திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் ஆண்டவர் வழியை ஆயத்தம் செய்யும் தூதர்.

யோவானிடமிருந்து வந்த தூதர்கள் திரும்பிச் சென்ற பிறகு, இயேசு மக்கள் கூட்டத்திடம் யோவானைப் பற்றிப் பேசத் தொடங்கினார்: “நீங்கள் எதைப் பார்க்கப் பாலைநிலத்திற்குப் போனீர்கள்? காற்றினால் அசையும் நாணலையா? இல்லையேல் யாரைப் பார்க்கப் போனீர்கள்? மெல்லிய ஆடை அணிந்த ஒரு மனிதரையா? பளிச்சிடும் ஆடை அணிந்து செல்வச் செழிப்பில் வாழ்வோர் அரச மாளிகைகளில் அல்லவா இருக்கின்றனர்! பின்னர் யாரைத்தான் பார்க்கப் போனீர்கள்? இறைவாக்கினரையா? ஆம், இறைவாக்கினரை விட மேலானவரையே என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்.

‘இதோ! என் தூதனை உமக்குமுன் அனுப்புகிறேன். அவர் உமக்குமுன் உமது வழியை ஆயத்தம் செய்வார்’ என இவரைப் பற்றித்தான் மறைநூலில் எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளது. மனிதராய்ப் பிறந்தவர்களுள் யோவானை விடப் பெரியவர் ஒருவருமில்லை. ஆயினும் இறையாட்சிக்கு உட்பட்டோருள் மிகச் சிறியவரும் அவரினும் பெரியவரே என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்.”

திரண்டிருந்த மக்கள் அனைவரும் வரிதண்டுவோரும் இதைக் கேட்டு, கடவுளுடைய நீதிநெறியை ஏற்று யோவானிடமிருந்து திருமுழுக்குப் பெற்றனர். ஆனால் பரிசேயரும் திருச்சட்ட அறிஞரும் அவர் கொடுத்த திருமுழுக்கைப் பெறாது, தங்களுக்கென்று கடவுள் வகுத்திருந்த திட்டத்தைப் புறக்கணித்தார்கள்.

இது கிறிஸ்து வழங்கும் நற்செய்தி.

கைவிடப்பட்டு மனமுடைந்துபோன துணைவிபோல் இருக்கும் உன்னை ஆண்டவர் அழைத்துள்ளார்.

பிள்ளை பெறாத மலடியே, மகிழ்ந்து பாடு; பேறுகால வேதனை அறியாதவளே, அக்களித்துப் பாடி முழங்கு; ஏனெனில் கைவிடப் பட்டவளின் பிள்ளைகள் கணவனோடு வாழ்பவளின் பிள்ளைகளைவிட ஏராளமானவர்கள், என்கிறார் ஆண்டவர். உன் கூடாரத்தின் இடத்தை விரிவாக்கு; உன் குடியிருப்புகளின் தொங்கு திரைகளைப் பரப்பிவிடு; உன் கயிறுகளைத் தாராளமாய் நீட்டிவிடு; உன் முளைகளை உறுதிப்படுத்து. வலப்புறமும் இடப்புறமும் நீ விரிந்து பரவுவாய்; உன் வழிமரபினர் வேற்றுநாடுகளை உடைமையாக்கிக்கொள்வர்; பாழடைந்து கிடக்கும் நகர்களிலும் அவர்கள் குடியேற்றப்படுவர்.

ஏனெனில், கைவிடப்பட்டு மனமுடைந்துபோன துணைவிபோலும், தள்ளப்பட்ட இளம் மனைவிபோலும் இருக்கும் உன்னை ஆண்டவர் அழைத்துள்ளார், என்கிறார் உன் கடவுள். நொடிப்பொழுதே நான் உன்னைக் கைவிட்டேன்; ஆயினும் பேரிரக்கத்தால் உன்னை மீண்டும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்வேன்.

பொங்கியெழும் சீற்றத்தால் இமைப்பொழுதே என் முகத்தை உனக்கு மறைத்தேன்; ஆயினும் என்றும் உள்ள பேரன்பால் உனக்கு இரக்கம் காட்டுவேன், என்கிறார் ஆண்டவர்.

எனக்கு இது நோவாவின் நாள்களில் நடந்ததுபோல் உள்ளது; நோவாவின் காலத்துப் பெருவெள்ளம் இனி மண்ணுலகின்மேல் பாய்ந்து வராது என்று நான் ஆணையிட்டேன்; அவ்வாறே உன்மீதும் சீற்றம் அடையமாட்டேன் என்றும், உன்னைக் கண்டிக்கமாட்டேன் என்றும் ஆணையிட்டுக் கூறியுள்ளேன். மலைகள் நிலை சாயினும் குன்றுகள் இடம் பெயரினும் உன்மீது நான் கொண்ட பேரன்போ நிலை சாயாது; என் சமாதான உடன்படிக்கையோ அசைவுறாது, என்கிறார் உனக்கு இரக்கம் காட்டும் ஆண்டவர்.

After John's messengers had left,

Jesus began to say to the crowds about John:

“What did you go to see in the desert?

a reed shaken by the wind?

    So what did you go to see?

a man dressed in fine clothes?

But those who wear lavish clothes

and live in luxury

are in royal palaces.

    So what did you go to see?

a prophet ?

Yes, I tell you; and much more than a prophet!

    It is of him that it is written:

Behold, I am sending my messenger ahead of you,

to prepare the way before you.

    I say to you:

Among those born of a woman,

no one is taller than John;

and yet the least in the kingdom of God

is greater than he.

    All the people who listened to John,

including the tax collectors,

on receiving baptism from him,

recognized that God was just.

    But the Pharisees and doctors of the law,

by not receiving his baptism,

rejected the purpose that God had for them. »

            – Let us acclaim the Word of God.

“Like an abandoned woman, the Lord calls you back” (Is 54, 1-10)

Reading from the Book of the Prophet Isaiah

Cry for joy, barren woman,

you who have not given birth;

rejoice, burst into cries of joy,

you who have not known pain!

For the sons of the forsaken will be more

than the sons of the bride,

– says the Lord.

    Expand the space of your tent,

deploy the canvas of your home without hesitation,

lengthen your ropes, strengthen your stakes!

    For you will spread north and south.

Your descendants will dispossess the nations,

they will populate deserted cities.

    Do not be afraid,

you will know no more shame;

disregard outrages,

you will no longer have to blush,

you will forget the shame of your youth,

you will no longer remember the dishonor of your widowhood.

    For your husband is the One who made you,

his name is “The Lord of the universe”.

Your redeemer is the Saint of Israel,

he is called “God of all the earth”.

    Yes, like an abandoned, overwhelmed woman,

the Lord calls you back.

Do we reject the woman of our youth?

– says your God.

    For a short moment, I had abandoned you,

but in my great tenderness, I will bring you back.

    When my anger boiled over,

But in my eternal fidelity,

I show you my tenderness,

– says the Lord, your Redeemer.

    I will do as in the days of Noah,

when I swore that the waters

would no longer overwhelm the earth:

so I swear never to be angry with you again,

    Even if the mountains parted,

if the hills shook,

my faithfulness would not depart from you,

my covenant of peace would not be shaken,
