அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசுவும் அவர்தம் சீடரும் யூதேயப் பகுதிக்குச் சென்றனர். அங்கே அவர் அவர்களோடு தங்கித் திருமுழுக்குக் கொடுத்து வந்தார். யோவானும் சலீம் என்னும் இடத்துக்கு அருகில் உள்ள அயினோனில் திருமுழுக்குக் கொடுத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார். ஏனெனில் அங்குத் தண்ணீர் நிறைய இருந்தது. மக்கள் அங்கு சென்று திருமுழுக்குப் பெற்று வந்தார்கள். யோவான் சிறையில் அடைக்கப்படுமுன் இவ்வாறு நிகழ்ந்தது.

ஒரு நாள் யோவானின் சீடர் சிலருக்கும் யூதர் ஒருவருக்கும் இடையே தூய்மைச் சடங்குபற்றி விவாதம் எழுந்தது. அவர்கள் யோவானிடம் போய், “ரபி, யோர்தான் ஆற்றின் அக்கரைப் பகுதியில் உம்மோடு ஒருவர் இருந்தாரே! நீரும் அவரைக் குறித்துச் சான்று பகர்ந்தீரே! இப்போது அவரும் திருமுழுக்குக் கொடுக்கிறார். எல்லாரும் அவரிடம் செல்கின்றனர்” என்றார்கள்.

யோவான் அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, “விண்ணிலிருந்து அருளப்படா விட்டால் எவரும் எதையும் பெற்றுக்கொள்ள முடியாது. ‘நான் மெசியா அல்ல; மாறாக அவருக்கு முன்னோடியாக அனுப்பப்பட்டவன்’ என்று நான் கூறியதற்கு நீங்களே சாட்சிகள். மணமகள் மணமகனுக்கே உரியவர். மணமகனின் தோழரோ அருகில் நின்று அவர் சொல்வதைக் கேட்கிறார்; அதில் அவர் பெருமகிழ்ச்சி அடைகிறார். என் மகிழ்ச்சியும் இது போன்றது. இம்மகிழ்ச்சி என்னுள் நிறைந்துள்ளது. அவரது செல்வாக்குப் பெருக வேண்டும்; எனது செல்வாக்குக் குறைய வேண்டும்” என்றார்.

அன்பார்ந்தவர்களே,

நாம் கேட்பது கடவுளுடைய திருவுளத்திற்கு ஏற்ப அமைந்திருப்பின், அவர் நமக்குச் செவிசாய்க்கிறார்; இதுவே நாம் அவர்மீது கொண்டுள்ள உறுதியான நம்பிக்கை. நாம் எதைக் கேட்டாலும் அவர் நமக்குச் செவிசாய்க்கிறார் என்று நமக்குத் தெரியும். எனவே, நாம் அவரிடம் கேட்டவற்றைப் பெறுவோம் என்னும் உறுதி நமக்கு உண்டு.

பாவம் செய்வோர் சாவுக்குரிய பாவம் செய்யவில்லை என்று கண்டால், அவர்களுக்காகக் கடவுளிடம் வேண்டுதல் செய்யவேண்டும். கடவுளும் அவர்களுக்கு வாழ்வு அருள்வார். சாவுக்குரிய பாவமும் உண்டு. அப்பாவத்தைச் செய்வோருக்காக வேண்டுதல் செய்யவேண்டும் என நான் சொல்லவில்லை. தீச்செயல் அனைத்துமே பாவம். ஆனால் எல்லாப் பாவமுமே சாவுக்குரியவை அல்ல.

கடவுளிடமிருந்து பிறந்தோர் பாவம் செய்வதில்லை என்பது நமக்குத் தெரியும். ஏனெனில் கடவுளிடமிருந்து பிறந்தவர்களை அவர் பாதுகாக்கிறார். தீயோன் அவர்களைத் தீண்டுவதில்லை. நாம் கடவுளைச் சார்ந்தவர்கள்; ஆனால், உலகனைத்தும் தீயோனின் பிடியில் இருக்கிறது. இது நமக்குத் தெரியும்.

இறைமகன் வந்து உண்மையான இறைவனை அறிந்துகொள்ளும் ஆற்றலை நமக்குத் தந்துள்ளார். இது நமக்குத் தெரியும். நாம் உண்மையான இறைவனோடும் அவர் மகன் இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவோடும் இணைந்து வாழ்கிறோம். இவரே உண்மைக் கடவுள். இவரே நிலைவாழ்வு.

At that time: Jesus and his disciples went into the Judean countryside, and he remained there with them and was baptizing. John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because water was plentiful there, and people were coming and being baptized (for John had not yet been put in prison). Now a discussion arose between some of John’s disciples and a Jew over purification. And they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, to whom you bore witness— look, he is baptizing, and all are going to him.” John answered, “A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven. You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I have been sent before him.’ The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease.”

A Reading from the First Letter of St.John 5: 14-21 

Beloved: This is the confidence that we have towards the Son of God, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life— to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death. We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him. We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு ஓர் ஊரில் இருந்தபோது, உடலெல்லாம் தொழுநோயால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டிருந்த ஒருவர் வந்தார். அவர் இயேசுவைக் கண்டு அவர் காலில் விழுந்து, “ஆண்டவரே, நீர் விரும்பினால் எனது நோயை நீக்க உம்மால் முடியும்” என மன்றாடினார். இயேசு கையை நீட்டி, அவரைத் தொட்டு, “நான் விரும்புகிறேன்; உமது நோய் நீங்குக!” என்றார். உடனே தொழுநோய் அவரைவிட்டு நீங்கிற்று. இயேசு அவரிடம், “இதை யாருக்கும் சொல்ல வேண்டாம். நீர் போய் உம்மைக் குருவிடம் காட்டி நோய் நீங்கியதற்காக மோசே கட்டளையிட்டுள்ள காணிக்கையைச் செலுத்தும். நீர் நலமடைந்துள்ளீர் என்பதற்கு அது சான்றாகும்” என்று கட்டளையிட்டார்.

ஆயினும் இயேசுவைப் பற்றிய செய்தி இன்னும் மிகுதியாகப் பரவிற்று. அவரது சொல்லைக் கேட்கவும் தங்கள் நோய்கள் நீங்கி நலம் பெறவும் பெருந்திரளான மக்கள் அவரிடம் கூடிவந்துகொண்டிருந்தார்கள். அவரோ ஆள் நடமாட்டம் இல்லாத இடங்களுக்குச் சென்று தனித்திருந்து இறைவனிடம் வேண்டிவந்தார்.

அன்பார்ந்தவர்களே,

இயேசு இறைமகன் என்று நம்புவோரைத் தவிர உலகை வெல்வோர் யார்? நீராலும் இரத்தத்தாலும் வந்தவர் இயேசு கிறிஸ்து. அவர் நீரால் மட்டும் அல்ல. நீராலும் இரத்தத்தாலும் வந்தவர் என தூய ஆவியார் சான்று பகர்கிறார். தூய ஆவியாரே உண்மை. எனவே சான்று அளிப்பவை மூன்று இருக்கின்றன. தூய ஆவியும் நீரும் இரத்தமுமே அவை. இம்மூன்றும் ஒரே நோக்கம் கொண்டவை.

மனிதர் தரும் சான்றை நாம் ஏற்றுக்கொள்கிறோமே! கடவுள் தரும் சான்று அதைவிட மேலானது அன்றோ! கடவுள் தம் மகனுக்குச் சான்று பகர்ந்துள்ளார். இறைமகன்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொண்டுள்ளோர் இச்சான்றைத் தம்முள் கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர். ஆனால், கடவுள்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளாதோர் அவரைப் பொய்யராக்குகின்றனர். ஏனெனில் தம் மகனைக் குறித்து அவர் அளித்த சான்றை அவர்கள் நம்பவில்லை.

கடவுள் நமக்கு நிலைவாழ்வை அளித்துள்ளார். இந்த வாழ்வு அவர் மகனிடம் இருக்கிறது. இதுவே அச்சான்று. இறைமகனைக் கொண்டிருப்போர் வாழ்வைக் கொண்டுள்ளனர்; அவரைக் கொண்டிராதோர் வாழ்வைக் கொண்டிரார்.

இறைமகனிடம் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டுள்ளோருக்கு நிலைவாழ்வு உண்டு என நீங்கள் அறிந்துகொள்ளுமாறு உங்களுக்கு இவற்றை எழுதுகிறேன்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Luke 5: 12-16 

While Jesus was in one of the cities, there came a man full of leprosy. And when he saw Jesus, he fell on his face and begged him, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” And Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him. And he charged him to tell no one, but “go and show yourself to the priest, and make an offering for your cleansing, as Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” But now even more the report about him went abroad, and great crowds gathered to hear him and to be healed of their infirmities. But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray.

A Reading from the First Letter of St.John 5:5-13

Beloved: Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
