I shall ask the Father and he will give you another Advocate

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 14: 15-21

At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you for ever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you. Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.”

A Reading from the first letter of St.Peter 3:15-18 

Beloved: In your hearts honour Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defence to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behaviour in Christ may be put to shame. For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.

A Reading from the Acts of Apostles  8:5-8,14-17 

In those days: Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ. And the crowds with one accord paid attention to what was being said by Philip, when they heard him and saw the signs that he did. For unclean spirits, crying out with a loud voice, came out of many who had them, and many who were paralysed or lame were healed. So there was much joy in that city. Now when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent to them Peter and John, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, for he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “நீங்கள் என்மீது அன்பு கொண்டிருந்தால் என் கட்டளைகளைக் கடைப்பிடிப்பீர்கள். உங்களோடு என்றும் இருக்கும்படி மற்றொரு துணையாளரை உங்களுக்குத் தருமாறு நான் தந்தையிடம் கேட்பேன். தந்தை அவரை உங்களுக்கு அருள்வார். அவரே உண்மையை வெளிப்படுத்தும் தூய ஆவியார். உலகம் அவரை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள இயலாது. ஏனெனில் அது அவரைக் காண்பதுமில்லை, அறிவதுமில்லை. நீங்கள் அவரை அறிந்திருக்கிறீர்கள். ஏனெனில் அவர் உங்களோடு தங்கியிருக்கிறார்; உங்களுக்குள்ளும் இருக்கிறார்.

நான் உங்களைத் திக்கற்றவர்களாக விடமாட்டேன். உங்களிடம் திரும்பி வருவேன். இன்னும் சிறிது காலத்தில் உலகம் என்னைக் காணாது. ஆனால் நீங்கள் என்னைக் காண்பீர்கள். ஏனெனில் நான் வாழ்கிறேன்; நீங்களும் வாழ்வீர்கள். நான் தந்தையுள்ளும் நீங்கள் என்னுள்ளும் நான் உங்களுள்ளும் இருப்பதை அந்நாளில் நீங்கள் அறிந்துகொள்வீர்கள். என் கட்டளைகளை ஏற்றுக் கடைப்பிடிப்பவர் என்மீது அன்பு கொண்டுள்ளார். என்மீது அன்பு கொள்பவர்மீது தந்தையும் அன்பு கொள்வார். நானும் அவர்மீது அன்பு கொண்டு அவருக்கு என்னை வெளிப்படுத்துவேன்.”

அன்பிற்குரியவர்களே,

உங்கள் உள்ளத்தில் கிறிஸ்துவை ஆண்டவராகக் கொண்டு அவரைத் தூயவரெனப் போற்றுங்கள். நீங்கள் எதிர்நோக்கி இருப்பதைக் குறித்து யாராவது விளக்கம் கேட்டால் விடையளிக்க நீங்கள் எப்பொழுதும் ஆயத்தமாய் இருங்கள். ஆனால், பணிவோடும் மரியாதையோடும் விடை அளியுங்கள். உங்கள் மனச்சான்றும் குற்றமற்றதாய் இருக்கட்டும். அப்பொழுது உங்கள் கிறிஸ்தவ நன்னடத்தையைப் பழிக்கிறவர்கள் உங்களை இழிவாகப் பேசியதைக் குறித்து வெட்கப்படுவார்கள். ஏனெனில், தீமை செய்து துன்புறுவதைவிட, கடவுளுக்குத் திருவுளமானால், நன்மை செய்து துன்புறுவதே மேல்.

கிறிஸ்துவும் உங்கள் பாவங்களின் பொருட்டு ஒரே முறையாக இறந்தார். அவர் உங்களைக் கடவுளிடம் கொண்டு சேர்க்கவே இறந்தார். நீதியுள்ளவராகிய அவர் நீதியற்றவர்களுக்காக இறந்தார். மனித இயல்போடு இருந்த அவர் இறந்தார் எனினும் ஆவிக்குரிய இயல்பு உடையவராய் உயிர் பெற்றெழுந்தார்.
