Brethren: Now concerning the virgins, I have no command from the Lord, but I give my judgment as one who by the Lord’s mercy is trustworthy. I think that in view of the present distress it is good for a person to remain as he is. Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be free. Are you free from a wife? Do not seek a wife. But if you do marry, you have not sinned, and if a betrothed woman marries, she has not sinned. Yet those who marry will have worldly troubles, and I would spare you that. This is what I mean, brothers: the appointed time has grown very short. From now on, let those who have wives live as though they had none, and those who mourn as though they were not mourning, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing, and those who buy as though they had no goods, and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the present form of this world is passing away.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு சீடர்மீது தம் பார்வையைப் பதித்துக் கூறியவை: “ஏழைகளே, நீங்கள் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் இறையாட்சி உங்களுக்கு உரியதே. இப்பொழுது பட்டினியாய் இருப்போரே, நீங்கள் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் நிறைவு பெறுவீர்கள். இப்பொழுது அழுதுகொண்டிருப்போரே, நீங்கள் பேறுபெற்றோர்; ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் சிரித்து மகிழ்வீர்கள்.

ஆனால் செல்வர்களே ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் எல்லாம் அனுபவித்துவிட்டீர்கள். இப்போது உண்டு கொழுத்திருப்போரே, ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! ஏனெனில் பட்டினி கிடப்பீர்கள். இப்போது சிரித்து இன்புறுவோரே, ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! ஏனெனில் துயருற்று அழுவீர்கள். மக்கள் எல்லாரும் உங்களைப் புகழ்ந்து பேசும்போது ஐயோ! உங்களுக்குக் கேடு! ஏனெனில் அவர்களின் மூதாதையரும் போலி இறைவாக்கினருக்கு இவ்வாறே செய்தார்கள்.”

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

மணமாகாதவர்களைக் குறித்துப் பார்ப்போம். இவர்களைப் பற்றிய ஆண்டவரின் கட்டளை எதுவும் என்னிடம் இல்லை. எனினும், ஆண்டவரின் இரக்கத்தால் நம்பிக்கைக்குரியவனாய் இருக்கும் நான் என் கருத்தைச் சொல்கிறேன். மணமாகாதோர் தாம் அழைக்கப்பட்ட நிலையிலேயே இருந்துவிடுவது நல்லது. இப்போதுள்ள இடர் நிலையை முன்னிட்டு இவ்வாறு இருப்பதே நல்லதென எண்ணுகிறேன். மனைவியுடன் திருமணத்தால் இணைக்கப்பட்டு இருப்பவர்கள் மணவிலக்குக்கு வழி தேடக் கூடாது; மனைவியுடன் இணைக்கப்படாதவர்கள் திருமணம் செய்து கொள்ள வழி தேடக் கூடாது. நீங்கள் திருமணம் செய்து கொண்டால் அது பாவமல்ல. இளம் பெண்கள் திருமணம் செய்து கொண்டால் அதுவும் பாவமல்ல. ஆனால் திருமணம் செய்து கொள்வோர் இவ்வுலக வாழ்வில் இன்னலுறுவர். நீங்கள் அவ்வின்னல்களுக்கு உள்ளாகாதிருக்க வேண்டும் என்பதே என் நோக்கம்.

அன்பர்களே, நான் சொல்வது இதுவே: இனியுள்ள காலம் குறுகியதே. இனி மனைவி உள்ளவரும் மனைவி இல்லாதவர்போல இருக்கட்டும். அழுபவர் அழாதவர் போலவும், மகிழ்ச்சியுறுவோர் மகிழ்ச்சியற்றவர் போலவும், பொருள்களை வாங்குவோர் அவை இல்லாதவர் போலவும் இருக்கட்டும். உலகச் செல்வத்தைப் பயன்படுத்துவோர் அவற்றில் முழுமையாக ஈடுபடாதவர் போல் இருக்கட்டும். இவ்வுலகு இப்போது இருப்பது போல் நெடுநாள் இராது.

But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfil what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel” (which means, God with us).

தாவீதின் மகனும் ஆபிரகாமின் மகனுமான இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் மூதாதையர் பட்டியல்: ஆபிரகாமின் மகன் ஈசாக்கு; ஈசாக்கின் மகன் யாக்கோபு; யாக்கோபின் புதல்வர்கள் யூதாவும் அவர் சகோதரர்களும். யூதாவுக்கும் தாமாருக்கும் பிறந்த புதல்வர்கள் பெரேட்சும் செராகும்; பெரேட்சின் மகன் எட்சரோன்; எட்சரோனின் மகன் இராம். இராமின் மகன் அம்மினதாபு; அம்மினதாபின் மகன் நகசோன்; நகசோனின் மகன் சல்மோன். சல்மோனுக்கும் இராகாபுக்கும் பிறந்த மகன் போவாசு; போவாசுக்கும் ரூத்துக்கும் பிறந்த மகன் ஓபேது; ஓபேதின் மகன் ஈசாய். ஈசாயின் மகன் தாவீது அரசர்.

பாபிலோனுக்குச் சிறைப்பிடித்துச் செல்லப்பட்ட பின்பு எக்கோனியாவுக்குப் பிறந்த மகன் செயல்தியேல்; செயல்தியேலின் மகன் செருபாபேல். செருபாபேலின் மகன் அபியூது; அபியூதின் மகன் எலியாக்கிம்; எலியாக்கிமின் மகன் அசோர். அசோரின் மகன் சாதோக்கு; சாதோக்கின் மகன் ஆக்கிம்; ஆக்கிமின் மகன் எலியூது. எலியூதின் மகன் எலயாசர்; எலயாசரின் மகன் மாத்தான்; மாத்தானின் மகன் யாக்கோபு. யாக்கோபின் மகன் மரியாவின் கணவர் யோசேப்பு. மரியாவிடம் பிறந்தவரே கிறிஸ்து என்னும் இயேசு.

இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவின் பிறப்பையொட்டிய நிகழ்ச்சிகள்: அவருடைய தாய் மரியாவுக்கும் யோசேப்புக்கும் திருமண ஒப்பந்தம் செய்யப் பட்டிருந்தது. அவர்கள் கூடி வாழும் முன் மரியா கருவுற்றிருந்தது தெரிய வந்தது. அவர் தூய ஆவியால் கருவுற்றிருந்தார். அவர் கணவர் யோசேப்பு நேர்மையாளர். அவர் மரியாவை இகழ்ச்சிக்கு உள்ளாக்க விரும்பாமல் மறைவாக விலக்கிவிடத் திட்டமிட்டார்.

அவர் இவ்வாறு சிந்தித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கும்போது ஆண்டவரின் தூதர் அவருக்குக் கனவில் தோன்றி, “யோசேப்பே, தாவீதின் மகனே, உம் மனைவி மரியாவை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ள அஞ்ச வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் அவர் கருவுற்றிருப்பது தூய ஆவியால்தான். அவர் ஒரு மகனைப் பெற்றெடுப்பார். அவருக்கு இயேசு எனப் பெயரிடுவீர். ஏனெனில் அவர் தம் மக்களை அவர்களுடைய பாவங்களிலிருந்து மீட்பார்” என்றார்.

“இதோ! கன்னி கருவுற்று ஓர் ஆண்மகவைப் பெற்றெடுப்பார். அக்குழந்தைக்கு இம்மானுவேல் எனப் பெயரிடுவர்” என்று இறைவாக்கினர் வாயிலாக ஆண்டவர் உரைத்தது நிறைவேறவே இவை யாவும் நிகழ்ந்தன. இம்மானுவேல் என்றால் ‘கடவுள் நம்முடன் இருக்கிறார்’ என்பது பொருள்.
