In the evening, Jesus' disciples went down to the sea. They embarked to reach Capernaum, on the other shore. It was already darkness, and Jesus had not yet joined the disciples. A great wind was blowing, and the sea was rough. The disciples had rowed a distance of twenty-five or thirty stadia (that is, about five thousand yards), when they saw Jesus walking on the sea and approaching the boat. They chose seven men filled with the Holy Spirit 

Reading from the book of Acts of the Apostles (6, 1-7) 

In those days, as the number of disciples increased, the Greek-speaking brethren complained against the Hebrew-speaking ones, because the widows in their group were at a disadvantage in daily service. The Twelve then called together all the disciples and said to them: “It is not good that we forsake the word of God to serve at tables. Rather, brothers, seek seven of you, men who are esteemed by all, filled with the Holy Spirit and with wisdom, and we will establish them in this office. As far as we are concerned, we will remain assiduous in prayer and in the service of the Word. These words pleased everyone, and they chose: Stephen, a man filled with faith and the Holy Spirit, Philip, Procore, Nicanor, Timon, Parménas and Nicolas, a convert to Judaism, originally from Antioch.

The word of God was fruitful, the number of disciples greatly increased in Jerusalem, and a large crowd of Jewish priests came to obey the faith.

இயேசு நிமிர்ந்து பார்த்து மக்கள் பெருந்திரளாய் அவரிடம் வருவதைக் கண்டு, “இவர்கள் உண்பதற்கு நாம் எங்கிருந்து அப்பம் வாங்கலாம்?” என்று பிலிப்பிடம் கேட்டார். தாம் செய்யப்போவதை அறிந்திருந்தும் அவரைச் சோதிப்பதற்காகவே இக்கேள்வியைக் கேட்டார். பிலிப்பு மறுமொழியாக, “இருநூறு தெனாரியத்திற்கு அப்பம் வாங்கினாலும் ஆளுக்கு ஒரு சிறு துண்டும் கிடைக்காதே” என்றார். அவருடைய சீடருள் ஒருவரும் சீமோன் பேதுருவின் சகோதரருமான அந்திரேயா, “இங்கே சிறுவன் ஒருவன் இருக்கிறான். அவனிடம் ஐந்து வாற்கோதுமை அப்பங்களும் இரண்டு மீன்களும் உள்ளன. ஆனால் இத்தனை பேருக்கு இவை எப்படிப் போதும்?” என்றார்.

இயேசு செய்த இந்த அரும் அடையாளத்தைக் கண்ட மக்கள், “உலகிற்கு வரவிருந்த இறைவாக்கினர் உண்மையில் இவரே” என்றார்கள். அவர்கள் வந்து தம்மைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு போய் அரசராக்கப் போகிறார்கள் என்பதை உணர்ந்து இயேசு மீண்டும் தனியாய் மலைக்குச் சென்றார்.
