How great is your name, O Lord our God, through all the earth!

When I see the heavens, the work of your hands,

the moon and the stars which you arranged,

what is man that you should keep him in mind,

mortal man that you care for him?

How great is your name, O Lord our God, through all the earth!

Yet you have made him little less than a god;

with glory and honour you crowned him,

gave him power over the works of your hand,

put all things under his feet.

How great is your name, O Lord our God, through all the earth!

All of them, sheep and cattle,

yes, even the savage beasts,

birds of the air, and fish

that make their way through the waters.

Before the earth came into being, Wisdom was born

Proverbs 8:22-31 ©

The Wisdom of God cries aloud:

The Lord created me when his purpose first unfolded,

before the oldest of his works.

From everlasting I was firmly set,

from the beginning, before earth came into being.

The deep was not, when I was born,

there were no springs to gush with water.

Before the mountains were settled,

before the hills, I came to birth;

before he made the earth, the countryside,

or the first grains of the world’s dust.

When he fixed the heavens firm, I was there,

when he drew a ring on the surface of the deep,

when he thickened the clouds above,

when he fixed fast the springs of the deep,

when he assigned the sea its boundaries

– and the waters will not invade the shore –

when he laid down the foundations of the earth,

I was by his side, a master craftsman,

delighting him day after day,

ever at play in his presence,

at play everywhere in his world,

delighting to be with the sons of men.

'விண்ணரசு நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டது' எனப் பறைசாற்றுங்கள்.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடர்களை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “நீங்கள் செல்லும்போது ‘விண்ணரசு நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டது’ எனப் பறைசாற்றுங்கள். நலம் குன்றியவர்களைக் குணமாக்குங்கள்; இறந்தோரை உயிர்பெற்றெழச் செய்யுங்கள்; தொழுநோயாளரை நலமாக்குங்கள்; பேய்களை ஓட்டுங்கள்; கொடையாகப் பெற்றீர்கள்; கொடையாகவே வழங்குங்கள்.

பொன், வெள்ளி, செப்புக் காசு எதையும் உங்கள் இடைக் கச்சைகளில் வைத்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டாம். பயணத்திற்காகப் பையோ, இரண்டு அங்கிகளோ, மிதியடிகளோ, கைத்தடியோ எடுத்துக்கொண்டு போக வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் வேலையாள் தம் உணவுக்கு உரிமை உடையவரே. நீங்கள் எந்த நகருக்கோ ஊருக்கோ சென்றாலும் அங்கே உங்களை ஏற்கத் தகுதியுடையவர் யாரெனக் கேட்டறியுங்கள். அங்கிருந்து புறப்படும் வரை அவரோடு தங்கியிருங்கள்.

அந்த வீட்டுக்குள் செல்லும்பொழுதே, வீட்டாருக்கு வாழ்த்துக் கூறுங்கள். வீட்டார் தகுதி உள்ளவராய் இருந்தால், நீங்கள் வாழ்த்திக் கூறிய அமைதி அவர்கள் மேல் தங்கட்டும்; அவர்கள் தகுதியற்றவர்களாய் இருந்தால் அது உங்களிடமே திரும்பி வரட்டும்.”

ஆண்டவருக்குப் புதியதொரு பாடல் பாடுங்கள்; ஏனெனில், அவர் வியத்தகு செயல்கள் புரிந்துள்ளார். அவருடைய வலக்கரமும் புனிதமிகு புயமும் அவருக்கு வெற்றியை அளித்துள்ளன. - பல்லவி

ஆண்டவர் தம் மீட்பை அறிவித்தார்; பிற இனத்தார் கண் முன்னே தம் நீதியை வெளிப்படுத்தினார்.

பர்னபா தூய ஆவியால் ஆட்கொள்ளப்பட்டு நம்பிக்கை நிறைந்தவராய் பெருந்திரளான மக்களை ஆண்டவரிடம் சேர்த்தார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

பெருந் தொகையான மக்கள் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டு ஆண்டவரிடம் திரும்பினர். இந்தச் செய்தி எருசலேம் திருச்சபையினரின் காதில் விழவே அவர்கள் பர்னபாவை அந்தியோக்கியா வரை சென்று வர அனுப்பி வைத்தார்கள். அவர் அங்குச் சென்றபோது, கடவுளின் அருள்செயலைக் கண்டு மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தார்; மேலும் உறுதியான உள்ளத்தோடு ஆண்டவரைச் சார்ந்திருக்குமாறு அனைவரையும் ஊக்கப்படுத்தினார். அவர் நல்லவர்; தூய ஆவியால் ஆட்கொள்ளப்பட்டு நம்பிக்கை நிறைந்தவராய்ப் பெருந்திரளான மக்களை ஆண்டவரிடம் சேர்த்தார்.

பின்பு சவுலைத் தேடி அவர் தர்சு நகர் சென்றார்; அவரைக் கண்டு, அந்தியோக்கியாவுக்கு அழைத்துவந்தார். அவர்கள் ஓராண்டு முழுவதும் அந்தச் சபையாரோடு கூடவே இருந்து பெருந்திரளான மக்களுக்குக் கற்பித்து வந்தார்கள். அந்தியோக்கியாவில்தான் முதல் முறையாகச் சீடர்கள் கிறிஸ்தவர்கள் என்னும் பெயரைப் பெற்றார்கள்.

அந்தியோக்கியத் திருச்சபையில் பர்னபா, நீகர் எனப்படும் சிமியோன், சிரேன் ஊரானாகிய லூக்கியு, குறுநில மன்னன் ஏரோதுவுடன் வளர்ந்த மனாயீன், சவுல் ஆகியோர் இறைவாக்கினராகவும், போதகராகவும் இருந்தனர்.

அவர்கள் நோன்பிருந்து ஆண்டவரை வழிபடும்போது தூய ஆவியார் அவர்களிடம், “பர்னபாவையும் சவுலையும் ஒரு தனிப்பட்ட பணிக்கென நான் அழைத்திருக்கிறேன். அந்தப் பணிக்காக அவர்களை ஒதுக்கி வையுங்கள்” என்று கூறினார். அவர்கள் நோன்பிருந்து இறைவனிடம் வேண்டினார்கள்; தங்கள் கைகளை அவ்விருவர் மீது வைத்துத் திருப்பணியில் அமர்த்தி அவர்களை அனுப்பி வைத்தார்கள்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew 10: 7-13

Jesus said to his apostles, ‘As you go, proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is close at hand. Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out devils. You received without charge, give without charge. Provide yourselves with no gold or silver, not even with a few coppers for your purses, with no haversack for the journey or spare tunic or footwear or a staff, for the workman deserves his keep.

‘Whatever town or village you go into, ask for someone trustworthy and stay with him until you leave. As you enter his house, salute it, and if the house deserves it, let your peace descend upon it; if it does not, let your peace come back to you.’
