The Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 24: 37-44 

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

A. Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to Romans 13:11-14 

Brethren: Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armour of light. Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh.

I rejoiced when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” And now our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem.

It is there that the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord. For Israel’s witness it is to praise the name of the Lord. There were set the thrones for judgment, the thrones of the house of David.

A Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah 2:1-5 

The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be lifted up above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it, and many peoples shall come, and say: “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths.” For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. He shall judge between the nations, and shall decide disputes for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. அக்காலத்தில்

மானிடமகன் வருகையைப்பற்றி இயேசு தம் சீடரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “நோவாவின் காலத்தில் இருந்தது போலவே மானிட மகன் வருகையின்போதும் இருக்கும். வெள்ளப் பெருக்குக்கு முந்தைய காலத்தில், நோவா பேழைக்குள் சென்ற நாள்வரை எல்லாரும் திருமணம் செய்து கொண்டும் உண்டும் குடித்தும் வந்தார்கள். வெள்ளப்பெருக்கு வந்து அனைவரையும் அடித்துச் செல்லும்வரை அவர்கள் எதையும் அறியாதிருந்தார்கள். அப்படியே மானிடமகன் வருகையின்போதும் இருக்கும். இருவர் வயலில் இருப்பர். ஒருவர் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளப்படுவார்; மற்றவர் விட்டு விடப்படுவார். இருவர் திரிகையில் மாவரைத்துக்கொண்டிருப்பர். ஒருவர் எடுத்துக் கொள்ளப்படுவார்; மற்றவர் விட்டுவிடப்படுவார்.

விழிப்பாயிருங்கள்; ஏனெனில் உங்கள் ஆண்டவர் எந்த நாளில் வருவார் என உங்களுக்குத் தெரியாது. இரவில் எந்தக் காவல் வேளையில் திருடன் வருவான் என்று வீட்டு உரிமையாளருக்குத் தெரிந்திருந்தால் அவர் விழித்திருந்து தம் வீட்டில் கன்னமிடவிடமாட்டார் என்பதை அறிவீர்கள். எனவே நீங்களும் ஆயத்தமாய் இருங்கள். ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் நினையாத நேரத்தில் மானிட மகன் வருவார்.”

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

இறுதிக்காலம் இதுவே என அறிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள்; உறக்கத்தினின்று விழித்தெழும் நேரம் ஏற்கெனவே வந்துவிட்டது. நாம் கிறிஸ்துவின்மேல் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டபோது இருந்ததை விட மீட்பு இப்பொழுது மிக அண்மையில் உள்ளது.

இரவு முடியப்போகிறது; பகல் நெருங்கி உள்ளது. ஆகவே இருளின் ஆட்சிக்குரிய செயல்களைக் களைந்து விட்டு, ஒளியின் ஆட்சிக்குரிய படைக்கலங்களை அணிந்து கொள்வோமாக! பகலில் நடப்பதுபோல மதிப்போடு நடந்து கொள்வோமாக! களியாட்டம், குடிவெறி, கூடா ஒழுக்கம், காமவெறி, சண்டைச்சச்சரவு, ஆகியவற்றைத் தவிர்ப்போமாக! தீய இச்சைகளைத் தூண்டும் ஊனியல்பின் நாட்டங்களுக்கு இடம் கொடுக்க வேண்டாம். இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவை அணிந்து கொள்ளுங்கள்.

இறையரசின் முடிவில்லா அமைதியில் நாடுகள் அனைத்தையும் ஆண்டவர் ஒன்றுசேர்க்கிறார்.

யூதாவையும் எருசலேமையும் குறித்து ஆமோட்சின் மகன் எசாயா கண்ட காட்சி:

இறுதி நாள்களில் ஆண்டவரின் கோவில் அமைந்துள்ள மலை எல்லா மலைகளுக்குள்ளும் உயர்ந்ததாய் நிலை நிறுத்தப்படும்; எல்லாக் குன்றுகளுக்குள்ளும் மேலாய் உயர்த்தப்படும்; மக்களினங்கள் அதைநோக்கிச் சாரை சாரையாய் வருவார்கள்.

வேற்றினத்தார் பலர் அங்கு வந்து சேர்ந்து ‘புறப்படுங்கள் ஆண்டவரின் மலைக்குச் செல்வோம்; யாக்கோபின் கடவுளின் கோவிலுக்குப் போவோம். அவர் தம் வழிகளை நமக்குக் கற்பிப்பார்; நாமும் அவர் நெறிகளில் நடப்போம்’ என்பார்கள். ஏனெனில், சீயோனிலிருந்தே திருச்சட்டம் வெளிவரும்; எருசலேமிலிருந்தே ஆண்டவரின் திருவாக்கு புறப்படும்.

அவர் வேற்றினத்தாரிடையே உள்ள வழக்குகளைத் தீர்த்து வைப்பார்; பல இன மக்களுக்கும் தீர்ப்பளிப்பார்; அவர்கள் தங்கள் வாள்களைக் கலப்பைக் கொழுக்களாகவும் தங்கள் ஈட்டிகளைக் கருக்கரிவாள்களாகவும் அடித்துக் கொள்வார்கள், ஓர் இனத்திற்கு எதிராக மற்றோர் இனம் வாள் எடுக்காது; அவர்கள் இனி ஒருபோதும் போர்ப்பயிற்சி பெற மாட்டார்கள். யாக்கோபின் குடும்பத்தாரே, வாருங்கள் நாம் ஆண்டவரின் ஒளியில் நடப்போம்.
