Holy Monday —
FIRST READING
“He will not cry, he will not make his voice heard outside” (Is 42, 1-7)
Reading the book of the prophet Isaiah
Thus says the Lord:
“Here is my servant whom I uphold,
my chosen one who has all my favor.
I have placed my spirit on him;
to the nations he will proclaim right.
He will not shout, he will not raise his voice,
he will not make his voice heard outside.
He will not break a reed that bends,
he will not quench a wick that fades,
he will proclaim justice in truth.
He will not falter, he will not waver,
until he establishes right on the earth,
and the distant isles
long to receive his laws. »
Thus says God, the Lord,
who creates the heavens and spreads them out,
who establishes the earth and its produce;
he gives breath to the people who inhabit it,
and spirit to those who travel through it:
“I, the Lord, have called you according to righteousness;
I will take you by the hand, I will shape you,
I will make you the covenant of the people,
the light of the nations:
you will open the eyes of the blind,
you will bring out the captives from their prison,
and from their dungeon those who dwell in darkness. »
– Word of the Lord.
