"Behold, the sower went out to sow" 

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark (4, 1-20) 

At this time Jesus began to teach again by the Sea of ​​Galilee. A very large crowd gathered near him, so that he got into a boat and sat down. He was on the sea, and all the crowd was by the sea, on the shore.

He taught them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them: “Listen! Behold, the sower went out to sow. As he was sowing, grain fell by the wayside; the birds came and they ate everything. Grain also fell on stony ground, where there was not much soil; he got up immediately, because the earth was shallow; and when the sun rose, that grain burned up, and for lack of roots it withered up. Grain also fell in the brambles, the brambles sprouted up, choked it, and it did not bear fruit. But other grains fell in the good soil; they brought forth fruit growing and developing, and they brought forth thirty, sixty, a hundred, to one. And Jesus said: "He who has ears to hear, let him hear! "

When he was alone, those around him with the Twelve asked him about the parables. He said to them: “To you is given the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to those who are outside, everything is presented in the form of parables. And so, as the prophet says: No matter how much they look with all their eyes, they will not see; however much they listen with all their ears, they will not understand; otherwise they would convert and receive forgiveness. "

He said to them again: "You do not understand this parable? So how will you understand all the parables? The sower sows the Word. There are those who are by the wayside where the Word is sown: when they hear it, Satan comes immediately and removes the Word sown in them. And likewise, there are those who received the seed in stony places: these, when they hear the Word, they immediately receive it with joy; but they have no root in them, they are the people of a moment; whether distress or persecution come because of the Word, they stumble right away. And there are others who received the seed in the brambles: these hear the Word, but the cares of the world, the seduction of wealth and all the other lusts invade them and choke the Word, which does not give no fruit. And there are those who have received the seed in good soil: these hear the Word, they welcome it, and they bear fruit: thirty, sixty, a hundred, for one. "
