தலையாகிய கிறிஸ்துவைப் போன்று எல்லாவற்றிலும் நாம் வளர வேண்டும்.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் எபேசியருக்கு எழுதிய திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 4: 7-16

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

கிறிஸ்து கொடுக்க விரும்பும் அளவுக்கேற்ப நம் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் அருள் அளிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஆகையால்தான், ‘அவர் உயரே ஏறிச் சென்றார்; அப்போது, சிறைப்பட்ட கைதிகளை இழுத்துச் சென்றார்; மனிதருக்குப் பரிசுகளை வழங்கினார்’ என்று மறைநூல் கூறுகிறது.

‘ஏறிச் சென்றார்’ என்பதனால் அதன் முன்பு மண்ணுலகின் கீழான பகுதிகளுக்கு அவர் இறங்கினார் என்று விளங்குகிறது அல்லவா? கீழே இறங்கியவர்தான் எங்கும் நிறைந்திருக்கும்படி எல்லா வானுலகங்களுக்கும் மேலாக ஏறிச் சென்றவர்.

அவரே சிலரைத் திருத்தூதராகவும், சிலரை இறைவாக்கினராகவும், வேறு சிலரை நற்செய்தியாளர்களாகவும், ஆயர்களாகவும், போதகர்களாகவும் ஏற்படுத்தினார். திருத்தொண்டாற்ற இறைமக்களை ஆயத்தப்படுத்தவும், கிறிஸ்துவின் உடலைக் கட்டி எழுப்பவும் இவர்களை அவர் ஏற்படுத்தினார். அதனால் நாம் எல்லாரும் இறைமகனைப்பற்றிய அறிவிலும் நம்பிக்கையிலும் ஒருமைப்பாட்டை அடைவோம். கிறிஸ்துவிடம் காணப்பட்ட நிறைவைப் பெறுமளவுக்கு நாம் முதிர்ச்சியடைவோம்.

ஆகவே இனி நாம் குழந்தைகளைப்போல் இருக்கக் கூடாது. மனிதருடைய தந்திரங்களையும் சூழ்ச்சிகளையும் தவறுக்கு வழிநடத்தும் ஏமாற்று வழிகளையும் நம்பி, அவர்களுடைய போதனைகள் என்னும் காற்றால் அடித்துச் செல்லப்பட்டு அங்குமிங்கும் அலைக்கழிக்கப்படக் கூடாது. மாறாக, அன்பின் அடிப்படையில் உண்மை பேசி, தலையாகிய கிறிஸ்துவைப் போன்று எல்லாவற்றிலும் நாம் வளர வேண்டும். அவரால்தான் முழு உடலும் இசைவாய்ப் பொருந்தித் தன்னிடமுள்ள தசைநார்களால் இறுக்கிப் பிணைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. ஒவ்வோர் உறுப்பும் தனக்கே குறிக்கப்பட்ட பணியைச் செய்வதால் உடல் வளர்ச்சி பெற்று, அன்பால் கட்டமைப்புப் பெற்று வளர்ச்சியடைகிறது.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 13:1-9 

Some people arrived and told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with that of their sacrifices. At this he said to them, ‘Do you suppose these Galileans who suffered like that were greater sinners than any other Galileans? They were not, I tell you. No; but unless you repent you will all perish as they did. Or those eighteen on whom the tower at Siloam fell and killed them? Do you suppose that they were more guilty than all the other people living in Jerusalem? They were not, I tell you. No; but unless you repent you will all perish as they did.’

  He told this parable: ‘A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came looking for fruit on it but found none. He said to the man who looked after the vineyard, “Look here, for three years now I have been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and finding none. Cut it down: why should it be taking up the ground?” “Sir,” the man replied “leave it one more year and give me time to dig round it and manure it: it may bear fruit next year; if not, then you can cut it down.”’

By grace, we shall not be children any longer

A reading from the letter of St.Paul to the Ephesians 4:7-16 

Each one of us has been given his own share of grace, given as Christ allotted it. It was said that he would:

When he ascended to the height, he captured prisoners,

he gave gifts to men.

When it says, ‘he ascended’, what can it mean if not that he descended right down to the lower regions of the earth? The one who rose higher than all the heavens to fill all things is none other than the one who descended. And to some, his gift was that they should be apostles; to some, prophets; to some, evangelists; to some, pastors and teachers; so that the saints together make a unity in the work of service, building up the body of Christ. In this way we are all to come to unity in our faith and in our knowledge of the Son of God, until we become the perfect Man, fully mature with the fullness of Christ himself.

  Then we shall not be children any longer, or tossed one way and another and carried along by every wind of doctrine, at the mercy of all the tricks men play and their cleverness in practising deceit. If we live by the truth and in love, we shall grow in all ways into Christ, who is the head by whom the whole body is fitted and joined together, every joint adding its own strength, for each separate part to work according to its function. So the body grows until it has built itself up, in love.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 12:54-59

Jesus said to the crowds: ‘When you see a cloud looming up in the west you say at once that rain is coming, and so it does. And when the wind is from the south you say it will be hot, and it is. Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the face of the earth and the sky. How is it you do not know how to interpret these times?

‘Why not judge for yourselves what is right? For example: when you go to court with your opponent, try to settle with him on the way, or he may drag you before the judge and the judge hand you over to the bailiff and the bailiff have you thrown into prison. I tell you, you will not get out till you have paid the very last penny.’

A reading from the letter of St.Paul to the Ephesians 4:1-6

I, the prisoner in the Lord, implore you to lead a life worthy of your vocation. Bear with one another charitably, in complete selflessness, gentleness and patience. Do all you can to preserve the unity of the Spirit by the peace that binds you together. There is one Body, one Spirit, just as you were all called into one and the same hope when you were called. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God who is Father of all, over all, through all and within all.
