நண்பர்களையல்ல, ஏழைகளையும் ஊனமுற்றோரையும் பார்வையற்றோரையும் அழையும்.

அக்காலத்தில்

தம்மை விருந்துக்கு அழைத்தவரிடம் இயேசு, “நீர் பகல் உணவோ இரவு உணவோ அளிக்கும்போது உம் நண்பர்களையோ, சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளையோ, உறவினர்களையோ, செல்வம் படைத்த அண்டை வீட்டாரையோ அழைக்க வேண்டாம். அவ்வாறு அழைத்தால் அவர்களும் உம்மைத் திரும்ப அழைக்கலாம். அப்பொழுது அதுவே உமக்குக் கைம்மாறு ஆகிவிடும். மாறாக, நீர் விருந்து அளிக்கும்போது ஏழைகளையும் உடல் ஊனமுற்றோரையும் கால் ஊனமுற்றோரையும் பார்வையற்றோரையும் அழையும். அப்போது நீர் பேறுபெற்றவர் ஆவீர். ஏனென்றால் உமக்குக் கைம்மாறு செய்ய அவர்களிடம் ஒன்றுமில்லை. நேர்மையாளர்கள் உயிர்த்தெழும்போது உமக்குக் கைம்மாறு கிடைக்கும்” என்று கூறினார்.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

கடவுள் தாம் விடுத்த அழைப்பையும் கொடுத்த அருள்கொடைகளையும் திரும்பப் பெற்றுக்கொள்வதில்லை. ஒரு காலத்தில் நீங்கள் கடவுளுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படியாமல் இருந்தீர்கள்; இப்பொழுது அவர்கள் கீழ்ப்படியாமல் இருப்பதால், நீங்கள் கடவுளின் இரக்கத்தைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டீர்கள். அது போல, இக்காலத்தில் நீங்கள் இரக்கத்திற்குரியவர்களாக இருக்கிறீர்கள்; அவர்கள் கீழ்ப்படியாமல் இருக்கிறார்கள்; ஆனால் அவர்களும் விரைவில் இரக்கம் பெற்றுக்கொள்வார்கள்; அதன் பொருட்டே இவ்வாறு நடந்திருக்கிறது. ஏனெனில், அனைவருக்கும் இரக்கம் காட்டுவதற்காகவே கடவுள் அனைவரையும் கீழ்ப்படியாமைக்கு உட்படுத்தினார்.

கடவுளின் அருள் செல்வம் எத்துணை மிகுதியானது! அவருடைய ஞானமும் அறிவும் எத்துணை ஆழமானவை! அவருடைய தீர்ப்புகள் அறிவுக்கு எட்டாதவை! அவருடைய செயல்முறைகள் ஆராய்ச்சிக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டவை! “ஏனெனில் ஆண்டவரின் மனத்தை அறிபவர் யார்? அவருக்கு அறிவுரையாளராய் இருப்பவர் யார்? தமக்குக் கைம்மாறாக ஏதாவது கிடைக்கும் என முன்னதாகவே அவரிடம் கொடுத்து வைத்தவர் யார்?” அனைத்தும் அவரிடமிருந்தே வந்தன; அவராலேயே உண்டாயின; அவருக்காகவே இருக்கின்றன, அவருக்கே என்றென்றும் மாட்சி உரித்தாகுக! ஆமென்.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 14:12-14 

At that time: Jesus said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbours, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”

God never takes back his gifts

A reading from the letter of St.Paul to the Romans 11: 29-36 

Brethren: The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. For just as you were at one time disobedient to God but now have received mercy because of their disobedience, so they too have now been disobedient in order that by the mercy shown to you they also may now receive mercy. For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all. Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counsellor?” “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?” For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory for ever. Amen.
