நண்பர்களையல்ல, ஏழைகளையும் ஊனமுற்றோரையும் பார்வையற்றோரையும் அழையும்.

அக்காலத்தில்

தம்மை விருந்துக்கு அழைத்தவரிடம் இயேசு, “நீர் பகல் உணவோ இரவு உணவோ அளிக்கும்போது உம் நண்பர்களையோ, சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளையோ, உறவினர்களையோ, செல்வம் படைத்த அண்டை வீட்டாரையோ அழைக்க வேண்டாம். அவ்வாறு அழைத்தால் அவர்களும் உம்மைத் திரும்ப அழைக்கலாம். அப்பொழுது அதுவே உமக்குக் கைம்மாறு ஆகிவிடும். மாறாக, நீர் விருந்து அளிக்கும்போது ஏழைகளையும் உடல் ஊனமுற்றோரையும் கால் ஊனமுற்றோரையும் பார்வையற்றோரையும் அழையும். அப்போது நீர் பேறுபெற்றவர் ஆவீர். ஏனென்றால் உமக்குக் கைம்மாறு செய்ய அவர்களிடம் ஒன்றுமில்லை. நேர்மையாளர்கள் உயிர்த்தெழும்போது உமக்குக் கைம்மாறு கிடைக்கும்” என்று கூறினார்.

ஒரு மனத்தவராயிருந்து என் மகிழ்ச்சியை நிறைவாக்குங்கள்.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

கிறிஸ்துவிடமிருந்து நீங்கள் ஊக்கம் பெற்றுள்ளீர்களா? அன்பினால் ஆறுதலும், தூய ஆவியினால் தோழமையும் பரிவுள்ளமும் இரக்கமும் கொண்டுள்ளீர்களா? அப்படியானால் நீங்கள் ஒரே எண்ணமும் ஒரே அன்பும் ஒரே உள்ளமும் கொண்டவராய்த் திகழ்ந்து, ஒரு மனத்தவராயிருந்து என் மகிழ்ச்சியை நிறைவாக்குங்கள். கட்சி மனப்பான்மைக்கும் வீண் பெருமைக்கும் இடம் தர வேண்டாம். மனத் தாழ்மையோடு மற்றவர்களை உங்களிலும் உயர்ந்தவராகக் கருதுங்கள். நீங்கள் யாவரும் உங்களைச் சார்ந்தவற்றில் அல்ல, பிறரைச் சார்ந்தவற்றிலேயே அக்கறை கொள்ள வேண்டும்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 14: 12-14 

Jesus said to his host, one of the leading Pharisees, ‘When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not ask your friends, brothers, relations or rich neighbours, for fear they repay your courtesy by inviting you in return. No; when you have a party, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; that they cannot pay you back means that you are fortunate, because repayment will be made to you when the virtuous rise again.’

Be united in your love

A reading from the letter of St.Paul to the Philippians 2:1-4 

If our life in Christ means anything to you, if love can persuade at all, or the Spirit that we have in common, or any tenderness and sympathy, then be united in your convictions and united in your love, with a common purpose and a common mind. That is the one thing which would make me completely happy. There must be no competition among you, no conceit; but everybody is to be self-effacing. Always consider the other person to be better than yourself, so that nobody thinks of his own interests first but everybody thinks of other people’s interests instead.

'You are not far from the kingdom of God'

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Mark 12: 28-34.

One of the scribes came up to Jesus and put a question to him, ‘Which is the first of all the commandments?’ Jesus replied, ‘This is the first: Listen, Israel, the Lord our God is the one Lord, and you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: You must love your neighbour as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.’ The scribe said to him, ‘Well spoken, Master; what you have said is true: that he is one and there is no other. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and strength, and to love your neighbour as yourself, this is far more important than any holocaust or sacrifice.’ Jesus, seeing how wisely he had spoken, said, ‘You are not far from the kingdom of God.’ And after that no one dared to question him any more.
