ஆளுநர்களிடமும் அரசர்களிடமும் யூதர்கள் முன்னும் பிற இனத்தவர் முன்னும் சான்று பகர்வீர்கள்.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் திருத்தூதர்களுக்குக் கூறியது: “எச்சரிக்கையாக இருங்கள். ஏனெனில் மனிதர்கள் உங்களை யூதச் சங்கங்களிடம் ஒப்புவிப்பார்கள். தங்கள் தொழுகைக் கூடங்களில் உங்களைச் சாட்டையால் அடிப்பார்கள். என் பொருட்டு ஆளுநர்களிடமும் அரசர்களிடமும் உங்களை இழுத்துச் செல்வார்கள். இவ்வாறு யூதர்கள் முன்னும் பிற இனத்தவர் முன்னும் சான்று பகர்வீர்கள்.

இப்படி அவர்கள் உங்களை ஒப்புவிக்கும்பொழுது, ‘என்ன பேசுவது, எப்படிப் பேசுவது’ என நீங்கள் கவலைப்பட வேண்டாம். நீங்கள் என்ன பேச வேண்டும் என்பது அந்நேரத்தில் உங்களுக்கு அருளப்படும்.

ஏனெனில் பேசுபவர் நீங்கள் அல்ல. மாறாக, உங்கள் தந்தையின் ஆவியாரே உங்கள் வழியாய்ப் பேசுவார். சகோதரர் சகோதரிகள் தம் உடன் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளையும், தந்தையர் பிள்ளைகளையும் கொல்வதற்கென ஒப்புவிப்பார்கள். பிள்ளைகள் பெற்றோர்க்கு எதிராக எழுந்து அவர்களைக் கொல்வார்கள். என் பெயரின் பொருட்டு உங்களை எல்லாரும் வெறுப்பர். இறுதி வரை மன உறுதியுடன் இருப்போரே மீட்கப்படுவர்.”

இதோ, வானம் திறந்திருப்பதைக் காண்கிறேன்.

அந்நாள்களில்

ஸ்தேவான் அருளும் வல்லமையும் நிறைந்தவராய் மக்களிடையே பெரும் அருஞ்செயல்களையும் அரும் அடையாளங்களையும் செய்து வந்தார். அப்பொழுது உரிமையடைந்தோர் எனப்படுவோரின் தொழுகைக் கூடத்தைச் சேர்ந்த சிலரும் சிரேன், அலக்சாந்திரியா நகரினரும் சிலிசியா, ஆசியா மாநிலத்தவரும் ஸ்தேவானோடு வாதாடத் தொடங்கினர். ஆனால் அவரது ஞானத்தையும் தூய ஆவி வாயிலாக அவர் பேசிய வார்த்தைகளையும் எதிர்த்து நிற்க அவர்களால் இயலவில்லை.

இவற்றைக் கேட்டவர்கள் உள்ளம் கொதித்தெழுந்து, அவரைப் பார்த்துப் பற்களை நறநறவெனக் கடித்தார்கள்.

அவரோ தூய ஆவியின் வல்லமையை நிறைவாய்ப் பெற்று, வானத்தை உற்றுநோக்கினார். அப்போது கடவுளின் மாட்சியையும் அவர் வலப்பக்கத்தில் இயேசு நிற்பதையும் கண்டு, “இதோ, வானம் திறந்து இருப்பதையும், மானிடமகன் கடவுளது வலப்பக்கத்தில் நிற்பதையும் காண்கிறேன்” என்று கூறினார்.

ஆனால் அவர்கள் தங்கள் செவிகளை அடைத்துக்கொண்டு, பெருங் கூச்சலிட்டு, ஒருமிக்க அவர்மேல் பாய்ந்தார்கள். நகரத்திற்கு வெளியே இழுத்துக் கொண்டுபோய் அவர்மேல் கல் எறிந்தார்கள். சாட்சிகள் தங்கள் மேலுடைகளைச் சவுல் எனும் இளைஞரிடம் ஒப்படைத்தார்கள்.

அவர்கள் ஸ்தேவான் மீது கல் எறிந்தபோது அவர், “ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசுவே, எனது ஆவியை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும்” என்று வேண்டிக் கொண்டார். பின்பு முழந்தாள்படியிட்டு உரத்த குரலில், “ஆண்டவரே, இந்தப் பாவத்தை இவர்கள் மேல் சுமத்தாதேயும்” என்று சொல்லி உயிர்விட்டார்.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 10:17-22.

At that time: Jesus said to his apostles, “Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to councils and flog you in their synagogues, and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say; for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death;

and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.”

The martyrdom of Stephen

A reading from the Acts of Apostles 6:8-10,7:54-59 

In those days: Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people. Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called), and of the Cyrenians, and of the Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and Asia, rose up and disputed with Stephen. But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he was speaking. Now when they heard these things they were enraged, and they ground their teeth at him. But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together at him. Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him. And the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. And as they were stoning Stephen, he called out, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.”
