எருசலேமின் மீட்புக்காகக் காத்திருந்த எல்லாரிடமும் அன்னா குழந்தையைப்பற்றிப் பேசினார்.

ஆசேர் குலத்தைச் சேர்ந்த பானுவேலின் மகளாகிய அன்னா என்னும் இறைவாக்கினர் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். அவர் வயது முதிர்ந்தவர்; மணமாகி ஏழு ஆண்டுகள் கணவரோடு வாழ்ந்தபின் கைம்பெண் ஆனவர்; அவருக்கு வயது எண்பத்து நான்கு. அவர் கோவிலைவிட்டு நீங்காமல் நோன்பிருந்து மன்றாடி அல்லும் பகலும் திருப்பணி செய்துவந்தார். அவரும் அந்நேரத்தில் அங்கு வந்து கடவுளைப் புகழ்ந்து எருசலேமின் மீட்புக்காகக் காத்திருந்த எல்லாரிடமும் அக்குழந்தையைப் பற்றிப் பேசினார்.

ஆண்டவருடைய திருச்சட்டப்படி எல்லாவற்றையும் செய்து முடித்த பின்பு அவர்கள் கலிலேயாவிலுள்ள தங்கள் ஊராகிய நாசரேத்துக்குத் திரும்பிச் சென்றார்கள். குழந்தையும் வளர்ந்து வலிமை பெற்று ஞானத்தால் நிறைந்து கடவுளுக்கு உகந்ததாய் இருந்தது.

At that time: There was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. And coming up at that very hour she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem. And when they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favour of God was upon him.

A reading from the first letter of St.John 2:12-17 

I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name’s sake. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world— the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life— is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides for ever.
