அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தூய ஆவியின் வல்லமை உடையவராய்க் கலிலேயாவுக்குத் திரும்பிப்போனார். அவரைப் பற்றிய பேச்சு சுற்றுப்புறம் எங்கும் பரவியது. அவர் அவர்களுடைய தொழுகைக் கூடங்களில் கற்பித்து வந்தார். எல்லாரும் அவரைப்பற்றிப் பெருமையாகப் பேசினர்.

இயேசு தாம் வளர்ந்த ஊராகிய நாசரேத்துக்கு வந்தார். தமது வழக்கத்தின்படி ஓய்வுநாளில் தொழுகைக் கூடத்திற்குச் சென்று வாசிக்க எழுந்தார். இறைவாக்கினர் எசாயாவின் சுருளேடு அவரிடம் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. அவர் அதைப் பிரித்தபோது கண்ட பகுதியில் இவ்வாறு எழுதியிருந்தது:

“ஆண்டவருடைய ஆவி என்மேல் உளது; ஏனெனில், அவர் எனக்கு அருள்பொழிவு செய்துள்ளார். ஏழைகளுக்கு நற்செய்தியை அறிவிக்கவும் சிறைப்பட்டோர் விடுதலை அடைவர், பார்வையற்றோர் பார்வை பெறுவர் என முழக்கமிடவும் ஒடுக்கப்பட்டோரை விடுதலை செய்து அனுப்பவும் ஆண்டவர் அருள்தரும் ஆண்டினை முழக்கமிட்டு அறிவிக்கவும் அவர் என்னை அனுப்பியுள்ளார்.”

பின்னர் அந்த ஏட்டைச் சுருட்டி ஏவலரிடம் கொடுத்துவிட்டு அமர்ந்தார். தொழுகைக்கூடத்தில் இருந்தவர்களின் கண்கள் அனைத்தும் அவரையே உற்று நோக்கியிருந்தன. அப்பொழுது அவர் அவர்களை நோக்கி, “நீங்கள் கேட்ட இந்த மறைநூல் வாக்கு இன்று நிறைவேறிற்று” என்றார். அவர் வாயிலிருந்து வந்த அருள்மொழிகளைக் கேட்டு வியப்புற்று, “இவர் யோசேப்பின் மகன் அல்லவா?” எனக் கூறி எல்லாரும் அவரைப் பாராட்டினர்.

 ஏழைகளுக்கு நற்செய்தியை அறிவிக்கவும், சிறைப்பட்டோர் விடுதலை அடைவர் என முழக்கமிட்டு அறிவிக்கவும் ஆண்டவர் என்னை அனுப்பியுள்ளார். அல்லேலூயா.

அன்பார்ந்தவர்களே,

கடவுளே முதலில் நம்மிடம் அன்பு செலுத்தியதால் நாமும் அன்பு செலுத்துகிறோம். கடவுளிடம் அன்பு செலுத்துவதாகச் சொல்லிக் கொண்டு தம் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளை வெறுப்போர் பொய்யர். தம் கண் முன்னேயுள்ள சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளிடம் அன்பு செலுத்தாதோர், கண்ணுக்குப் புலப்படாத கடவுளிடம் அன்பு செலுத்த முடியாது. கடவுளிடம் அன்பு செலுத்துவோர் தம் சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளிடமும் அன்பு செலுத்த வேண்டும். இதுவே அவரிடமிருந்து நாம் பெற்ற கட்டளை.

இயேசுதான் மெசியா என்று நம்புவோர் அனைவரும் கடவுளிடமிருந்து பிறந்தவர்கள். பெற்றவரிடம் அன்பு செலுத்துவோர் பிள்ளைகளிடமும் அன்பு செலுத்துவர். நாம் கடவுள்மீது அன்புகொண்டு அவர் கட்டளைகளைக் கடைப்பிடிக்கும்போது, கடவுளின் பிள்ளைகள்மீதும் அன்பு கொள்கிறோம் என்பது நமக்குத் தெரியவரும். ஏனெனில் அவர் கட்டளைகளைக் கடைப்பிடிப்பதில்தான் கடவுள் அன்பு அடங்கியுள்ளது. அவர் கட்டளைகள் நமக்குச் சுமையாய் இருப்பதில்லை. ஏனெனில் கடவுளிடமிருந்து பிறக்கும் அனைத்தும் உலகை வெல்லும்; உலகை வெல்லுவது நம் நம்பிக்கையே.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 4: 14-22 

At that time: Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a report about him went out through all the surrounding country. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.” And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him. And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” And all spoke well of him and marvellled at the gracious words that were coming from his mouth.

Anyone who loves God must also love his brother.

A Reading from the First Letter of St.John 4: 19-5:4 

Beloved: We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God”, and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother. Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
