This is the child I prayed for: he is made over to the Lord.

1 Samuel 1: 20-22, 24-28 

Hannah conceived and gave birth to a son, and called him Samuel ‘since’ she said ‘I asked the Lord for him.’

  When a year had gone by, the husband Elkanah went up again with all his family to offer the annual sacrifice to the Lord and to fulfil his vow. Hannah, however, did not go up, having said to her husband, ‘Not before the child is weaned. Then I will bring him and present him before the Lord and he shall stay there for ever.’

  When she had weaned him, she took him up with her together with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour and a skin of wine, and she brought him to the temple of the Lord at Shiloh; and the child was with them. They slaughtered the bull and the child’s mother came to Eli. She said, ‘If you please, my lord. As you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood here beside you, praying to the Lord. This is the child I prayed for, and the Lord granted me what I asked him. Now I make him over to the Lord for the whole of his life. He is made over to the Lord.’

இன்று உங்களுக்காக மீட்பர் பிறந்திருக்கிறார்.

✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 2: 1-14

அக்காலத்தில் அகுஸ்து சீசர் தம் பேரரசு முழுவதும் மக்கள் தொகையைக் கணக்கிடுமாறு கட்டளை பிறப்பித்தார். அதன்படி சிரிய நாட்டில் குரேனியு என்பவர் ஆளுநராய் இருந்தபோது முதன்முறையாக மக்கள் தொகை கணக்கிடப்பட்டது. தம் பெயரைப் பதிவு செய்ய அனைவரும் அவரவர் ஊருக்குச் சென்றனர். தாவீதின் வழிமரபினரான யோசேப்பும் தமக்கு மண ஒப்பந்தமான மரியாவோடு, பெயரைப் பதிவு செய்ய, கலிலேயாவிலுள்ள நாசரேத்து ஊரிலிருந்து யூதேயாவிலுள்ள பெத்லகேம் என்ற தாவீதின் ஊருக்குச் சென்றார். மரியா கருவுற்றிருந்தார். அவர்கள் அங்கு இருந்தபொழுது மரியாவுக்குப் பேறுகாலம் வந்தது. மரியா தம் தலைமகனைப் பெற்றெடுத்தார். விடுதியில் அவர்களுக்கு இடம் கிடைக்கவில்லை. எனவே பிள்ளையைத் துணிகளில் பொதிந்து தீவனத் தொட்டியில் கிடத்தினார்.

அப்பொழுது அப்பகுதியில் உள்ள வயல்வெளியில் இடையர்கள் தங்கி இரவெல்லாம் தங்கள் கிடையைக் காவல் காத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். திடீரென்று ஆண்டவருடைய தூதர் அவர்கள்முன் வந்து நின்றபோது ஆண்டவரின் மாட்சி அவர்களைச் சுற்றி ஒளிர்ந்தது; மிகுந்த அச்சம் அவர்களை ஆட்கொண்டது. வானதூதர் அவர்களிடம், “அஞ்சாதீர்கள், இதோ, எல்லா மக்களுக்கும் பெரும் மகிழ்ச்சியூட்டும் நற்செய்தியை உங்களுக்கு அறிவிக்கிறேன். இன்று ஆண்டவராகிய மெசியா என்னும் மீட்பர் உங்களுக்காகத் தாவீதின் ஊரில் பிறந்திருக்கிறார். குழந்தையைத் துணிகளில் சுற்றித் தீவனத் தொட்டியில் கிடத்தியிருப்பதைக் காண்பீர்கள்; இதுவே உங்களுக்கு அடையாளம்” என்றார்.

உடனே விண்ணகத் தூதர் பேரணி அந்தத் தூதருடன் சேர்ந்து, “உன்னதத்தில் கடவுளுக்கு மாட்சி உரித்தாகுக! உலகில் அவருக்கு உகந்தோருக்கு அமைதி உண்டாகுக!” என்று கடவுளைப் புகழ்ந்தது.

மனிதர் அனைவருக்கும் கடவுளின் அருள் வெளிப்பட்டுள்ளது.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் தீத்துக்கு எழுதிய திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 2: 11-14.

மனிதர் அனைவருக்கும் மீட்பராம் கடவுளின் அருள் வெளிப்பட்டுள்ளது. நாம் இறைப்பற்றின்மையையும் உலகு சார்ந்த தீய நாட்டங்களையும் மறுத்து, கட்டுப்பாட்டுடனும் நேர்மையுடனும் இறைப் பற்றுடனும் இம்மையில் வாழ இவ்வருளால் பயிற்சி பெறுகிறோம். மகிழ்ச்சியோடு எதிர்நோக்கியிருப்பது நிறைவேறும் எனக் காத்திருக்கிறோம். நம் பெருமைமிக்க கடவுளும் மீட்பருமாகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் மாட்சி வெளிப்படப்போகிறது. அவர் நம்மை எல்லா நெறிகேடுகளிலிருந்தும் மீட்டு, நற்செயல்களில் ஆர்வமுள்ள தமக்குரிய மக்களாகத் தூய்மைப்படுத்தத் தம்மையே ஒப்படைத்தார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 2 : 1-14.

Caesar Augustus issued a decree for a census of the whole world to be taken. This census – the first – took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria, and everyone went to his own town to be registered. So Joseph set out from the town of Nazareth in Galilee and travelled up to Judaea, to the town of David called Bethlehem, since he was of David’s House and line, in order to be registered together with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While they were there the time came for her to have her child, and she gave birth to a son, her first born. She wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them at the inn.

  In the countryside close by there were shepherds who lived in the fields and took it in turns to watch their flocks during the night. The angel of the Lord appeared to them and the glory of the Lord shone round them. They were terrified, but the angel said, ‘Do not be afraid. Listen, I bring you news of great joy, a joy to be shared by the whole people. Today in the town of David a saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord. And here is a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.’ And suddenly with the angel there was a great throng of the heavenly host, praising God and singing:

‘Glory to God in the highest heaven,

and peace to men who enjoy his favour.’

காரிருளில் நடந்துவந்த மக்கள் பேரொளியைக் கண்டார்கள்; சாவின் நிழல் சூழ்ந்துள்ள நாட்டில் குடியிருப்போர்மேல் சுடர் ஒளி உதித்துள்ளது. ஆண்டவரே! அந்த இனத்தாரைப் பல்கிப் பெருகச் செய்தீர்; அவர்கள் மகிழ்ச்சியை மிகுதிப்படுத்தினீர்; அறுவடை நாளில் மகிழ்ச்சியுறுவது போல் உம் திருமுன் அவர்கள் அகமகிழ்கிறார்கள்; கொள்ளைப் பொருளைப் பங்கிடும்போது அக்களிப்பதுபோல் களிகூர்கிறார்கள். மிதியான் நாட்டுக்குச் செய்தது போல அவர்களுக்குச் சுமையாக இருந்த நுகத்தை நீர் உடைத்தெறிந்தீர். அவர்கள் தோளைப் புண்ணாக்கிய தடியைத் தகர்த்துப் போட்டீர்; அவர்களை ஒடுக்குவோரின் கொடுங்கோலை ஒடித்தெறிந்தீர்.

ஏனெனில், ஒரு குழந்தை நமக்குப் பிறந்துள்ளார்; ஓர் ஆண்மகவு நமக்குத் தரப்பட்டுள்ளார்; ஆட்சிப் பொறுப்பு அவர் தோள்மேல் இருக்கும்; அவர் திருப்பெயரோ ‘வியத்தகு ஆலோசகர், வலிமை மிகு இறைவன், என்றுமுள தந்தை, அமைதியின் அரசர்’ என்று அழைக்கப்படும். அவரது ஆட்சியின் உயர்வுக்கும் அமைதி நிலவும் அவரது அரசின் வளர்ச்சிக்கும் முடிவு இராது; தாவீதின் அரியணையில் அமர்ந்து தாவீதின் அரசை நிலைநாட்டுவார்; இன்றுமுதல் என்றென்றும் நீதியோடும் நேர்மையோடும் ஆட்சிபுரிந்து அதை நிலைபெயராது உறுதிப்படுத்துவார்; படைகளின் ஆண்டவரது பேரார்வம் இதைச் செய்து நிறைவேற்றும்.
