MASS READINGS, TUESDAY 22 JUNE 2021, General Week 12

FIRST READING

"Let there be no quarrel between you and me, for we are brothers!" "

A Reading from the book of Genesis (13, 2.5-18)
Abram was extremely rich in herds, silver and gold. Lot, who accompanied Abram, also had small and large cattle, and his own camp. The country did not allow them to live together, because their possessions were too great for them to live together. There were disputes between the shepherds of Abram and those of Lot. The Canaanites and Perizzites also inhabited the land. Abram said to Lot: “Above all, let there be no quarrel between you and me, between your shepherds and mine, for we are brothers! Don't you have the whole country in front of you? So separate yourself from me. If you go left, I'll go right, and if you go right, I'll go left. Lot looked up and saw that the whole Jordan region was well irrigated. Before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, it was like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, when one arrives at the delta of the Nile. Lot chose the whole region of the Jordan for himself and set out east. This is how they parted. Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the region of the Jordan; he pushed his encampments as far as Sodom. The people of Sodom misbehaved, and they sinned gravely against the Lord.
After Lot left, the Lord said to Abram, “Lift up your eyes and look, from where you are, north and south, east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. I will make your descendants as numerous as the dust of the earth: if the grains of dust could be counted, your descendants could be counted! Get up ! Travel the country back and forth: it is to you that I am going to give it. Abram moved his encampment and settled in the oaks of Mambre, near Hebron; and there he built an altar to the Lord.
