தொழுநோய் அவரை விட்டு நீங்க, அவர் நலமடைந்தார்.

ஒரு நாள் தொழுநோயாளர் ஒருவர் இயேசுவிடம் வந்து, “நீர் விரும்பினால் எனது நோயை நீக்க உம்மால் முடியும்” என்று முழந்தாள்படியிட்டு வேண்டினார். இயேசு அவர்மீது பரிவு கொண்டு தமது கையை நீட்டி அவரைத் தொட்டு அவரிடம், “நான் விரும்புகிறேன், உமது நோய் நீங்குக!” என்றார். உடனே தொழுநோய் அவரைவிட்டு நீங்க, அவர் நலமடைந்தார்.

பிறகு அவரிடம், “இதை யாருக்கும் சொல்ல வேண்டாம், கவனமாய் இரும். ஆனால் நீர் போய் உம்மைக் குருவிடம் காட்டி, நோய் நீங்கியதற்காக மோசே கட்டளையிட்டுள்ள காணிக்கையைச் செலுத்தும். நீர் நலமடைந்துள்ளீர் என்பதற்கு அது சான்றாகும்” என்று மிகக் கண்டிப்பாகக் கூறி உடனடியாக அவரை அனுப்பிவிட்டார்.

ஆனால் அவர் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்று இந்தச் செய்தியை எங்கும் அறிவித்துப் பரப்பிவந்தார். அதனால் இயேசு எந்த நகருக்குள்ளும் வெளிப்படையாய்ச் செல்ல முடியவில்லை; வெளியே தனிமையான இடங்களில் தங்கி வந்தார். எனினும் மக்கள் எல்லா இடங்களிலிருந்தும் அவரிடம் வந்துகொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

இப்போது நீர் எங்களை ஒதுக்கித் தள்ளிவிட்டீர்; இழிவுபடுத்திவிட்டீர். எங்கள் படைகளுடன் நீர் செல்லாதிருக்கின்றீர்.

இயேசு விண்ணரசு பற்றிய நற்செய்தியைப் பறைசாற்றினார்; மக்களிடையே இருந்த நோய் நொடிகள் அனைத்தையும் குணமாக்கினார். அல்லேலூயா.

அந்நாள்களில்

இஸ்ரயேலர் பெலிஸ்தியருக்கு எதிராகப் போர்தொடுத்து, எபனேசரில் பாளையம் இறங்கினர், பெலிஸ்தியரும் அபேக்கில் பாளையம் இறங்கினர். பெலிஸ்தியர் இஸ்ரயேலருக்கு எதிராக அணிவகுத்துச் செல்ல, போர் மூண்டது. பெலிஸ்தியர் இஸ்ரயேலரை முறியடித்து அவர்களுள் நாலாயிரம் பேரைப் போர்க்களத்தில் வெட்டி வீழ்த்தினர்.

வீரர்கள் பாளையத்திற்குத் திரும்பியபோது, இஸ்ரயேலின் பெரியோர் கூறியது: “இன்று பெலிஸ்தியரிடம் நம்மை ஆண்டவர் தோல்வியுறச் செய்தது ஏன்? ஆண்டவரின் உடன்படிக்கைப் பேழையை சீலோவினின்று நம்மிடையே கொண்டு வருவோம். அது நம்மிடையே வந்தால், நம் எதிரிகள் கையினின்று நம்மைக் காக்கும்”.

ஆகவே வீரர்கள் சீலோவுக்கு ஆள்களை அனுப்பி, கெருபுகளின்மீது வீற்றிருக்கும் படைகளின் ஆண்டவரது உடன்படிக்கைப் பேழையை அங்கிருந்து கொண்டுவரச் செய்தனர். ஏலியின் இரு புதல்வர்களான ஒப்னியும் பினகாசும் கடவுளின் உடன்படிக்கைப் பேழையோடு இருந்தனர். ஆண்டவரது உடன்படிக்கைப் பேழை பாளையத்திற்குள் வந்ததும், இஸ்ரயேலர் அனைவரும் நிலமே அதிரும் அளவிற்குப் பெரும் ஆரவாரம் செய்தனர்.

இந்த ஆரவாரத்தைக் கேட்டதும் பெலிஸ்தியர், “எபிரேயரின் பாளையத்தில் இப்பெரும் ஆரவாரமும் கூச்சலும் ஏன்?” என்று வினவினர். ஆண்டவரது உடன்படிக்கைப் பேழை பாளையத்தினுள் வந்துவிட்டது என்று அறிந்து கொண்டனர். அப்போது பெலிஸ்தியர் பேரச்சம் கொண்டு, “கடவுள் பாளையத்திற்குள் வந்துவிட்டார். நமக்கு ஐயோ கேடு! இதற்கு முன்பு இப்படி நேர்ந்ததே இல்லை! நமக்கு ஐயோ கேடு! இத்துணை வலிமைமிகு கடவுளிடமிருந்து நம்மைக் காப்பவர் யார்? இக்கடவுள்தான் எகிப்தியரைப் பாலைநிலத்தில் பல்வேறு வாதைகளால் துன்புறுத்தியவர்! பெலிஸ்தியரே! துணிவு கொள்ளுங்கள்! ஆண்மையோடு இருங்கள்! எபிரேயர் உங்களுக்கு அடிமைகளாக இருந்தது போல, நீங்களும் எபிரேயருக்கு அடிமைகளாக ஆகாதபடிக்கு ஆண்மையோடு போரிடுங்கள்!” என்றனர்.

பெலிஸ்தியர் மீண்டும் போர்தொடுத்தனர். இஸ்ரயேலர் தோல்வியுற, அவர்களுள் ஒவ்வொருவனும் தன் கூடாரத்திற்குத் தப்பியோடினான். அன்று மாபெரும் உயிர்ச்சேதம் ஏற்பட்டது. இஸ்ரயேலருள் முப்பதாயிரம் காலாட்படையினர் மாண்டனர். கடவுளின் பேழை கைப்பற்றப்பட்டது. ஏலியின் இரு புதல்வர்கள் ஒப்னியும் பினகாசும் மாண்டனர்.

At that time: A leper came to Jesus, imploring him, and kneeling said to him, “If you will, you can make me clean.” Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, “I will; be clean.” And immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. And Jesus sternly charged him and sent him away at once, and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, for a proof to them.” But he went out and began to talk freely about it, and to spread the news, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter a town, but was out in desolate places, and people were coming to him from every quarter.

Israel is defeated and the ark of God is captured

A Reading from the First Book of Samuel 4:1-11 

It happened that in those days, Israel went out to battle against the Philistines. They encamped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines encamped at Aphek. The Philistines drew up in line against Israel, and when the battle spread, Israel was defeated before the Philistines, who killed about four thousand men on the field of battle. And when the people came to the camp, the elders of Israel said, “Why has the Lord defeated us today before the Philistines? Let us bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord here from Shiloh, that it may come among us and save us from the power of our enemies.” So the people sent to Shiloh and brought from there the ark of the covenant of the Lord of hosts, who is enthroned on the cherubim. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God. As soon as the ark of the covenant of the Lord came into the camp, all Israel gave a mighty shout, so that the earth resounded. And when the Philistines heard the noise of the shouting, they said, “What does this great shouting in the camp of the Hebrews mean?” And when they learned that the ark of the Lord had come to the camp, the Philistines were afraid, for they said, “A god has come into the camp.” And they said, “Woe to us! For nothing like this has happened before. Woe to us! Who can deliver us from the power of these mighty gods? These are the gods who struck the Egyptians with every sort of plague in the wilderness. Take courage, and be men, O Philistines, lest you become slaves to the Hebrews as they have been to you; be men and fight.” So the Philistines fought, and Israel was defeated, and they fled, every man to his home. And there was a very great slaughter, for thirty thousand foot soldiers of Israel fell. And the ark of God was captured, and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, died.
