"The Lord God sent him away from the garden of Eden, to work the land"
from the book of Genesis (3, 9-24)
When the man had disobeyed God, the Lord God called him and said to him: “Where are you then? He replied: "I heard your voice in the garden, I got scared because I am naked, and I hid myself. "The Lord continued:" Who told you that you were naked? Would you have eaten from the tree that I forbade you to eat? The man replied, "The woman you gave me, she gave me the fruit of the tree, and I ate it." "The Lord God said to the woman," What did you do there? The woman replied, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate. Then the Lord God said to the serpent: "Because you have done this, you will be cursed among all the animals and all the beasts of the field. You will crawl on your stomach and eat dust every day of your life. I will put a hostility between you and the woman, between your descendants and their descendants: the latter will bruise your head, and you will bruise their heel. The Lord God then said to the woman: "I will multiply the pain of your pregnancies; it is in pain that you will give birth to children. Your desire will lead you to your husband, and he will rule over you. "He finally said to the man:" Because you listened to your wife's voice, and you ate the fruit of the tree that I had forbidden you to eat: curse the ground for your sake! It is in the pain that you will draw your food from it, all the days of your life. Of himself he will give you thorns and thistles, but you will have your food by cultivating the fields. It is by the sweat of your face that you will earn your bread, until you return to the land from which you came; for dust you are, and to dust you will return. " it will bruise your head, and you will bruise its heel. The man called his wife Eve (that is, the living one), because she was the mother of all living. The Lord God made tunics of skins for the man and his wife and clothed them. Then the Lord God declared: “Behold, man has become like one of us through the knowledge of good and evil! Now, let's not allow him to stretch out his hand, to also pluck the fruit of the tree of life, to eat from it and live forever! So the Lord God sent him away from the garden of Eden, to work the land from which he had been taken. He expelled the man, and he posted, in the east of the garden of Eden, the Kerubim, armed with a dazzling sword, to guard the access to the tree of life.
The Word of the Lord.
