Wherever the water flows, it will bring life and health.

A Reading from the Book of Ezekiel 47:1-2,8-9,12 

The angel brought me to the entrance of the Temple, where a stream came out from under the Temple threshold and flowed eastwards, since the Temple faced east. The water flowed from under the right side of the Temple, south of the altar. He took me out by the north gate and led me right round outside as far as the outer east gate where the water flowed out on the right-hand side. He said, ‘This water flows east down to the Arabah and to the sea; and flowing into the sea it makes its waters wholesome. Wherever the river flows, all living creatures teeming in it will live. Fish will be very plentiful, for wherever the water goes it brings health, and life teems wherever the river flows. Along the river, on either bank, will grow every kind of fruit tree with leaves that never wither and fruit that never fails; they will bear new fruit every month, because this water comes from the sanctuary. And their fruit will be good to eat and the leaves medicinal.’

யோவான் எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 2: 13-22 

அக்காலத்தில் யூதர்களுடைய பாஸ்கா விழா விரைவில் வரவிருந்ததால் இயேசு எருசலேமுக்குச் சென்றார்; கோவிலில் ஆடு, மாடு, புறா விற்போரையும் அங்கே உட்கார்ந்திருந்த நாணயம் மாற்றுவோரையும் கண்டார். அப்போது கயிறுகளால் ஒரு சாட்டை பின்னி, அவர்கள் எல்லாரையும் கோவிலிலிருந்து துரத்தினார்; ஆடு மாடுகளையும் விரட்டினார்; நாணயம் மாற்றுவோரின் சில்லறைக் காசுகளைக் கொட்டிவிட்டு, மேசைகளையும் கவிழ்த்துப் போட்டார். அவர் புறா விற்பவர்களிடம், ``இவற்றை இங்கிருந்து எடுத்துச் செல்லுங்கள்; என் தந்தையின் இல்லத்தைச் சந்தை ஆக்காதீர்கள்'' என்று கூறினார். அப்போது அவருடைய சீடர்கள், ``உம் இல்லத்தின் மீதுள்ள ஆர்வம் என்னை எரித்து விடும்'' என்று மறைநூலில் எழுதியுள்ளதை நினைவுகூர்ந்தார்கள். யூதர்கள் அவரைப் பார்த்து, ``இவற்றையெல்லாம் செய்ய உமக்கு உரிமை உண்டு என்பதற்கு நீர் காட்டும் அடையாளம் என்ன?'' என்று கேட்டார்கள். இயேசு மறுமொழியாக அவர்களிடம், ``இக்கோவிலை இடித்து விடுங்கள். நான் மூன்று நாளில் இதைக் கட்டி எழுப்புவேன்'' என்றார். அப்போது யூதர்கள், ``இந்தக் கோவிலைக் கட்ட நாற்பத்தாறு ஆண்டுகள் ஆயிற்றே! நீர் மூன்றே நாளில் இதைக் கட்டி எழுப்பிவிடுவீரோ?'' என்று கேட்டார்கள். ஆனால் அவர் தம் உடலாகிய கோவிலைப் பற்றியே பேசினார். அவர் இறந்து உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்பட்ட போது அவருடைய சீடர் அவர் இவ்வாறு சொல்லியிருந்ததை நினைவுகூர்ந்து, மறைநூலையும் இயேசுவின் கூற்றையும் நம்பினர்.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே, நீங்கள் கடவுள் எழுப்பும் கட்டடம். கடவுள் எனக்கு அளித்த அருளின் படியே, நான் கைதேர்ந்த கட்டடக் கலைஞர் போல அடித்தளம் இட்டேன். அதன்மேல் வேறொருவர் கட்டுகிறார். ஒவ்வொருவரும் தாம் கட்டும் முறையைக் குறித்துக் கவனமாக இருக்க வேண்டும். ஏற்கெனவே அடித்தளம் இட்டாயிற்று. இவ்வடித்தளம் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவே. வேறோர் அடித்தளத்தை இட எவராலும் முடியாது. நீங்கள் கடவுளுடைய கோவில் என்றும் கடவுளின் ஆவியார் உங்களில் குடியிருக்கிறார் என்றும் உங்களுக்குத் தெரியாதா? ஒருவர் கடவுளின் கோவிலை அழித்தால் கடவுள் அவரை அழித்துவிடுவார். ஏனெனில் கடவுளின் கோவில் தூயது; நீங்களே அக்கோவில்.

1 கடவுள் நமக்கு அடைக்கலமும் ஆற்றலுமாய் உள்ளார்;

இடுக்கணுற்ற வேளைகளில் நமக்கு உற்ற துணையும் அவரே.

2 ஆகையால், நிலவுலகம் நிலை குலைந்தாலும், மலைகள் ஆழ்கடலில் அதிர்ந்து நடுங்கினாலும்,

அந்நாள்களில் ஒரு மனிதர் என்னைக் கோவிலின் நுழைவாயிலுக்கு மீண்டும் அழைத்து வந்தார். அங்கு நான் கோவிலின் வாயிற்படியின் கீழிருந்து கிழக்கு நோக்கித் தண்ணீர் வருவதைக் கண்டேன். ஏனெனில், கோவில் கிழக்கு நோக்கி இருந்தது. தண்ணீர், கோவில் மற்றும் பீடத்தின் தெற்குப் பக்கத்திலிருந்து வந்தது. அவர் என்னை வடக்கு வாயில் வழியாய் அழைத்து வந்து கிழக்கு நோக்கிய வெளிவாயிலின் வெளிப்பகுதிக்கு இட்டுச் சென்றார். இதோ! தண்ணீர் தெற்குப் பகுதியிலிருந்து பாய்ந்து கொண்டிருந்தது. அவர் என்னிடம் உரைத்தது: ``இத்தண்ணீர் கிழக்குப் பகுதியை நோக்கிப் பாய்ந்து அராபாவில் சேர்கிறது. அங்கு அது கடலோடு கலக்கிறது. அது கடலோடு கலக்கையில் அத்தண்ணீர் அங்கு நல்ல தண்ணீராக மாறும். இந்த ஆறு பாயும் இடமெல்லாம் திரளான உயிரினங்கள் வாழும். அங்கு ஏராளமான மீன்கள் இருக்கும். ஏனெனில் இத்தண்ணீர் பாய்ந்து அங்குள்ள நீரை நல்ல நீராய் மாற்றும். எனவே அது பாயும் இடமெல்லாம் யாவும் உயிர் வாழும். பல வகையான பழமரங்கள் ஆற்றின் இருமருங்கிலும் வளரும்; அவற்றின் இலைகள் உதிரா; அவற்றில் கனிகள் குறையா. ஒவ்வொரு மாதமும் அவை கனி கொடுக்கும்; ஏனெனில் தூயகத்திலிருந்து தண்ணீர் அவற்றிற்குப் பாய்கின்றது. அவற்றின் கனிகள் உணவாகவும் இலைகள் மருந்தாகவும் பயன்படும்.''

The wise and foolish virgins

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 25:1-13 

Jesus told this parable to his disciples: ‘The kingdom of heaven will be like this: Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were sensible: the foolish ones did take their lamps, but they brought no oil, whereas the sensible ones took flasks of oil as well as their lamps. The bridegroom was late, and they all grew drowsy and fell asleep. But at midnight there was a cry, “The bridegroom is here! Go out and meet him.” At this, all those bridesmaids woke up and trimmed their lamps, and the foolish ones said to the sensible ones, “Give us some of your oil: our lamps are going out.” But they replied, “There may not be enough for us and for you; you had better go to those who sell it and buy some for yourselves.” They had gone off to buy it when the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him to the wedding hall and the door was closed. The other bridesmaids arrived later. “Lord, Lord,” they said “open the door for us.” But he replied, “I tell you solemnly, I do not know you.” So stay awake, because you do not know either the day or the hour.’

Do not grieve about those who have died in Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 

We want you to be quite certain, brothers, about those who have died, to make sure that you do not grieve about them, like the other people who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again, and that it will be the same for those who have died in Jesus: God will bring them with him. We can tell you this from the Lord’s own teaching, that any of us who are left alive until the Lord’s coming will not have any advantage over those who have died. At the trumpet of God, the voice of the archangel will call out the command and the Lord himself will come down from heaven; those who have died in Christ will be the first to rise, and then those of us who are still alive will be taken up in the clouds, together with them; to meet the Lord in the air. So we shall stay with the Lord for ever. With such thoughts as these you should comfort one another.
