A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 7:31-35 

At that time: Jesus said, “To what then shall I compare the people of this generation, and what are they like? They are like children sitting in the market-place and calling to one another, “‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not weep.’ For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by all her children.”

The mystery of our religion is very deep

A reading from the first letter of St.Timothy 3: 14-16 

Beloved: I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these things to you so that, if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth. Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of godliness: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு நயீன் என்னும் ஊருக்குச் சென்றார். அவருடைய சீடரும் பெருந்திரளான மக்களும் அவருடன் சென்றனர். அவர் அவ்வூர் வாயிலை நெருங்கி வந்தபோது, இறந்த ஒருவரைச் சிலர் தூக்கி வந்தனர். தாய்க்கு அவர் ஒரே மகன்; அத்தாயோ கைம்பெண். அவ்வூரைச் சேர்ந்த பெருந்திரளான மக்களும் அவரோடு இருந்தனர்.

அவரைக் கண்ட ஆண்டவர், அவர்மீது பரிவு கொண்டு, “அழாதீர்” என்றார். அருகில் சென்று பாடையைத் தொட்டார். அதைத் தூக்கிச் சென்றவர்கள் நின்றார்கள்.

அப்பொழுது அவர், “இளைஞனே, நான் உனக்குச் சொல்கிறேன், எழுந்திடு” என்றார். இறந்தவர் எழுந்து உட்கார்ந்து பேசத் தொடங்கினார். இயேசு அவரை அவர் தாயிடம் ஒப்படைத்தார்.

அனைவரும் அச்சமுற்று, “நம்மிடையே பெரிய இறைவாக்கினர் ஒருவர் தோன்றியிருக்கிறார். கடவுள் தம் மக்களைத் தேடி வந்திருக்கிறார்” என்று சொல்லிக் கடவுளைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்தனர். அவரைப் பற்றிய இந்தச் செய்தி யூதேயா நாடு முழுவதிலும் சுற்றியுள்ள பகுதிகளிலும் பரவியது.

அன்பிற்குரியவரே,

சபையைக் கண்காணிக்கும் பொறுப்பை நாடுகிற எவரும் மேன்மையானதொரு பணியை விரும்புகிறார். இக்கூற்று உண்மையானது. ஆகவே, சபைக் கண்காணிப்பாளராக இருப்பவர் குறைச் சொல்லுக்கு ஆளாகாதவராயும் ஒரு மனைவி கொண்டவராயும், அறிவுத் தெளிவு, கட்டுப்பாடு, விருந்தோம்பல், கற்பிக்கும் ஆற்றல் ஆகியவற்றை உடையவராயும் இருக்க வேண்டும். அவர் குடி வெறிக்கும் வன்முறைக்கும் இடங்கொடாது, கனிந்த உள்ளத்தவராய் இருக்க வேண்டும்; சண்டையையும் பொருளாசையையும் தவிர்ப்பவராக இருக்க வேண்டும்; தமது சொந்தக் குடும்பத்தை நல்ல முறையில் நடத்தி, தம் பிள்ளைகள் பணிவுடனும் மிகுந்த கண்ணியத்துடனும் வளர ஆவன செய்பவராக இருக்க வேண்டும். தமது சொந்தக் குடும்பத்தை நடத்தத் தெரியாத ஒருவரால், கடவுளின் சபையை எவ்வாறு கவனிக்க முடியும்? திருச்சபையில் புதிதாகச் சேர்ந்த ஒருவர் கண்காணிப்பாளராகக் கூடாது. அவ்வாறு ஆவாரானால் அவர் தற்பெருமை கொள்ளலாம். அதனால் அலகைக்குக் கிடைத்த தண்டனையை அவர் அடைய நேரிடும். சபைக் கண்காணிப்பாளர் திருச்சபைக்கு வெளியே உள்ளவர்களிடமும் நற்சான்று பெற்றவராய் இருக்க வேண்டும். இல்லாவிட்டால் அவர் இழிச் சொல்லுக்கு ஆளாகலாம்; அலகையின் கண்ணியிலும் விழ நேரிடலாம்.

அவ்வாறே திருத்தொண்டர்களும் கண்ணியம் உடையவர்களாக இருக்க வேண்டும்; இரட்டை நாக்கு உள்ளவர்களாகவும் குடிவெறிக்கு அடிமைப்பட்டவர்களாகவும் இழிவான ஊதியத்தின் மேல் ஆசை உள்ளவர்களாகவும் இருத்தலாகாது. எச்சரிக்கை! தூய மனச்சான்று உடையவர்களாய் விசுவாசத்தின் மறைபொருளைக் காத்து வரவேண்டும். முதலில் இவர்களைச் சோதித்துப் பார்க்க வேண்டும். இவர்கள் குறையற்றவர்கள் எனக் காணப்பட்டால் திருப்பணியாற்றலாம். அது போலவே பெண்களும் கண்ணியமுடையவராயும் புறங்கூறாதவராயும் அறிவுத் தெளிவு உடையவராயும் எல்லாவற்றிலும் நம்பத்தக்கவராயும் இருக்கவேண்டும். திருத்தொண்டர்கள் ஒரு மனைவி கொண்டவர்களாயும், பிள்ளைகளையும் சொந்தக் குடும்பத்தையும் நல்ல முறையில் நடத்துகிறவர்களாயும் இருக்க வேண்டும். நன்கு திருத்தொண்டு ஆற்றுவோர் உயர் மதிப்புப் பெறுவர். இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் மேலுள்ள நம்பிக்கையைக் குறித்து அதிகத் துணிவோடு பேசுவர்.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 7: 11-17

At that time: Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. As he drew near to the gate of the town, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow, and a considerable crowd from the town was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, “Do not weep.” Then he came up and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, “Young man, I say to you, arise.” And the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and “God has visited his people!” And this report about him spread through the whole of Judea and all the surrounding country.
