"The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath" 

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark (2, 23-28) 

One Sabbath day, Jesus was walking through the wheat fields; and his disciples on the way began to pluck the ears of corn. The Pharisees would say to him, “Look what they do on the Sabbath! This is not allowed. "And Jesus said to them:" Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry, himself and those who were with him? In the time of the high priest Abiatar, he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the offering which no one has the right to eat, except the priests, and he also gave some to those who accompanied him. "

He said to them," The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. This is why the Son of man is master even of the Sabbath. "
