“இறைமகன் நீரே” என்று தீய ஆவிகள் கத்தின. இயேசு தம்மை வெளிப்படுத்த வேண்டாமெனச் சொன்னார்.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தொழுகைக்கூடத்திலிருந்து புறப்பட்டுத் தம் சீடருடன் கடலோரம் சென்றார். கலிலேயாவிலிருந்து பெருந்திரளான மக்கள் அவரைப் பின்தொடர்ந்தனர். மேலும் யூதேயா, எருசலேம், இதுமேயா, யோர்தான் அக்கரைப்பகுதி, தீர், சீதோன் ஆகிய இடங்களிலிருந்தும் பெருந்திரளான மக்கள் அவர் செய்தவற்றையெல்லாம் கேள்வியுற்று அவரிடம் வந்தனர். மக்கள் கூட்டம் தம்மை நெருக்கிவிடாதவாறு தமக்காகப் படகு ஒன்றை முன்னேற்பாடாக வைத்திருக்குமாறு அவர் சீடருக்குச் சொன்னார்.

ஏனெனில், பலரை அவர் குணமாக்கியதால், நோயுற்றோர் அனைவரும் அவரைத் தொட வேண்டுமென்று வந்து அவர்மீது விழுந்து கொண்டிருந் தனர். தீய ஆவிகளும் அவரைக் கண்டபோதே அவர்முன் விழுந்து, “இறைமகன் நீரே” என்று கத்தின. அவரோ, தம்மை வெளிப்படுத்த வேண்டாமென அவற்றிடம் மிகக் கண்டிப்பாய்ச் சொன்னார்.

என் தந்தை சவுல் உன்னைக் கொல்லத் தேடுகிறார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

தாவீது பெலிஸ்தியனைக் கொன்றபின், வீரர்கள் வீடு திரும்பிக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது, இஸ்ரயேலின் எல்லா நகர்களிலிருந்தும் பெண்கள் ஆடல் பாடலுடன் அரசர் சவுலைச் சந்திக்க வந்தனர்; அவர்கள் கஞ்சிராக்களோடும் நரம்பிசைக் கருவிகளுடனும் மகிழ்ச்சிப் பாடல் எழுப்பினர். அப்பெண்கள் அப்படி ஆடிப்பாடுகையில், “சவுல் ஆயிரம் பேரைக் கொன்றார்; தாவீதோ பதினாயிரம் பேரைக் கொன்றார்” என்று பாடினர். இந்த வார்த்தைகள் சவுலுக்கு அறவே பிடிக்கவில்லை; அவர் மிகவும் சினமுற்று, “அவர்கள் ‘தாவீதுக்குப் பதினாயிரம் பேர்’ என்றனர். எனக்கோ ‘ஆயிரம் பேர் மட்டுமே’ என்றனர். அவனுக்கு இன்னும் குறைவாக இருப்பது ஆட்சி ஒன்றுதான்!” என்று கூறினார். அன்று முதல் சவுல் தாவீதைப் பொறாமைக் கண்கொண்டு பார்க்கலானார்.

தாவீதைக் கொல்ல வேண்டுமென்று தம் மகன் யோனத்தானிடமும் தம் அலுவலர் எல்லாரிடமும் சவுல் தெரிவித்தார். ஆனால் சவுலின் மகன் யோனத்தான் தாவீதின்மீது மிகுதியான அன்பு கொண்டிருந்தார். ஆதலால் தாவீதைப் பார்த்து யோனத்தான், “என் தந்தை சவுல் உன்னைக் கொல்லத் தேடுகிறார்; ஆதலால் எச்சரிக்கையாய் இரு, காலையிலேயே புறப்பட்டு மறைவான ஓர் இடத்திற்குச் சென்று ஒளிந்து கொள். நீ வெளியில் இருக்கும் சமயத்தில் நான் என் தந்தையின் அருகில் இருந்து கொண்டு, உன்னைப் பற்றி அவரிடம் பேச்சுக் கொடுப்பேன்; அப்படி நான் அறிகிறதையெல்லாம் உனக்குத் தெரிவிப்பேன்” என்றார்.

யோனத்தான் தாவீதைப்பற்றித் தம் தந்தை சவுலிடம் நல்ல விதமாகப் பேசி, “அரசர் தம் அடியான் தாவீதின் பொருட்டுப் பாவம் செய்ய வேண்டாம்; ஏனெனில் அவன் உமக்குத் தீங்கு ஏதும் செய்ததில்லை; மேலும் அவனுடைய செயல்கள் உம் அரசில் மிகவும் பயனுடையனவாய் இருந்தன; அவன் தன் உயிரை ஒரு பொருட்டாய் எண்ணாது அப்பெலிஸ்தியனைக் கொன்றான்; அதனால் ஆண்டவர் இஸ்ரயேலர் எல்லாருக்கும் பெரும் வெற்றியை அளித்தார். நீர் அதைக் கண்டுமகிழ்ச்சியுற்றீர்;அப்படியிருக்க எக்காரணமும் இல்லாமல் தாவீதைக் கொல்வதன் மூலம் குற்றமற்ற இரத்தத்திற்கு எதிராக நீர் ஏன் பாவம் செய்ய வேண்டும்?” என்று கூறினார்.

சவுல் யோனத்தானின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டார்; அதனால் சவுல், “வாழும் ஆண்டவர்மேல் ஆணை! அவன் கொலை செய்யப்படமாட்டான்” என்றார்.

பின்பு யோனத்தான் தாவீதை அழைத்து இவ்வார்த்தைகளை எல்லாம் அவருக்குக் கூறினார்; மேலும் யோனத்தான் தாவீதைச் சவுலிடம் அழைத்துச் செல்ல, முன்பு போலவே தாவீது அவரது பணியில் ஈடுபட்டார்.

He warned them not to make him known as the Son of God

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 3: 7-12 

At that time: Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed from Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem and Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him. And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they crush him, for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him. And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” And he strictly ordered them not to make him known.

A Reading from the First Book of Samuel 18: 6-9,19:1-7

In those days: When David returned from striking down the Philistine, the women came out of all the cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with songs of joy, and with musical instruments. And the women sang to one another as they celebrated, “Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his ten thousands.” And Saul was very angry, and this saying displeased him. He said, “They have ascribed to David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed thousands, and what more can he have but the kingdom?” And Saul kept an eye on David from that day on. And Saul spoke to Jonathan his son and to all his servants, that they should kill David. But Jonathan, Saul’s son, delighted much in David. And Jonathan told David, “Saul my father seeks to kill you. Therefore be on your guard in the morning. Stay in a secret place and hide yourself. And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, and I will speak to my father about you. And if I learn anything I will tell you.” And Jonathan spoke well of David to Saul his father and said to him, “Let not the king sin against his servant David, because he has not sinned against you, and because his deeds have brought good to you. For he took his life in his hand and he struck down the Philistine, and the Lord worked a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it, and rejoiced. Why then will you sin against innocent blood by killing David without cause?” And Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan. Saul swore, “As the Lord lives, he shall not be put to death.” And Jonathan called David, and Jonathan reported to him all these things. And Jonathan brought David to Saul, and he was in his presence as before.
