அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “இந்த நிகழ்ச்சியைப்பற்றி நீங்கள் என்ன நினைக்கிறீர்கள்? ஒருவரிடம் இருக்கும் நூறு ஆடுகளுள் ஒன்று வழி தவறி அலைந்தால், அவர் தொண்ணூற்றொன்பது ஆடுகளையும் மலைப்பகுதியில் விட்டுவிட்டு, வழிதவறி அலையும் ஆட்டைத் தேடிச் செல்வார் அல்லவா? அவர் அதைக் கண்டுபிடித்தால் வழிதவறி அலையாத தொண்ணூற்றொன்பது ஆடுகளையும் பற்றி மகிழ்ச்சியடைவதைவிட வழி தவறிய அந்த ஓர் ஆட்டைப் பற்றியே மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியடைவார் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன். அவ்வாறே இச்சிறியோருள் ஒருவர்கூட நெறி தவறிப் போகக்கூடாது என்பதே உங்கள் விண்ணகத் தந்தையின் திருவுளம்.”

இறைவாக்கினர் எசாயா நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 40: 1-11

“ஆறுதல் கூறுங்கள்; என் மக்களுக்குக் கனிமொழி கூறுங்கள்” என்கிறார் உங்கள் கடவுள். எருசலேமிடம் இனிமையாய்ப் பேசி, உரத்த குரலில் அவளுக்குச் சொல்லுங்கள்; அவள் போராட்டம் நின்றுவிட்டது; அவள் குற்றம் மன்னிக்கப்பட்டது; அவள் தன் பாவங்கள் அனைத்திற்காகவும் ஆண்டவர் கையில் இருமடங்கு தண்டனை பெற்றுவிட்டாள்.

குரலொலி ஒன்று முழங்குகின்றது: பாலைநிலத்தில் ஆண்டவருக்காக வழியை ஆயத்தமாக்குங்கள்; பாழ்நிலத்தில் நம் கடவுளுக்காக நெடுஞ்சாலை ஒன்றைச் சீராக்குங்கள். பள்ளத்தாக்கு எல்லாம் நிரப்பப்படும்; மலை, குன்று யாவும் தாழ்த்தப்படும்; கோணலானது நேராக்கப்படும்; கரடு முரடானவை சமதளமாக்கப்படும். ஆண்டவரின் மாட்சி வெளிப்படுத்தப்படும்; மானிடர் அனைவரும் ஒருங்கே இதைக் காண்பர்; ஆண்டவர்தாமே இதை மொழிந்தார்.

“உரக்கக் கூறு” என்றது ஒரு குரல்; “எதை நான் உரக்கக் கூற வேண்டும்?” என்றேன். மானிடர் அனைவரும் புல்லே ஆவர்; அவர்களின் மேன்மை வயல்வெளிப் பூவே! ஆண்டவரின் ஆவி இறங்கி வரவே, புல் உலர்ந்து போம்; பூ வதங்கி விழும்; உண்மையில் மானிடர் புல்லே ஆவர்! புல் உலர்ந்து போம்; பூ வதங்கி விழும்; நம் ஆண்டவரின் வார்த்தையோ என்றென்றும் நிலைத்திருக்கும்.

சீயோனே! நற்செய்தி தருபவளே, உயர்மலைமேல் நின்றுகொள்! எருசலேமே! நற்செய்தி உரைப்பவளே! உன் குரலை எழுப்பு, அஞ்சாதே! ‘இதோ உன் கடவுள்’ என்று யூதா நகர்களிடம் முழங்கு! இதோ என் தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர் ஆற்றலுடன் வருகின்றார்; அவர் ஆற்றலோடு ஆட்சிபுரிய இருக்கிறார். அவர்தம் வெற்றிப் பரிசைத் தம்முடன் எடுத்து வருகின்றார்; அவர் வென்றவை அவர்முன் செல்கின்றன. ஆயனைப் போல் தம் மந்தையை அவர் மேய்ப்பார்; ஆட்டுக்குட்டிகளைத் தம் கையால் ஒன்றுசேர்ப்பார்; அவற்றைத் தம் தோளில் தூக்கிச் சுமப்பார்; சினையாடுகளைக் கவனத்துடன் நடத்திச் செல்வார்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 18:12-14 

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Tell me. Suppose a man has a hundred sheep and one of them strays; will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hillside and go in search of the stray? I tell you solemnly, if he finds it, it gives him more joy than do the ninety-nine that did not stray at all. Similarly, it is never the will of your Father in heaven that one of these little ones should be lost.’

Consolations from the heart of Jerusalem

A Reading from the Book of Isaiah 40:1-11 

‘Console my people, console them’

says your God.

‘Speak to the heart of Jerusalem

and call to her

that her time of service is ended,

that her sin is atoned for,

that she has received from the hand of the Lord

double punishment for all her crimes.’

A voice cries, ‘Prepare in the wilderness

a way for the Lord.

Make a straight highway for our God

across the desert.

Let every valley be filled in,

every mountain and hill be laid low.

Let every cliff become a plain,

and the ridges a valley;

then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed

and all mankind shall see it;

for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.’

A voice commands, ‘Cry!’

and I answered, ‘What shall I cry?’”

– ‘All flesh is grass

and its beauty like the wild flower’s.

The grass withers, the flower fades

when the breath of the Lord blows on them.

(The grass is without doubt the people.)

but the word of our God remains for ever.’

Go up on a high mountain,

joyful messenger to Zion.

Shout with a loud voice,

The prize of his victory is with him,

and leading to their rest the mother ewes.
