உடனே அம்மனிதர் நலமடைந்தார்.

5 : 1-3a, 5-16

யூதர்களின் திருவிழா ஒன்று வந்தது. இயேசுவும் எருசலேமுக்குச் சென்றார். எருசலேமில் ஆட்டு வாயிலுக்கு அருகில் ஐந்து மண்டபங்கள் கொண்ட குளம் ஒன்று உண்டு. எபிரேய மொழியில் பெத்சதா என்பது அதன் பெயர். இம்மண்டபங்களில் உடல்நலமற்றோர், பார்வையற்றோர், கால் ஊனமுற்றோர், முடக்கு வாதமுற்றோர் ஆகியோர் திரளாய்ப்படுத்துக் கிடப்பர்.

முப்பத்தெட்டு ஆண்டுகளாய் உடல்நலமற்றிருந்த ஒருவரும் அங்கு இருந்தார். இயேசு அவரைக் கண்டு, நெடுங்காலமாக அவர் அந்நிலையில் இருந்துள்ளதை அறிந்து, “நலம்பெற விரும்புகிறீரா?” என்று அவரிடம் கேட்டார். “ஐயா, தண்ணீர் கலங்கும்போது என்னைக் குளத்தில் இறக்கிவிட ஆள் இல்லை. நான் போவதற்கு முன் வேறு ஒருவர் இறங்கிவிடுகிறார்” என்று உடல்நலமற்றவர் அவரிடம் கூறினார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “எழுந்து உம்முடைய படுக்கையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு நடந்து செல்லும்” என்றார். உடனே அம்மனிதர் நலமடைந்து தம்முடைய படுக்கையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு நடந்தார்.

அன்று ஓய்வுநாள். யூதர்கள் குணமடைந்தவரிடம், “ஓய்வுநாளாகிய இன்று படுக்கையை எடுத்துச் செல்வது சட்டத்திற்கு எதிரான செயல்” என்றார்கள். அவர் மறுமொழியாக, “என்னை நலமாக்கியவரே ‘உம்முடைய படுக்கையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு நடந்து செல்லும்’ என்று என்னிடம் கூறினார்” என்றார். “ ‘படுக்கையை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு நடந்து செல்லும்’ என்று உம்மிடம் கூறியவர் யார்?” என்று அவர்கள் கேட்டார்கள். ஆனால் நலமடைந்தவருக்கு அவர் யாரெனத் தெரியவில்லை. ஏனெனில் அவ்விடத்தில் மக்கள் கூட்டமாய் இருந்ததால் இயேசு அங்கிருந்து நழுவிப் போய்விட்டார்.

பின்னர் இயேசு நலமடைந்தவரைக் கோவிலில் கண்டு, “இதோ பாரும், நீர் நலமடைந்துள்ளீர்; இதைவிடக் கேடானது எதுவும் உமக்கு நிகழாதிருக்க இனிப் பாவம் செய்யாதீர்” என்றார். அவர் போய், தம்மை நலமாக்கியவர் இயேசு என்று யூதர்களுக்கு அறிவித்தார். ஓய்வுநாளில் இயேசு இதைச் செய்ததால் யூதர்கள் அவரைத் துன்புறுத்தினார்கள்.

கடவுள் நமக்கு அடைக்கலமும் ஆற்றலுமாய் உள்ளார்; இடுக்கணுற்ற வேளைகளில் நமக்கு உற்ற துணையும் அவரே.

ஆகையால், நிலவுலகம் நிலைகுலைந்தாலும், மலைகள் ஆழ்கடலில் அதிர்ந்து நடுங்கினாலும் எங்களுக்கு அச்சமென்பதே இல்லை. - பல்லவி

ஆறு ஒன்று உண்டு, அதன் கால்வாய்கள் உன்னதரான கடவுளின் திரு உறைவிடமான நகருக்குப் பேரின்பம் அளிக்கின்றன.

அந்நகரின் நடுவில் கடவுள் இருக்கின்றார்; அது ஒருபோதும் நிலைகுலையாது; வைகறைதோறும் கடவுள் துணை அதற்கு உண்டு. - பல்லவி

படைகளின் ஆண்டவர் நம்மோடு இருக்கின்றார்; யாக்கோபின் கடவுளே நமக்கு அரண்.

கடவுளே! தூயதோர் உள்ளத்தை என்னுள்ளே படைத்தருளும். உம் மீட்பின் மகிழ்ச்சியை மீண்டும் எனக்கு அளித்தருளும்.

அந்நாள்களில்

வானதூதர் என்னைக் கோவிலின் நுழைவாயிலுக்கு மீண்டும் அழைத்து வந்தார். அங்கு நான் கோவிலின் வாயிற்படியின் கீழிருந்து கிழக்கு நோக்கித் தண்ணீர் வருவதைக் கண்டேன். ஏனெனில், கோவில் கிழக்கு நோக்கி இருந்தது. தண்ணீர், கோவில் மற்றும் பீடத்தின் தெற்குப் பக்கத்திலிருந்து வந்தது. அவர் என்னை வடக்கு வாயில் வழியாய் அழைத்து வந்து கிழக்கு நோக்கிய வெளிவாயிலின் வெளிப்பகுதிக்கு இட்டுச் சென்றார். இதோ! தண்ணீர் தெற்குப் பகுதியிலிருந்து பாய்ந்துகொண்டிருந்தது.

அம்மனிதர் கையில் ஓர் அளவு நூலைப் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு கிழக்கு நோக்கிச் சென்று, ஆயிர முழம் அளந்தார். பின்னர் கணுக்காலளவு ஆழமுள்ள அத்தண்ணீர் வழியாய் என்னை அழைத்துச் சென்றார். அவர் மேலும் ஆயிர முழம் அளந்து என்னை முழங்காலளவு ஆழமுள்ள தண்ணீரில் அழைத்துச் சென்றார். மேலும் ஆயிர முழம் அளந்து இடுப்பளவு தண்ணீரில் என்னை நடத்திச் சென்றார். அவர் மேலும் ஆயிர முழம் அளந்தார். ஆனால் இப்போது அது ஆறாக ஓடியது. எனவே என்னால் அதைக் கடக்க இயலவில்லை. ஏனெனில் தண்ணீர் உயர்ந்து நீந்திப் போகுமளவுக்கு ஆழமுடையதாய், யாராலும் நடந்து கடக்க முடியாத ஆறாய் ஓடியது. அவர் என்னிடம், ‘மானிடா! இதைப் பார்த்தாயா?’ என்றார். பின்னர் அவர் என்னை ஆற்றின் கரைக்கு அழைத்துச் சென்றார்.

நான் அங்கே சென்றபோது ஆற்றின் இரு கரைகளிலும் எண்ணற்ற மரங்கள் நிற்கக் கண்டேன். அவர் என்னிடம் உரைத்தது: “இத்தண்ணீர் கிழக்குப் பகுதியை நோக்கிப் பாய்ந்து அராபாவில் சேர்கிறது. அங்கு அது கடலோடு கலக்கிறது. அது கடலோடு கலக்கையில் அத்தண்ணீர் அங்கு நல்ல தண்ணீராக மாறும். இந்த ஆறு பாயுமிடமெல்லாம் திரளான உயிரினங்கள் வாழும். அங்கு ஏராளமான மீன்கள் இருக்கும். ஏனெனில் இத்தண்ணீர் பாய்ந்து அங்குள்ள நீரை நல்ல நீராய் மாற்றும். எனவே அது பாயுமிடமெல்லாம் யாவும் உயிர் வாழும்.

பலவகையான பழமரங்கள் ஆற்றின் இருமருங்கிலும் வளரும்; அவற்றின் இலைகள் உதிரா; அவற்றில் கனிகள் குறையா. ஒவ்வொரு மாதமும் அவை கனி கொடுக்கும்; ஏனெனில் தூயகத்திலிருந்து தண்ணீர் அவற்றிற்குப் பாய்கின்றது. அவற்றின் கனிகள் உணவாகவும் இலைகள் மருந்தாகவும் பயன்படும்.”

"Immediately the man was healed" 

A Reading From The Holy Gospel According To John (5, 1-16) 

On the occasion of a Jewish holiday, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. However, in Jerusalem, near the Sheep Gate, there is a swimming pool which in Hebrew is called Bethzatha. It has five colonnades, under which lay a crowd of sick, blind, lame and helpless. There was a man there that had been sick thirty-eight years. Jesus, seeing him lying there, and hearing that he had been in this condition for a long time, said to him: “Do you want to be healed? The patient replied: "Lord, I have no one to plunge me into the pool when the water is boiling; and while I go, another descends before me. "Jesus said to him:" Get up, take your stretcher, and walk. And immediately the man was healed. He took his stretcher: he was walking! Now that day was a Sabbath day. The Jews therefore said to this man whom Jesus had restored to his feet: “It is the Sabbath! You are not allowed to carry your stretcher. He replied: "The one who healed me, it was he who said to me: 'Take your stretcher and walk!' They asked him: "Who is the man who said to you, 'Take your stretcher and walk'? But the one who had been restored did not know who it was; in fact, Jesus had moved away, for there was a crowd there.

Later, Jesus finds him in the Temple and says to him: “Here you are healed. Stop sinning, something worse could happen to you. The man went to tell the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. And these persecuted Jesus because he had done this on the Sabbath day.

God is for us refuge and strength,

The River, its arms rejoice the city of God,

the holiest of the abodes of the Most High.

God stands there: it is unshakeable;

Reading from the book of the prophet Ezekiel (47, 1-9.12) 

In those days, during a vision received from the Lord, the man brought me back to the entrance of the House, and behold, under the threshold of the House water was gushing towards the east, since the facade of the House was on the east side.

The water was coming down from under the right side of the House, south of the altar. The man took me out the north door and walked me around the outside, to the east door, and again the water was flowing on the right side. The man went eastward, a line in his hand, and he measured a distance of a thousand cubits; then he made me cross the water: I was up to my ankles. He measured another thousand cubits and made me cross the water: I was up to my knees. He measured another thousand cubits and took me across: I was up to my kidneys. He measured a thousand more: it was a torrent that I could not cross; the water had swelled, it would have been necessary to swim: it was an impassable torrent. So he said to me: "Have you seen, son of man? Then he led me back to the edge of the stream. When he brought me back

He said to me: “This water flows towards the region of the East, it goes down into the Jordan Valley, and flows into the Dead Sea, whose waters it cleanses. In any place where the torrent arrives, all the animals will be able to live and flourish. The fish will be very abundant, for this water cleanses everything it enters, and life appears wherever the torrent arrives. At the edge of the torrent, on both banks, all kinds of fruit trees will grow; their foliage will not wither and their fruit will not fail. Each month they will bear new fruit, for this water comes from the sanctuary. The fruits will be food, and the leaves will be medicine. "
