பிற இனத்தார்க்கு வெளிப்பாடு அருளும் ஒளி.

✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய தூய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 2: 22-35

மோசேயின் சட்டப்படி தூய்மைச் சடங்கை நிறைவேற்றவேண்டிய நாள் வந்தபோது குழந்தையை ஆண்டவருக்கு அர்ப்பணிக்க அவர்கள் எருசலேமுக்குக் கொண்டு சென்றார்கள். ஏனெனில், “ஆண் தலைப்பேறு அனைத்தும் ஆண்டவருக்கு அர்ப்பணிக்கப்படும்” என்று அவருடைய திருச்சட்டத்தில் எழுதியுள்ளது. அச்சட்டத்தில் கூறியுள்ளவாறு இரு மாடப்புறாக்கள் அல்லது இரு புறாக்குஞ்சுகளை அவர்கள் பலியாகக் கொடுக்க வேண்டியிருந்தது.

அப்போது எருசலேமில் சிமியோன் என்னும் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். அவர் நேர்மையானவர்; இறைப்பற்றுக் கொண்டவர்; இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு வாக்களிக்கப்பட்ட ஆறுதலை எதிர்பார்த்திருந்தவர்; தூய ஆவியை அவர் பெற்றிருந்தார். “ஆண்டவருடைய மெசியாவைக் காணுமுன் அவர் சாகப்போவதில்லை” என்று தூய ஆவியால் உணர்த்தப்பட்டிருந்தார்.

அந்த ஆவியின் தூண்டுதலால் அவர் கோவிலுக்கு வந்திருந்தார். திருச்சட்ட வழக்கத்திற்கு ஏற்பச் செய்ய வேண்டியதைக் குழந்தை இயேசுவுக்குச் செய்து முடிக்கப் பெற்றோர் அதனை உள்ளே கொண்டுவந்தபோது. சிமியோன் குழந்தையைக் கையில் ஏந்திக் கடவுளைப் போற்றி, “ஆண்டவரே, உமது சொற்படி உம் அடியான் என்னை இப்போது அமைதியுடன் போகச் செய்கிறீர். ஏனெனில், மக்கள் அனைவரும் காணுமாறு, நீர் ஏற்பாடு செய்துள்ள உமது மீட்பை என் கண்கள் கண்டுகொண்டன. இம்மீட்பே பிற இனத்தாருக்கு வெளிப்பாடு அருளும் ஒளி; இதுவே உம் மக்களாகிய இஸ்ரயேலுக்குப் பெருமை” என்றார்.

குழந்தையைக் குறித்துக் கூறியவை பற்றி அதன் தாயும் தந்தையும் வியப்புற்றனர். சிமியோன் அவர்களுக்கு ஆசிகூறி, அதன் தாயாகிய மரியாவை நோக்கி, “இதோ, இக்குழந்தை இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களுள் பலரின் வீழ்ச்சிக்கும் எழுச்சிக்கும் காரணமாக இருக்கும்; எதிர்க்கப்படும் அடையாளமாகவும் இருக்கும். இவ்வாறு பலருடைய மறைவான எண்ணங்கள் வெளிப்படும். உமது உள்ளத்தையும் ஒரு வாள் ஊடுருவிப் பாயும்” என்றார்.

என் பிள்ளைகளே,

இயேசுவின் கட்டளைகளை நாம் கடைப்பிடித்தால் நாம் அவரை அறிந்து கொண்டோம் என்பது உறுதியாகத் தெரியும். “அவரை எனக்குத் தெரியும்” எனச் சொல்லிக் கொண்டு அவருடைய கட்டளைகளைக் கடைப்பிடிக்காதோர் பொய்யர்; உண்மை அவர்களிடம் இராது. ஆனால் அவரது வார்த்தையைக் கடைப்பிடிப்போரிடம் கடவுளின் அன்பு உண்மையாகவே நிறைவடைகிறது; நாம் அவரோடு இணைந்து இருக்கிறோம் என அதனால் அறிந்துகொள்ளலாம். அவரோடு இணைந்திருப்பதாகக் கூறுவோர் அவர் வாழ்ந்தவாறே வாழக் கடமைப்பட்டவர்கள்.

அன்பிற்குரியவர்களே! நான் உங்களுக்கு எழுதுவது புதியதொரு கட்டளை அல்ல; நீங்கள் தொடக்கத்திலிருந்தே பெற்றிருந்த பழைய கட்டளை தான் அது. நீங்கள் கேட்டறிந்த வார்த்தையே அப்பழைய கட்டளை. இருப்பினும் நான் உங்களுக்கு எழுதுவது ஒரு புதிய கட்டளையே. அது புதியது என்பது கிறிஸ்துவின் வாழ்விலும் உங்கள் வாழ்விலும் விளங்குகிறது. ஏனெனில் இருள் அகன்று போகிறது; உண்மை ஒளி ஏற்கெனவே ஒளிர்கிறது.

ஒளியில் இருப்பதாகச் சொல்லிக் கொண்டு தம் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளை வெறுப்போர் இருளில்தான் இருக்கின்றனர். தம் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளிடம் அன்பு கொள்வோர் ஒளியில் நிலைத்திருக்கின்றனர்; இடறி விழ வைக்கும் எதுவும் அவர்களிடம் இல்லை. தம் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளை வெறுப்போர் இருளில் இருக்கின்றனர்; இருளில் நடக்கின்றனர். அவர்கள் எங்குச் செல்கிறார்கள் என்பது அவர்களுக்குத் தெரியவில்லை. ஏனெனில் இருள் அவர்களுடையக் கண்களைக் குருடாக்கிவிட்டது.

'You have prepared a light to enlighten the pagans'

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 2:22-35 

When the time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, the parents of Jesus brought him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every male who first opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”) and to offer a sacrifice according to what is said in the Law of the Lord, “a pair of turtle-doves, or two young pigeons”. Now there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was upon him. And it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.” And his father and his mother marvelled at what was said about him. And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, “Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that is opposed (and a sword will pierce through your own soul also), so that thoughts from many hearts may be revealed.”

Anyone who loves his brother is living in the light

A reading from the first letter of  St.John 2:3-11 

Beloved: By this we know that we have come to know Jesus Christ, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.

Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
