இடையர்கள் பெத்லகேமுக்கு விரைந்து சென்று, மரியாவையும் யோசேப்பையும் தீவனத் தொட்டியில் கிடத்தியிருந்த குழந்தையையும் கண்டார்கள். பின்பு அந்தக் குழந்தையைப் பற்றித் தங்களுக்குச் சொல்லப்பட்ட செய்தியைத் தெரிவித்தார்கள். அதைக் கேட்ட யாவரும், இடையர்கள் தங்களுக்குச் சொன்னவற்றைக் குறித்து வியப்படைந்தனர். ஆனால் மரியா இந்நிகழ்ச்சிகளையெல்லாம் தம் உள்ளத்தில் இருத்திச் சிந்தித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார். இடையர்கள் தாங்கள் கேட்டவை, கண்டவை அனைத்தையும் குறித்துக் கடவுளைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்து பாடிக்கொண்டே திரும்பிச் சென்றார்கள். அவர்களுக்குச் சொல்லப்பட்டவாறு எல்லாம் நிகழ்ந்திருந்தது.

குழந்தைக்கு விருத்தசேதனம் செய்யவேண்டிய எட்டாம் நாள் வந்தது. தாயின் வயிற்றில் உருவாகுமுன்பே வானதூதர் சொல்லியிருந்தவாறு அதற்கு இயேசு என்று பெயரிட்டார்கள்.

தொடக்கத்தில் வாக்கு இருந்தது; அவ்வாக்கு கடவுளோடு இருந்தது; அவ்வாக்கு கடவுளாயும் இருந்தது. வாக்கு என்னும் அவரே தொடக்கத்தில் கடவுளோடு இருந்தார். அனைத்தும் அவரால் உண்டாயின; உண்டானது எதுவும் அவரால் அன்றி உண்டாகவில்லை. அவரிடம் வாழ்வு இருந்தது; அவ்வாழ்வு மனிதருக்கு ஒளியாய் இருந்தது. அந்த ஒளி இருளில் ஒளிர்ந்தது; இருள் அதன்மேல் வெற்றி கொள்ளவில்லை.

இவரது நிறைவிலிருந்து நாம் யாவரும் நிறைவாக அருள் பெற்றுள்ளோம். திருச்சட்டம் மோசே வழியாகக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது; அருளும் உண்மையும் இயேசு கிறிஸ்து வழியாய் வெளிப்பட்டன. கடவுளை யாரும் என்றுமே கண்டதில்லை; தந்தையின் நெஞ்சத்திற்கு நெருக்கமானவரும் கடவுள்தன்மை கொண்டவருமான ஒரே மகனே அவரை வெளிப்படுத்தியுள்ளார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 1:1-18 

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. ஆண்டவருடைய திருச்சட்டப்படி எல்லாவற்றையும் செய்து முடித்த பின்பு அவர்கள் கலிலேயாவிலுள்ள தங்கள் ஊராகிய நாசரேத்துக்குத் திரும்பிச் சென்றார்கள். குழந்தையும் வளர்ந்து வலிமை பெற்று ஞானத்தால் நிறைந்து கடவுளுக்கு உகந்ததாய் இருந்தது.

She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. And when they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name’s sake. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world— the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life— is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides for ever.

மோசேயின் சட்டப்படி தூய்மைச் சடங்கை நிறைவேற்றவேண்டிய நாள் வந்தபோது குழந்தையை ஆண்டவருக்கு அர்ப்பணிக்க அவர்கள் எருசலேமுக்குக் கொண்டு சென்றார்கள். ஏனெனில், “ஆண் தலைப்பேறு அனைத்தும் ஆண்டவருக்கு அர்ப்பணிக்கப்படும்” என்று அவருடைய திருச்சட்டத்தில் எழுதியுள்ளது. அச்சட்டத்தில் கூறியுள்ளவாறு இரு மாடப்புறாக்கள் அல்லது இரு புறாக்குஞ்சுகளை அவர்கள் பலியாகக் கொடுக்க வேண்டியிருந்தது.

அப்போது எருசலேமில் சிமியோன் என்னும் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். அவர் நேர்மையானவர்; இறைப்பற்றுக் கொண்டவர்; இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு வாக்களிக்கப்பட்ட ஆறுதலை எதிர்பார்த்திருந்தவர்; தூய ஆவியை அவர் பெற்றிருந்தார். “ஆண்டவருடைய மெசியாவைக் காணுமுன் அவர் சாகப்போவதில்லை” என்று தூய ஆவியால் உணர்த்தப்பட்டிருந்தார்.

அந்த ஆவியின் தூண்டுதலால் அவர் கோவிலுக்கு வந்திருந்தார். திருச்சட்ட வழக்கத்திற்கு ஏற்பச் செய்ய வேண்டியதைக் குழந்தை இயேசுவுக்குச் செய்து முடிக்கப் பெற்றோர் அதனை உள்ளே கொண்டுவந்தபோது. சிமியோன் குழந்தையைக் கையில் ஏந்திக் கடவுளைப் போற்றி, “ஆண்டவரே, உமது சொற்படி உம் அடியான் என்னை இப்போது அமைதியுடன் போகச் செய்கிறீர். ஏனெனில், மக்கள் அனைவரும் காணுமாறு, நீர் ஏற்பாடு செய்துள்ள உமது மீட்பை என் கண்கள் கண்டுகொண்டன. இம்மீட்பே பிற இனத்தாருக்கு வெளிப்பாடு அருளும் ஒளி; இதுவே உம் மக்களாகிய இஸ்ரயேலுக்குப் பெருமை” என்றார்.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 2:22-35 

When the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, the parents of Jesus brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”) and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtle-doves, or two young pigeons”. Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.” And his father and his mother marvelled at what was said about him. A reading from the first letter of  St.John 2:3-11 

Beloved: By this we know that we have come to know Jesus Christ, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.

Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

ஞானிகள் திரும்பிச் சென்றபின் ஆண்டவருடைய தூதர் யோசேப்புக்குக் கனவில் தோன்றி, “நீர் எழுந்து குழந்தையையும் அதன் தாயையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு எகிப்துக்குத் தப்பி ஓடிச் செல்லும். நான் உமக்குச் சொல்லும்வரை அங்கேயே இரும். ஏனெனில், குழந்தையை ஏரோது கொல்வதற்காகத் தேடப்போகிறான்'' என்றார்.

யோசேப்பு எழுந்து, குழந்தையையும் அதன் தாயையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு, இரவிலேயே எகிப்துக்குப் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றார்; ஏரோது இறக்கும் வரை அங்கேயே இருந்தார். இவ்வாறு, “எகிப்திலிருந்து என் மகனை அழைத்து வந்தேன்'' என்று இறைவாக்கினர் வாயிலாக ஆண்டவர் உரைத்தது நிறைவேறியது.

ஏரோது காலமானதும், ஆண்டவருடைய தூதர் எகிப்தில் யோசேப்புக்குக் கனவில் தோன்றி, “நீர் எழுந்து குழந்தையையும் அதன் தாயையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு இஸ்ரயேல் நாட்டுக்குச் செல்லும். ஏனெனில் குழந்தையின் உயிரைப் பறிக்கத் தேடியவர்கள் இறந்து போனார்கள்'' என்றார். எனவே, யோசேப்பு எழுந்து குழந்தையையும் அதன் தாயையும் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு இஸ்ரயேல் நாட்டுக்கு வந்து சேர்ந்தார்.

ஆனால் யூதேயாவில் அர்க்கெலா தன் தந்தைக்குப்பின் அரசாளுவதாகக் கேள்விப்பட்டு, அங்கே போக அவர் அஞ்சினார்; கனவில் எச்சரிக்கப்பட்டுக் கலிலேயப் பகுதிகளுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றார்.

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே, நீங்கள் கடவுளால் தேர்ந்துகொள்ளப்பட்டவர்கள், அவரது அன்பிற்குரிய இறைமக்கள்.

எனவே அதற்கு இசைய பரிவு, இரக்கம், நல்லெண்ணம், மனத்தாழ்மை, கனிவு, பொறுமை ஆகிய பண்புகளால் உங்களை அணிசெய்யுங்கள். ஒருவரை ஒருவர் பொறுத்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள். ஒருவரைப்பற்றி ஒருவருக்கு ஏதாவது முறையீடு இருந்தால் மன்னியுங்கள்.

ஆண்டவர் உங்களை மன்னித்ததுபோல நீங்களும் மன்னிக்க வேண்டும். இவை அனைத்துக்கும் மேலாக, அன்பையே கொண்டிருங்கள். அதுவே இவை அனைத்தையும் பிணைத்து நிறைவுபெறச் செய்யும்.

கிறிஸ்து அருளும் அமைதி உங்கள் உள்ளங்களை நெறிப்படுத்துவதாக! இவ்வமைதிக்கென்றே நீங்கள் ஒரே உடலின் உறுப்புகளாக இருக்க அழைக்கப்பட்டீர்கள். நன்றியுள்ளவர்களாய் இருங்கள். கிறிஸ்துவைப்பற்றிய நற்செய்தி உங்களுக்குள் நிறைவாகக் குடிகொள்வதாக! முழு ஞானத்தோடு ஒருவருக்கு ஒருவர் கற்பித்து அறிவுரை கூறுங்கள். திருப்பாடல்களையும் புகழ்ப்பாக்களையும் ஆவிக்குரிய பாடல்களையும் நன்றியோடு உளமாரப் பாடிக் கடவுளைப் போற்றுங்கள். எதைச் சொன்னாலும் எதைச் செய்தாலும் அனைத்தையும் ஆண்டவர் இயேசுவின் பெயரால் செய்து அவர் வழியாய்த் தந்தையாம் கடவுளுக்கு நன்றி செலுத்துங்கள்.

திருமணமான பெண்களே, உங்கள் கணவருக்கு நீங்கள் பணிந்திருங்கள். ஆண்டவரைச் சார்ந்து வாழ்வோருக்கு இதுவே தகும். திருமணமான ஆண்களே, உங்கள் மனைவியரிடம் அன்பு செலுத்துங்கள். அவர்களைக் கொடுமைப்படுத்தாதீர்கள்.

பிள்ளைகளே, உங்கள் பெற்றோருக்கு முற்றிலும் கீழ்ப்படியுங்கள். ஆண்டவரைச் சார்ந்தவர்களுக்கு இதுவே தகும். பெற்றோர்களே, உங்கள் பிள்ளைகளுக்கு எரிச்சல் மூட்டாதீர்கள். அப்படிச் செய்தால் அவர்கள் மனந்தளர்ந்து போவார்கள்.

When the Magi had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there until I tell you, for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.” And he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod.

This was to fulfil what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.” But when Herod died, behold,

Brethren: Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. A Reading from the Book of Ecclesiasticus 3: 2-6,12-14 

The Lord honoured the father above the children, and he confirmed the judgment of the mother over her sons. Whoever honours his father will be gladdened by his own children, and when he prays he will be heard. இதைக் கேட்ட பேதுருவும் மற்றச் சீடரும் கல்லறைக்குப் புறப்பட்டனர். இருவரும் ஒருமித்து ஓடினர். மற்றச் சீடர் பேதுருவை விட விரைவாக ஓடி முதலில் கல்லறையை அடைந்தார். அவர் குனிந்து பார்த்தபோது துணிகள் கிடப்பதைக் கண்டார்; ஆனால் உள்ளே நுழையவில்லை. அவருக்குப் பின்னாலேயே சீமோன் பேதுருவும் வந்தார். நேரே அவர் கல்லறைக்குள் நுழைந்தார். அங்குத் துணிகளையும், இயேசுவின் தலையை மூடியிருந்த துண்டையும் கண்டார். அத்துண்டு மற்ற துணிகளோடு இல்லாமல் ஓரிடத்தில் தனியாகச் சுருட்டி வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது.

பின்னர், கல்லறைக்கு முதலில் வந்து சேர்ந்த மற்றச் சீடரும் உள்ளே சென்றார், கண்டார், நம்பினார்.

On the first day of the week: Mary Magdalene ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going towards the tomb. Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. அந்நாள்களில்

ஸ்தேவான் அருளும் வல்லமையும் நிறைந்தவராய் மக்களிடையே பெரும் அருஞ்செயல்களையும் அரும் அடையாளங்களையும் செய்து வந்தார். அப்பொழுது உரிமையடைந்தோர் எனப்படுவோரின் தொழுகைக் கூடத்தைச் சேர்ந்த சிலரும் சிரேன், அலக்சாந்திரியா நகரினரும் சிலிசியா, ஆசியா மாநிலத்தவரும் ஸ்தேவானோடு வாதாடத் தொடங்கினர். ஆனால் அவரது ஞானத்தையும் தூய ஆவி வாயிலாக அவர் பேசிய வார்த்தைகளையும் எதிர்த்து நிற்க அவர்களால் இயலவில்லை.

இவற்றைக் கேட்டவர்கள் உள்ளம் கொதித்தெழுந்து, அவரைப் பார்த்துப் பற்களை நறநறவெனக் கடித்தார்கள்.

அவரோ தூய ஆவியின் வல்லமையை நிறைவாய்ப் பெற்று, வானத்தை உற்றுநோக்கினார். அப்போது கடவுளின் மாட்சியையும் அவர் வலப்பக்கத்தில் இயேசு நிற்பதையும் கண்டு, “இதோ, வானம் திறந்து இருப்பதையும், மானிடமகன் கடவுளது வலப்பக்கத்தில் நிற்பதையும் காண்கிறேன்” என்று கூறினார்.

ஆனால் அவர்கள் தங்கள் செவிகளை அடைத்துக்கொண்டு, பெருங் கூச்சலிட்டு, ஒருமிக்க அவர்மேல் பாய்ந்தார்கள். நகரத்திற்கு வெளியே இழுத்துக் கொண்டுபோய் அவர்மேல் கல் எறிந்தார்கள். சாட்சிகள் தங்கள் மேலுடைகளைச் சவுல் எனும் இளைஞரிடம் ஒப்படைத்தார்கள்.

அக்காலத்தில் அகுஸ்து சீசர் தம் பேரரசு முழுவதும் மக்கள் தொகையைக் கணக்கிடுமாறு கட்டளை பிறப்பித்தார். அதன்படி சிரிய நாட்டில் குரேனியு என்பவர் ஆளுநராய் இருந்தபோது முதன்முறையாக மக்கள் தொகை கணக்கிடப்பட்டது. தம் பெயரைப் பதிவு செய்ய அனைவரும் அவரவர் ஊருக்குச் சென்றனர். தாவீதின் வழிமரபினரான யோசேப்பும் தமக்கு மண ஒப்பந்தமான மரியாவோடு, பெயரைப் பதிவு செய்ய, கலிலேயாவிலுள்ள நாசரேத்து ஊரிலிருந்து யூதேயாவிலுள்ள பெத்லகேம் என்ற தாவீதின் ஊருக்குச் சென்றார். மரியா கருவுற்றிருந்தார். அவர்கள் அங்கு இருந்தபொழுது மரியாவுக்குப் பேறுகாலம் வந்தது. மரியா தம் தலைமகனைப் பெற்றெடுத்தார். விடுதியில் அவர்களுக்கு இடம் கிடைக்கவில்லை. எனவே பிள்ளையைத் துணிகளில் பொதிந்து தீவனத் தொட்டியில் கிடத்தினார்.

அப்பொழுது அப்பகுதியில் உள்ள வயல்வெளியில் இடையர்கள் தங்கி இரவெல்லாம் தங்கள் கிடையைக் காவல் காத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். திடீரென்று ஆண்டவருடைய தூதர் அவர்கள்முன் வந்து நின்றபோது ஆண்டவரின் மாட்சி அவர்களைச் சுற்றி ஒளிர்ந்தது; மிகுந்த அச்சம் அவர்களை ஆட்கொண்டது. வானதூதர் அவர்களிடம், “அஞ்சாதீர்கள், இதோ, எல்லா மக்களுக்கும் பெரும் மகிழ்ச்சியூட்டும் நற்செய்தியை உங்களுக்கு அறிவிக்கிறேன். இன்று ஆண்டவராகிய மெசியா என்னும் மீட்பர் உங்களுக்காகத் தாவீதின் ஊரில் பிறந்திருக்கிறார். குழந்தையைத் துணிகளில் சுற்றித் தீவனத் தொட்டியில் கிடத்தியிருப்பதைக் காண்பீர்கள்; இதுவே உங்களுக்கு அடையாளம்” என்றார்.

உடனே விண்ணகத் தூதர் பேரணி அந்தத் தூதருடன் சேர்ந்து, “உன்னதத்தில் கடவுளுக்கு மாட்சி உரித்தாகுக! உலகில் அவருக்கு உகந்தோருக்கு அமைதி உண்டாகுக!” என்று கடவுளைப் புகழ்ந்தது.

குழந்தாய், நீ உன்னத கடவுளின் இறைவாக்கினர் எனப்படுவாய்; ஏனெனில் பாவ மன்னிப்பால் வரும் மீட்பை அவர்தம் மக்களுக்கு அறிவித்து ஆண்டவருக்கான வழியைச் செம்மைப்படுத்த அவர் முன்னே செல்வாய். இருளிலும் இறப்பின் பிடியிலும் இருப்போர்க்கு ஒளிதரவும், நம்முடைய கால்களை அமைதி வழியில் நடக்கச் செய்யவும் நம் கடவுளின் பரிவுள்ளத்தாலும் இரக்கத்தாலும் விண்ணிலிருந்து விடியல் நம்மைத் தேடிவருகிறது.”

பல்லவி: ஆண்டவரின் பேரன்பை நான் என்றும் பாடுவேன்.

ஆண்டவரின் பேரன்பைப்பற்றி நான் என்றும் பாடுவேன்; நீர் உண்மையுள்ளவர் எனத் தலைமுறைதோறும் என் நாவால் அறிவிப்பேன்.

உமது பேரன்பு என்றென்றும் நிலைத்துள்ளது என்று அறிவிப்பேன்; உமது உண்மை வானைப்போல் உறுதியானது. - பல்லவி

நீர் உரைத்தது: ‛நான் தேர்ந்துகொண்டவனோடு உடன்படிக்கை செய்துகொண்டேன்; என் ஊழியன் தாவீதுக்கு ஆணையிட்டு நான் கூறியது:

தாவீதின் அரசு ஆண்டவர்முன் என்றென்றும் உறுதியாக இருக்கும்.

சாமுவேல் இரண்டாம் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 7: 1-5, 8b-12, 14-16

தாவீது அரசர் தம் அரண்மனையில் குடியேறியபின், சுற்றியிருந்த எல்லா எதிரிகளின் தொல்லையினின்றும் ஆண்டவர் அவருக்கு ஓய்வு அளித்தார். அப்போது இறைவாக்கினர் நாத்தானைத் தாவீது அழைத்து, “பாரும், நான் கேதுரு மரங்களாலான அரண்மனையில் வாழ்கிறேன். கடவுளின் பேழையோ கூடாரத்தில் குடியிருக்கிறது” என்று கூறினார்.

அதற்கு நாத்தான், நீர் விரும்பியது அனைத்தையும் செய்துவிடும்; ஏனெனில் ஆண்டவர் உம்மோடு இருக்கிறார்” என்று அரசரிடம் சொன்னார். அன்று இரவே ஆண்டவரின் வார்த்தை நாத்தானுக்கு அருளப்பட்டது: “நீ சென்று, என் ஊழியன் தாவீதிடம் ஆண்டவர் இவ்வாறு கூறுவதாகச் சொல்:

நான் தங்குவதற்காக எனக்கு ஒரு கோவில் கட்டப்போகிறாயா? என் மக்கள் இஸ்ரயேலின் தலைவனாக விளங்க புல்வெளியில் ஆடுமேய்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்த உன்னை நான் அழைத்தேன். நீ சென்றவிடமெல்லாம் நான் உன்னோடு இருந்தேன்; உன் கண்முன் உன் எதிரிகள் அனைவரையும் அழித்தேன்; மேலும் உலகில் வாழும் பெரும் மனிதர்போல் நீ புகழுறச் செய்தேன். எனது மக்களாகிய இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு ஓர் இடத்தை அளிப்பேன்; அவர்கள் அந்த இடத்திலேயே நிலைத்துவாழச் செய்வேன். என் மக்களாகிய இஸ்ரயேல்மீது நீதித் தலைவர்களை ஏற்படுத்திய நாள்களாகிய தொடக்க காலத்தில் தீயவர்களால் அவர்கள் ஒடுக்கப்பட்டதுபோல இனியும் அவர்கள் அலைக்கழிக்கப்பட மாட்டார்கள். அனைவரின் தொல்லைகளினின்றும் உனக்கு ஓய்வு அளிப்பேன். மேலும், ஆண்டவர்தாமே உன் வீட்டைக் கட்டப்போவதாக அவர் உனக்கு அறிவிக்கிறார்.

உன் வாழ்நாள்கள் நிறைவுபெற்று நீ உன் மூதாதையரோடு துயில்கொள்ளும்போது, உனக்குப் பிறக்கும் உன் வழித்தோன்றலை உனக்குப்பின் நான் உயர்த்தி, அவனது அரசை நான் நிலைநாட்டுவேன். என் முன்பாக உனது குடும்பமும் உனது அரசும் என்றும் உறுதியாயிருக்கும்! உனது அரியணை என்றுமே நிலைத்திருக்கும்!”

எலிசபெத்துக்குப் பேறுகாலம் நெருங்கியது. அவர் ஒரு மகனைப் பெற்றெடுத்தார். ஆண்டவர் அவருக்குப் பெரிதும் இரக்கம் காட்டினார் என்பதைக் கேள்விப்பட்டுச் சுற்றி வாழ்ந்தோரும் உறவினரும் அவரோடு சேர்ந்து மகிழ்ந்தனர். எட்டாம் நாளில் அவர்கள் குழந்தைக்கு விருத்தசேதனம் செய்ய வந்தார்கள்; செக்கரியா என்ற அதன் தந்தையின் பெயரையே அதற்குச் சூட்ட இருந்தார்கள். ஆனால் அதன் தாய் அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, “வேண்டாம், அதற்கு யோவான் எனப் பெயரிட வேண்டும்” என்றார். அவர்கள் அவரிடம், “உம் உறவினருள் இப்பெயர் கொண்டவர் எவரும் இல்லையே” என்று சொல்லி, “குழந்தைக்கு என்ன பெயரிடலாம்? உம் விருப்பம் என்ன?” என்று தந்தையை நோக்கிச் சைகை காட்டிக் கேட்டார்கள். அதற்கு அவர் எழுதுபலகை ஒன்றைக் கேட்டு வாங்கி, “இக்குழந்தையின் பெயர் யோவான்” என்று எழுதினார். எல்லாரும் வியப்படைந்தனர். அப்பொழுதே அவரது வாய் திறந்தது; நா கட்டவிழ்ந்தது; அவர் கடவுளைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்ந்தார். சுற்றி வாழ்ந்தோர் அனைவரும் இதைப்பற்றிக் கேள்விப்பட்டு அஞ்சினர். இச்செய்தி யூதேய மலை நாடெங்கும் பரவியது. கேள்விப்பட்டவர்கள் யாவரும் இச்செய்தியைத் தங்கள் உள்ளங்களில் இருத்தி, “இக்குழந்தை எப்படிப்பட்டதாக இருக்குமோ?” என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டார்கள். ஏனெனில் அக்குழந்தை ஆண்டவருடைய கைவன்மையைப் பெற்றிருந்தது.
