பிற இனத்தாரின் காலம் நிறைவு பெறும்வரை எருசலேம் அவர்களால் மிதிக்கப்படும்.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடர்களை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “எருசலேமைப் படைகள் சூழ்ந்திருப்பதை நீங்கள் காணும்போது அதன் அழிவு நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டது என அறிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள். அப்போது யூதேயாவில் உள்ளவர்கள் மலைகளுக்குத் தப்பி ஓடட்டும்; நகரத்தின் நடுவில் உள்ளவர்கள் வெளியேறட்டும்; நாட்டுப் புறங்களில் இருப்பவர்கள் நகரத்துக்குள்ளே வரவேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் அவை பழிவாங்கும் நாள்கள். அப்போது மறைநூலில் எழுதியுள்ள யாவும் நிறைவேறும்.

அந்நாள்களில் கருவுற்றிருப்போர், பாலூட்டுவோர் ஆகியோரின் நிலைமை அந்தோ பரிதாபம்! ஏனெனில் மண்ணுலகின்மீது பேரிடரும் அம்மக்கள்மீது கடவுளின் சினமும் வரும். அவர்கள் கூரான வாளால் வீழ்த்தப்படுவார்கள்; எல்லா நாடுகளுக்கும் சிறைப்பிடித்துச் செல்லப்படுவார்கள்; பிற இனத்தார் காலம் நிறைவு பெறும்வரை எருசலேம் அவர்களால் மிதிக்கப்படும்.

மேலும் கதிரவனிலும் நிலாவிலும் விண்மீன்களிலும் அடையாளங்கள் தென்படும். மண்ணுலகில் மக்களினங்கள் கடலின் கொந்தளிப்பின் முழக்கத்தினால் கலங்கி, என்ன செய்வதென்று தெரியாது குழப்பம் அடைவார்கள். உலகிற்கு என்ன நேருமோ என எண்ணி மனிதர் அச்சத்தினால் மயக்கமுறுவர். ஏனெனில், வான்வெளிக் கோள்கள் அதிரும்.

அப்போது மிகுந்த வல்லமையோடும் மாட்சியோடும் மானிடமகன் மேகங்கள்மீது வருவதை அவர்கள் காண்பார்கள். இவை நிகழத் தொடங்கும்போது, நீங்கள் தலை நிமிர்ந்து நில்லுங்கள்; ஏனெனில் உங்கள் மீட்பு நெருங்கி வருகின்றது.”

கடவுள் தம் தூதரை அனுப்பிச் சிங்கங்களின் வாய்களைக் கட்டிப் போட்டார்.

இறைவாக்கினர் தானியேல் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 6: 11-27

அந்நாள்களில்

முன்னரே கூடிப் பேசிக்கொண்டபடி, அந்த மனிதர்கள் உள்ளே நுழைந்து தானியேல் தம் கடவுளிடம் வேண்டுவதையும் மன்றாடுவதையும் கண்டார்கள்.

உடனே அவர்கள் அரசனை அணுகி, அவனது தடையுத்தரவைப் பற்றிக் குறிப்பிட்டு, “அரசரே! முப்பது நாள்வரையில் அரசராகிய உம்மிடமன்றி வேறெந்தத் தெய்வத்திடமோ மனிதனிடமோ யாதொரு விண்ணப்பமும் செய்கின்ற எந்த மனிதனும் சிங்கக் குகையில் தள்ளப்படுவான் என்ற தடையுத்தரவில் கையொப்பமிட்டுள்ளீர் அல்லவா?” என்றார்கள்.

அதற்கு அரசன், “ஆம், மேதியர், பாரசீகரின் சட்டங்கள் மாறாதிருப்பது போல், இதுவும் மாறாததே” என்றான்.

உடனே அவர்கள் அரசனை நோக்கி, “யூதாவிலிருந்து சிறைப்பிடித்துக் கொண்டு வரப்பட்டவர்களுள் ஒருவனாகிய தானியேல் உம்மை மதியாமல், நீர் கையொப்பமிட்டுள்ள தடையுத்தரவை மீறி நாள்தோறும் மூன்று வேளையும் வேண்டுதல் செய்கிறான்” என்றார்கள். ஆனால், அரசன் இந்தச் சொற்களைக் கேட்டு மிகவும் மனம் வருந்தினான்; தானியேலைக் காப்பாற்றத் தனக்குள் உறுதி பூண்டவனாய், அன்று கதிரவன் மறையும் வரையில் அவரைக் காப்பாற்ற வழி தேடினான்.

ஆனால் அந்த மனிதர்கள் முன்னரே கூடிப் பேசிக்கொண்டபடி, அரசனிடம் வந்து, அவனை நோக்கி, “அரசரே! மேதியர், பாரசீகரின் சட்டப்படி, அரசன் விடுத்த தடையுத்தரவோ சட்டமோ மாற்றத்திற்கு அப்பாற்பட்டது என்பதைத் தெரிந்துகொள்ளும்” என்றனர்.

ஆகவே, அரசனுடைய கட்டளைப்படி தானியேல் கொண்டு வரப்பட்டுச் சிங்கக் குகையில் தள்ளப்பட்டார். அப்பொழுது அரசன் தானியேலை நோக்கி, “நீ இடைவிடாமல் வழிபடும் உன் கடவுள் உன்னை விடுவிப்பாராக!” என்றான். அவர்கள் ஒரு பெரிய கல்லைப் புரட்டிக் கொண்டுவந்து குகையின் வாயிலை அடைத்தார்கள்; தானியேலுக்குச் செய்யப்பட்டதில் யாதொன்றும் மாற்றப்படாதிருக்கும்படி அரசன் தன் மோதிரத்தாலும் தம் உயர்குடி மக்களின் மோதிரங்களாலும் அதற்கு முத்திரையிட்டான்.

பின்னர் அரசன் அரண்மனைக்குத் திரும்பிச்சென்று, அன்றிரவு முழுவதும் உணவு கொள்ளவில்லை; வேறு எந்தக் களியாட்டத்திலும் ஈடுபடவில்லை. உறக்கமும் அவனை விட்டு அகன்றது. பொழுது புலர்ந்தவுடன், அவன் எழுந்து சிங்கக் குகைக்கு விரைந்து சென்றான். தானியேல் இருந்த குகையருகில் வந்தவுடன் துயரக் குரலில் அவன் தானியேலை நோக்கி, “தானியேல்! என்றுமுள கடவுளின் ஊழியனே! நீ இடைவிடாமல் வழிபடும் உன் கடவுளால் உன்னைச் சிங்கங்களினின்று விடுவிக்க முடிந்ததா?” என்று உரக்கக் கேட்டான்.

அதற்குத் தானியேல் அரசனிடம், “அரசரே! நீர் நீடூழி வாழ்க! என் கடவுள் தம் தூதரை அனுப்பிச் சிங்கங்களின் வாய்களைக் கட்டிப் போட்டார். அவை எனக்குத் தீங்கு எதுவும் செய்யவில்லை; ஏனெனில் அவர் திருமுன் நான் மாசற்றவன். மேலும் அரசரே! உம் முன்னிலையிலும் நான் குற்றமற்றவனே” என்று மறுமொழி கொடுத்தார். எனவே, அரசன் மிகவும் மனம் மகிழ்ந்து, உடனே தானியேலைக் குகையிலிருந்து விடுவிக்குமாறு கட்டளையிட்டான். அவ்வாறே தானியேலைக் குகையிலிருந்து வெளியே தூக்கினார்கள். அவருக்கு யாதொரு தீங்கும் நேரிடவில்லை; ஏனெனில் அவர் தம் கடவுளை உறுதியாக நம்பினார். பிறகு அரசனது கட்டளைக்கிணங்க, தானியேலைக் குற்றம் சாட்டியவர்கள் இழுத்துக் கொண்டுவரப்பட்டனர். அவர்களும் அவர்களுடைய மனைவி, மக்களும் சிங்கக் குகையினுள் தள்ளப்பட்டார்கள். அவர்கள் குகையின் அடித்தளத்தை அடையும் முன்னே சிங்கங்கள் அவர்களைக் கவ்விப் பிடித்து, அவர்களுடைய எலும்புகளை எல்லாம் நொறுக்கிவிட்டன.

அப்பொழுது தாரியு அரசன் நாடெங்கும் வாழ்ந்துவந்த எல்லா இனத்தவருக்கும் நாட்டினருக்கும் மொழியினருக்கும் ஓர் அறிக்கை விடுத்தான். “உங்களுக்கு மிகுந்த சமாதானம் உண்டாவதாக! என் ஆட்சிக்குட்பட்ட நாடு முழுவதும் உள்ள மக்கள் தானியேலின் கடவுளுக்கு அஞ்சி நடுங்க வேண்டும். இது என் ஆணை. ஏனெனில், அவரே வாழும் கடவுள்; அவர் என்றென்றும் நிலைத்திருக்கின்றார்; அவரது ஆட்சி என்றும் அழிவற்றது; அவரது அரசுரிமைக்கு முடிவே இராது. தானியேலைச் சிங்கங்களின் பிடியினின்று காப்பாற்றியவர் அவரே; அவரே மீட்பவர்! விடுதலை அளிப்பவரும் அவரே! விண்ணிலும் மண்ணிலும் அரிய செயல்களையும் விந்தைகளையும் ஆற்றுபவர் அவரே!”

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to  St. Luke 21: 20-28 

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, and let those who are inside the city depart, and let not those who are out in the country enter it, for these are days of vengeance, to fulfil all that is written. Alas for women who are pregnant and for those who are nursing infants in those days! For there will be great distress upon the earth and wrath against this people. They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive among all nations, and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. “And there will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves, people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

A Reading from the Book of Daniel 6: 12-28. 

In those days: Some men came by agreement and found Daniel making petition and plea before his God. Then they came near and said before the king, concerning the injunction, “O king! Did you not sign an injunction, that anyone who makes petition to any god or man within thirty days except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?” The king answered and said, “The thing stands fast, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be revoked.” Then they answered and said before the king, “Daniel, who is one of the exiles from Judah, pays no attention to you, O king, or the injunction you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.” Then the king, when he heard these words, was much distressed and set his mind to deliver Daniel. And he laboured till the sun went down to rescue him. Then these men came by agreement to the king and said to the king, “Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians that no injunction or ordinance that the king establishes can be changed.” Then the king commanded, and Daniel was brought and cast into the den of lions. The king declared to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, deliver you!” And a stone was brought and laid on the mouth of the den, and the king sealed it with his own signet and with the signet of his lords, that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel. Then the king went to his palace and spent the night fasting; no diversions were brought to him, and sleep fled from him. Then, at break of day, the king arose and went in haste to the den of lions. As he came near to the den where Daniel was, he cried out in a tone of anguish. The king declared to Daniel, “O Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?” Then Daniel said to the king, “O king, live for ever! My God sent his angel and shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not harmed me,

because I was found blameless before him; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.” Then the king was exceedingly glad, and commanded that Daniel be taken up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God. And the king commanded, and those men who had maliciously accused Daniel were brought and cast into the den of lions— they, their children, and their wives. And before they reached the bottom of the den, the lions overpowered them and broke all their bones in pieces. Then King Darius wrote

to all the peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: “Peace be multiplied to you. I make a decree, that in all my royal dominion people are to tremble and fear before the God of Daniel, for he is the living God, enduring for ever; his kingdom shall never be destroyed, and his dominion shall be to the end. He delivers and rescues; he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, he who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions.”
