நீர் எங்கே சென்றாலும் நானும் உம்மைப் பின்பற்றுவேன்.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு சீடர்களோடு வழி நடந்தபோது ஒருவர் அவரை நோக்கி, “நீர் எங்கே சென்றாலும் நானும் உம்மைப் பின்பற்றுவேன்” என்றார்.

இயேசு அவரிடம், “நரிகளுக்குப் பதுங்குக் குழிகளும், வானத்துப் பறவைகளுக்குக் கூடுகளும் உண்டு, மானிட மகனுக்கோ தலை சாய்க்கக்கூட இடமில்லை” என்றார்.

இயேசு மற்றொருவரை நோக்கி, “என்னைப் பின்பற்றி வாரும்” என்றார். அவர், “முதலில் நான் போய் என் தந்தையை அடக்கம் செய்துவிட்டுவர அனுமதியும்” என்றார். இயேசு அவரைப் பார்த்து, “இறந்தோரைப் பற்றிக் கவலை வேண்டாம். அவர்கள் அடக்கம் செய்யப்படுவார்கள். நீர் போய் இறையாட்சியைப் பற்றி அறிவியும்” என்றார்.

வேறொருவரும், “ஐயா, உம்மைப் பின்பற்றுவேன்; ஆயினும் முதலில் நான் போய் என் வீட்டில் உள்ளவர்களிடம் விடைபெற்று வர அனுமதியும்” என்றார். இயேசு அவரை நோக்கி, “கலப்பையில் கை வைத்தபின் திரும்பிப் பார்ப்பவர் எவரும் இறையாட்சிக்கு உட்படத் தகுதியுள்ளவர் அல்ல” என்றார்.

உமது பார்வையில் தயவு கிடைத்தால், என் மூதாதையரின் கல்லறைகளைக் கட்டி எழுப்ப என்னை அனுப்பும்.

நெகேமியா நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 2: 1-8

மன்னர் அர்த்தக்சஸ்தாவின் இருபதாம் ஆட்சி ஆண்டில், நீசான் மாதத்தில் அவரது முன்னிலையில் திராட்சை இரசம் வைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. நெகேமியாவாகிய நான் திராட்சை இரசத்தை எடுத்து மன்னருக்குக் கொடுத்தேன். அப்பொழுது அவர் முன்னிலையில் நான் துயருற்றவனாய் இருந்தேன்.

மன்னர் என்னைப் பார்த்து, “ஏன் உன் முகம் வாடியுள்ளது? நீ நோயுற்றவனாகத் தெரியவில்லையே! இது மன வேதனையே அன்றி வேறொன்றுமில்லை” என்றார்.

நானோ மிகவும் அஞ்சினேன். நான் மன்னரை நோக்கி, “மன்னரே! நீர் நீடூழி வாழ்க! என் மூதாதையரின் கல்லறைகள் இருக்கும் நகர் பாழ்பட்டுக் கிடக்கும்போது, அதன் வாயில்கள் தீக்கு இரையாக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும்போது, என் முகம் எப்படி வாடாமல் இருக்கும்?” என்றேன்.

அதற்கு மன்னர் என்னை நோக்கி, “உனக்கு என்ன வேண்டும்?” என்றார். அப்பொழுது நான் விண்ணகக் கடவுளிடம் வேண்டினேன். நான் மன்னரைப் பார்த்து, “நீர் மனம் வைத்தால், உமது பார்வையில் தயவு கிடைத்தால், என் மூதாதையரின் கல்லறைகளைக் கொண்டுள்ள யூதாவின் நகரைக் கட்டி எழுப்ப என்னை அனுப்பும்” என்று கூறினேன்.

அப்பொழுது மன்னரும் அவர் அருகில் அமர்ந்திருந்த அரசியும் என்னைப் பார்த்து, “உன் பயணத்திற்கு எத்தனை நாள்கள் ஆகும்? எப்பொழுது நீ திரும்பி வருவாய்?” என்று கேட்டனர். மன்னர் என்னை அனுப்ப விரும்பியதால், திரும்பி வரும் காலத்தை அவரிடம் குறிப்பிட்டேன்.

மீண்டும் மன்னரைப் பார்த்து, “உமக்கு மனமிருந்தால், நான் யூதாவை அடையும் வரை யூப்பிரத்தீசின் அக்கரைப் பகுதியிலுள்ள ஆளுநர்கள் எனக்கு வழிவிட வேண்டுமென மடல்கள் கொடுத்தருளும். கோவிலின் கொத்தளக் கதவுகளுக்கும் நகர் மதிலின் கதவுகளுக்கும், நான் தங்க இருக்கும் வீட்டின் கதவுகளுக்கும் குறுக்குச் சட்டங்கள் அமைக்கத் தேவையான மரங்களை எனக்குக் கொடுக்கும்படி மன்னரின் காடுகளுக்குக் காவலரான ஆசாபுக்கு மடல் கொடுத்தருளும்” என்றேன்.

கடவுளின் அருட்கரம் என்னோடு இருந்ததால், மன்னரும் அவ்வாறே கொடுத்தார்.

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 9:57-62 

As Jesus and his disciples travelled along they met a man on the road who said to him, ‘I will follow you wherever you go.’ Jesus answered, ‘Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’

  Another to whom he said, ‘Follow me’, replied, ‘Let me go and bury my father first.’ But he answered, ‘Leave the dead to bury their dead; your duty is to go and spread the news of the kingdom of God.’

  Another said, ‘I will follow you, sir, but first let me go and say goodbye to my people at home.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Once the hand is laid on the plough, no one who looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.’

A reading from the book of Nehemiah 2:1-8 

In the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, the wine being my concern, I took up the wine and offered it to the king. Now I had never been downcast before. So the king said, ‘Why is your face so sad? You are not sick, surely? This must be a sadness of the heart.’ A great fear came over me and I said to the king, ‘May the king live for ever! How could my face be other than sad when the city where the tombs of my ancestors are lies in ruins, and its gates have been burnt down?’ ‘What’ the king asked ‘is your request?’ I called on the God of heaven and made this reply to the king, ‘If it pleases the king, and if you are satisfied with your servant, give me leave to go to Judah, to the city of my ancestors’ tombs, and rebuild it.’ The king, with the queen sitting there beside him, said, ‘How long will your journey take, and when will you return?’ So I named a date that seemed acceptable to the king and he gave me leave to go. I spoke to the king once more, ‘If it please the king, could letters be given me for the governors of Transeuphrates to allow me to pass through to Judah? And also a letter for Asaph, keeper of the king’s park, to supply me with timber for the gates of the citadel of the Temple, for the city walls and for the house I am to occupy?’ This the king granted me, for the kindly favour of my God was with me.
