September 6th : First Reading 

If you do not speak to the wicked man, I will hold you responsible for his death.

A Reading from the Book of Ezekiel 33:7-9 

The word of the Lord was addressed to me as follows: ‘Son of man, I have appointed you as sentry to the House of Israel. When you hear a word from my mouth, warn them in my name. If I say to a wicked man: Wicked wretch, you are to die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked man to renounce his ways, then he shall die for his sin, but I will hold you responsible for his death. If, however, you do warn a wicked man to renounce his ways and repent, and he does not repent, then he shall die for his sin, but you yourself will have saved your life.’

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு சீடர்களிடம் கூறியது: “உங்கள் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளுள் ஒருவர் உங்களுக்கு எதிராகப் பாவம் செய்தால் நீங்களும் அவரும் தனித்திருக்கும்போது அவரது குற்றத்தை எடுத்துக்காட்டுங்கள். அவர் உங்களுக்குச் செவிசாய்த்தால் நல்லது; உங்கள் உறவு தொடரும். இல்லையென்றால் ‘இரண்டு அல்லது மூன்று சாட்சிகளுடைய வாக்குமூலத்தால் அனைத்தும் உறுதி செய்யப்படும்’ என்னும் மறைநூல் மொழிக்கு ஏற்ப உங்களோடு ஒன்றிரண்டு பேரைக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு போங்கள். அவர்களுக்கும் செவிசாய்க்காவிடில் திருச்சபையிடம் கூறுங்கள். திருச்சபைக்கும் செவிசாய்க்காவிடில் அவர் உங்களுக்கு வேற்று இனத்தவர் போலவும் வரிதண்டுபவர் போலவும் இருக்கட்டும்.

மண்ணுலகில் நீங்கள் தடை செய்பவை அனைத்தும் விண்ணுலகிலும் தடை செய்யப்படும்; மண்ணுலகில் நீங்கள் அனுமதிப்பவை அனைத்தும் விண்ணுலகிலும் அனுமதிக்கப்படும் என நான் உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். உங்களுள் இருவர் மண்ணுலகில் தாங்கள் வேண்டும் எதைக் குறித்தும் மனமொத்திருந்தால் விண்ணுலகில் இருக்கும் என் தந்தை அதை அவர்களுக்கு அருள்வார்.

ஏனெனில் இரண்டு அல்லது மூன்று பேர் என் பெயரின் பொருட்டு எங்கே ஒன்றாகக் கூடியிருக்கின்றார்களோ அங்கே அவர்களிடையே நான் இருக்கிறேன் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்றார்.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

நீங்கள் யாருக்கும் எதிலும் கடன்படாதீர்கள். ஒருவருக்கொருவர் அன்பு செலுத்துவதே நீங்கள் செலுத்த வேண்டிய ஒரே கடனாய் இருக்கட்டும். பிறரிடத்தில் அன்புகூர்பவர் திருச்சட்டத்தை நிறைவேற்றுபவர் ஆவார். ஏனெனில், “விபசாரம் செய்யாதே, கொலை செய்யாதே, களவு செய்யாதே, பிறருக்குரியதைக் கவர்ந்திட விரும்பாதே” என்னும் கட்டளைகளும், பிற கட்டளைகளும், “உன்மீது அன்புகூர்வதுபோல், உனக்கு அடுத்திருப்பவர் மீதும் அன்புகூர்வாயாக” என்னும் கட்டளையில் அடங்கியுள்ளன. அன்பு அடுத்திருப்பவருக்குத் தீங்கிழைக்காது. ஆகவே அன்பே திருச்சட்டத்தின் நிறைவு.

Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down his disciples came to him. And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. "Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. "Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so men persecuted the prophets who were before you. "You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trodden under foot by men. "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

A Reading from the First Letter of St.Paul to the Corinthians 13:1-13.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;

it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends; as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect; but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became a man, I gave up childish ways. For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully, even as I have been fully understood. So faith, hope, love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
