அக்காலத்தில்

யோவான் கைதுசெய்யப்பட்டபின், கடவுளின் நற்செய்தியைப் பறைசாற்றிக்கொண்டே இயேசு கலிலேயாவிற்கு வந்தார். “காலம் நிறைவேறிவிட்டது. இறையாட்சி நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டது; மனம் மாறி நற்செய்தியை நம்புங்கள்” என்று அவர் கூறினார்.

அவர் கலிலேயக் கடலோரமாய்ச் சென்றபோது, சீமோனையும் அவர் சகோதரரான அந்திரேயாவையும் கண்டார். மீனவர்களான அவர்கள் கடலில் வலை வீசிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். இயேசு அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, “என் பின்னே வாருங்கள்; நான் உங்களை மனிதரைப் பிடிப்பவர் ஆக்குவேன்” என்றார். உடனே அவர்கள் வலைகளை விட்டுவிட்டு அவரைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள்.

பின்னர், சற்று அப்பால் சென்றபோது, செபதேயுவின் மகன் யாக்கோபையும் அவர் சகோதரரான யோவானையும் இயேசு கண்டார். அவர்கள் படகில் வலைகளைப் பழுது பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். உடனே இயேசு அவர்களையும் அழைத்தார். அவர்களும் தங்கள் தந்தை செபதேயுவைக் கூலியாள்களோடு படகில் விட்டுவிட்டு அவர் பின்சென்றார்கள்.

ஆண்டவர் எனக்குச் செய்த எல்லா நன்மைகளுக்காகவும் நான் அவருக்கு என்ன கைம்மாறு செய்வேன்?

மீட்பின் கிண்ணத்தைக் கையில் எடுத்து, ஆண்டவரது பெயரைத் தொழுவேன். - பல்லவி

காலம் நிறைவேறிவிட்டது, இறையாட்சி நெருங்கி வந்துவிட்டது; மனம் மாறி நற்செய்தியை நம்புங்கள், என்கிறார் ஆண்டவர். அல்லேலூயா.

அன்னா மலடியாக இருந்ததால், அவருடைய சக்களத்தி அவரை எள்ளி நகைத்து வந்தார்.

எப்ராயிம் மலைநாட்டைச் சார்ந்த இராமாத்தயிம் சோப்பிமில் எல்கானா என்ற ஒருவர் இருந்தார். இவர் எப்ராயிமைச் சார்ந்த சூப்பின் மகனான தோகூவின் மைந்தனான எலிகூபின் புதல்வனான எரொகாமின் மகன். அவருக்கு அன்னா, பெனின்னா என்ற இரு மனைவியர் இருந்தனர்; பெனின்னாவுக்குக் குழந்தைகள் இருந்தனர். அன்னாவுக்கோ குழந்தைகள் இல்லை.

எல்கானா ஆண்டுதோறும் சீலோவில் படைகளின் ஆண்டவரை வழிபடவும் அவருக்குப் பலி செலுத்தவும் தம் நகரிலிருந்து சென்று வருவார். அங்கே ஆண்டவரின் குருவான ஏலியின் இரு புதல்வர்கள் ஓப்னியும் பினகாசும் இருந்தனர். எல்கானா, தாம் பலி செலுத்திய நாளில், தம் மனைவி பெனின்னாவுக்கும் அவளுடைய புதல்வர் புதல்வியர் அனைவருக்கும் பங்கு கொடுப்பதுண்டு. அன்னாவின்மீது அவர் அன்புகொண்டிருந்தும் அவருக்கு ஒரே பங்கைத்தான் அளித்தார். ஏனெனில் ஆண்டவர் அவரை மலடியாக்கியிருந்தார். ஆண்டவர் அவரை மலடியாக்கியிருந்ததால், அவருடைய சக்களத்தி அவரைத் துன்புறுத்தி வதைத்தாள். இவ்வாறு ஆண்டுதோறும் நடந்தது; அவர் ஆண்டவரின் இல்லம் வந்தபோதெல்லாம் அவள் அவரைத் துன்புறுத்துவாள். அன்னா உண்ணாமல் அழுவார். அப்போது அவர் கணவர் எல்கானா அவரை நோக்கி, “அன்னா, நீ ஏன் அழுகிறாய்? நீ ஏன் உண்ணவில்லை? நீ ஏன் மனவருத்தம் அடைகிறாய்? நான் உனக்குப் பத்துப் புதல்வரைவிட மேலானவன் அன்றோ?” என்பார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 1: 14-20. 

After John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. And immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants and followed him.

A Reading from the First Book of Samuel 1:1-8

There was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim of the hill country of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah the son of Jeroham, son of Elihu, son of Tohu, son of Zuph, an Ephrathite. He had two wives. The name of one was Hannah, and the name of the other, Peninnah. And Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. Now this man used to go up year by year from his city to worship and to sacrifice to the Lord of hosts at Shiloh, where the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were priests of the Lord. On the day when Elkanah sacrificed, he would give portions to Peninnah his wife and to all her sons and daughters. But to Hannah he gave a double portion, because he loved her, though the Lord had closed her womb. And her rival used to provoke her grievously to irritate her, because the Lord had closed her womb. So it went on year by year; as often as she went up to the house of the Lord, she used to provoke her. Therefore Hannah wept and would not eat. And Elkanah, her husband, said to her, “Hannah, why do you weep? And why do you not eat? And why is your heart sad? Am I not more to you than ten sons?”
