எலியா ஏற்கெனவே வந்துவிட்டார்; அவரை மக்கள் கண்டுணரவில்லை.

✠ மத்தேயு எழுதிய தூய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 17: 10-13

இயேசுவும் சீடர்களும் மலையிலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்தபோது சீடர்கள் அவரிடம், “எலியாதான் முதலில் வரவேண்டும் என்று மறைநூல் அறிஞர்கள் கூறுகிறார்களே, அது எப்படி?” என்று கேட்டார்கள். அவர் மறுமொழியாக, “எலியா வந்து எல்லாவற்றையும் சீர்ப்படுத்தப் போகிறார் என்று கூறுவது உண்மையே. ஆனால் நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: எலியா ஏற்கெனவே வந்துவிட்டார். அவரை மக்கள் கண்டுணரவில்லை. மாறாக, தாங்கள் விரும்பியவாறெல்லாம் அவருக்குச் செய்தார்கள். அவ்வாறே மானிடமகனையும் அவர்கள் துன்புறுத்துவார்கள்” என்றார். திருமுழுக்கு யோவானைப் பற்றியே அவர் தங்களோடு பேசினார் என்பதை அப்பொழுது சீடர்கள் புரிந்துகொண்டார்கள்.

இறைவாக்கினர் எலியா நெருப்புபோல் எழுந்தார்; தீவட்டிபோல் அவருடைய சொல் பற்றியெரிந்தது. மக்கள் மீது பஞ்சம் வரச் செய்தார்; தம் பற்றார்வத்தால் அவர்களை எண்ணிக்கையில் சிலராக்கினார். ஆண்டவருடைய சொல்லால் வானம் பொழிவதை நிறுத்தினார்; மும்முறை நெருப்பு விழச் செய்தார். எலியாவே, உம்முடைய வியத்தகு செயல்களில் நீர் எத்துணை மாட்சிக்குரியவர்! உமக்கு இணையாய் யார் பெருமை பாராட்டக்கூடும்?

தீச்சூறாவளியில் நெருப்புக் குதிரைகள் பூட்டிய தேரில் நீர் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளப்பட்டீர். ஆண்டவருடைய சினம் சீற்றமாய் மாறுமுன் அதைத் தணிப்பதற்கும் தந்தையின் உள்ளத்தை மகனை நோக்கித் திருப்புவதற்கும் யாக்கோபின் குலங்களை மீண்டும் நிலைநிறுத்துவதற்கும் குறித்த காலங்களில் நீர் கடிந்து கொள்வீர் என்று எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளது. உம்மைக் கண்டவர்களும் உமது அன்பில் துயில் கொண்டவர்களும் பேறுபெற்றோர். நாமும் வாழ்வது உறுதி.

As they were coming down the mountain, the disciples asked Jesus, “Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” He answered, “Elijah does come, and he will restore all things. But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.” Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.

Oh that you had paid attention to my commandments!
