அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தலைமைக் குருக்களையும் மக்களின் மூப்பர்களையும் நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியைப்பற்றி நீங்கள் என்ன நினைக்கிறீர்கள்? ஒரு மனிதருக்கு இரு புதல்வர்கள் இருந்தார்கள். அவர் மூத்தவரிடம் போய், ‘மகனே, நீ இன்று திராட்சைத் தோட்டத்திற்குச் சென்று வேலை செய்’ என்றார். அவர் மறுமொழியாக, ‘நான் போக விரும்பவில்லை’ என்றார். ஆனால் பிறகு தம் எண்ணத்தை மாற்றிக்கொண்டு போய் வேலை செய்தார். அவர் அடுத்த மகனிடமும் போய் அப்படியே சொன்னார். அவர் மறுமொழியாக, ‘நான் போகிறேன் ஐயா!’ என்றார்; ஆனால் போகவில்லை. இவ்விருவருள் எவர் தந்தையின் விருப்பப்படி செயல்பட்டவர்?” என்று கேட்டார். அவர்கள் “மூத்தவரே” என்று விடையளித்தனர்.

இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “வரிதண்டுவோரும் விலைமகளிரும் உங்களுக்கு முன்பாகவே இறையாட்சிக்கு உட்படுவர் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். ஏனெனில் யோவான் நீதிநெறியைக் காட்ட உங்களிடம் வந்தார். நீங்களோ அவரை நம்பவில்லை. மாறாக வரிதண்டுவோரும் விலைமகளிரும் அவரை நம்பினர். அவர்களைப் பார்த்த பின்பும் நீங்கள் உங்கள் எண்ணத்தை மாற்றிக்கொள்ளவும் இல்லை; அவரை நம்பவும் இல்லை” என்றார்.

ஆண்டவர் கூறுகிறார்:

கலகம் செய்ததும் தீட்டுப்பட்டதும் மக்களை ஒடுக்கியதுமான நகருக்கு ஐயோ கேடு! எந்தச் சொல்லுக்கும் அவள் செவிசாய்ப்பதில்லை; கண்டிப்புரையை அவள் ஏற்பதுமில்லை; ஆண்டவர்மேல் அவள் நம்பிக்கை வைப்பதில்லை; தன் கடவுளை அண்டி வருவதுமில்லை.

அக்காலத்தில் நான் மக்களினங்களுக்குத் தூய நாவினை அருள்வேன்; அப்போது அவர்கள் அனைவரும் ஆண்டவரின் பெயரால் மன்றாடி ஒருமனப்பட்டு அவருக்குப் பணிபுரிவார்கள். எத்தியோப்பியாவின் ஆறுகளுக்கும் அப்பாலிருந்து என்னை மன்றாடுவோர் - சிதறுண்ட என் மக்கள் - எனக்குக் காணிக்கை கொண்டு வருவார்கள்.

எனக்கு எதிராக எழுந்து நீ செய்த குற்றங்களை முன்னிட்டு அந்நாளில் அவமானம் அடையமாட்டாய்; ஏனெனில், அப்பொழுது இறுமாப்புடன் அக்களித்திருப்போரை உன்னிடமிருந்து அகற்றிவிடுவேன்; இனி ஒருபோதும் எனது திருமலையில் செருக்கு அடையமாட்டாய். ஏழை எளியோரை உன் நடுவில் நான் விட்டுவைப்பேன்; அவர்கள் ஆண்டவரின் பெயரில் நம்பிக்கை கொள்வார்கள்.

இஸ்ரயேலில் எஞ்சியோர் கொடுமை செய்யமாட்டார்கள்; வஞ்சகப் பேச்சு அவர்களது வாயில் வராது; அச்சுறுத்துவார் யாருமின்றி, அவர்கள் மந்தைபோல் மேய்ந்து இளைப்பாறுவார்கள்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 21:28-32 

At that time: Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people, “What do you think? A man had two sons. And he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ And he answered, ‘I will not’, but afterwards he changed his mind and went. And he went to the other son and said the same. And he answered, ‘I go, sir’, but did not go. Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you. For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. And even when you saw it, you did not afterwards change your minds and believe him.”

A Reading from the Book of Zephaniah 3:1-2,9-13 

Thus says the Lord: “Woe to her who is rebellious and defiled, the oppressing city! She listens to no voice; she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the Lord; she does not draw near to her God. “For at that time I will change the speech of the peoples to a pure speech, that all of them may call upon the name of the Lord and serve him with one accord. From beyond the rivers of Cush my worshipers, the daughter of my dispersed ones, shall bring my offering. “On that day you shall not be put to shame because of the deeds by which you have rebelled against me; for then I will remove from your midst

your proudly exultant ones, and you shall no longer be haughty in my holy mountain. But I will leave in your midst a people humble and lowly. They shall seek refuge in the name of the Lord, those who are left in Israel; they shall do no injustice and speak no lies, nor shall there be found in their mouth a deceitful tongue. For they shall graze and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.”
