.
When they hear about all these decrees,
they will say,
‘There is no wise and understanding people
like this great nation!’
For what great nation is there
whose gods are as near
as the Lord our God is near to us
whenever we call on him?
And what great nation is there
whose statutes and ordinances are as righteous
as all this Law that I am giving you today?”
– Word of the Lord.
