ஜூலை 18 :  நற்செய்தி வாசகம்

தீர்ப்பு நாளில் தீருக்கும் சீதோனுக்கும் கிடைக்கும் தண்டனையைவிட உங்களுக்குக் கிடைக்கும் தண்டனை கடினமாகவே இருக்கும்.

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு வல்ல செயல்கள் பல நிகழ்த்திய நகரங்கள் மனம் மாறவில்லை. எனவே அவர் அவற்றைக் கண்டிக்கத் தொடங்கினார். “கொராசின் நகரே, ஐயோ! உனக்குக் கேடு! பெத்சாய்தா நகரே, ஐயோ! உனக்குக் கேடு! ஏனெனில் உங்களிடையே செய்யப்பட்ட வல்ல செயல்கள் தீர், சீதோன் நகரங்களில் செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தால் அங்குள்ள மக்கள் முன்பே சாக்கு உடை உடுத்திச் சாம்பல் பூசி மனம் மாறியிருப்பர். தீர்ப்பு நாளில் தீருக்கும் சீதோனுக்கும் கிடைக்கும் தண்டனையைவிட உங்களுக்குக் கிடைக்கும் தண்டனை கடினமாகவே இருக்கும் என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்.

கப்பர்நாகுமே, நீ வானளாவ உயர்த்தப்படுவாயோ? இல்லை, பாதாளம் வரை தாழ்த்தப்படுவாய். ஏனெனில் உன்னிடம் செய்யப்பட்ட வல்ல செயல்கள் சோதோமில் செய்யப்பட்டிருந்தால் அது இன்றுவரை நிலைத்திருக்குமே! தீர்ப்பு நாளில் சோதோமுக்குக் கிடைக்கும் தண்டனையைவிட உனக்குக் கிடைக்கும் தண்டனை கடினமாகவே இருக்கும் என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்றார்.

‘நீரிலிருந்து நான் இவனை எடுத்தேன்’ என்று கூறி, அவள் அவனுக்கு ‘மோசே’ என்று பெயரிட்டாள்.

விடுதலைப் பயண நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 2: 1-15

அந்நாள்களில்

லேவி குலத்தவர் ஒருவர் லேவி குலப் பெண்ணொருத்தியை மணம் செய்துகொண்டார். அவள் கருவுற்று ஓர் ஆண் மகவை ஈன்றெடுத்தாள்; அது அழகாயிருந்தது என்று கண்டாள்; மூன்று மாதங்களாக அதனை மறைத்து வைத்திருந்தாள். இதற்கு மேல் அதனை மறைத்து வைக்க இயலாததால், அதனுக்காகக் கோரைப் புல்லால் பேழை ஒன்று செய்து அதன்மீது நிலக்கீல், கீல் இவற்றைப் பூசினாள்; குழந்தையை அதனுள் வைத்து நைல் நதிக் கரையிலுள்ள நாணல்களுக்கிடையில் விட்டு வைத்தாள். அதற்கு என்ன ஆகுமோ என்பதை அறிந்து கொள்ளக் குழந்தையின் சகோதரி தூரத்தில் நின்று கொண்டிருந்தாள்.

அப்போது பார்வோனின் மகள் நைல் நதியில் நீராட இறங்கிச் சென்றாள். அவள் தோழியரோ நைல் நதிக்கரையில் உலாவிக் கொண்டிருந்தனர். அவள் நாணலிடையே பேழையைக் கண்டு தன் தோழி ஒருத்தியை அனுப்பி அதை எடுத்தாள்; அதைத் திறந்தபோது ஓர் ஆண் குழந்தையைக் கண்டாள்; அது அழுதுகொண்டிருந்தது. அதன் மேல் அவள் இரக்கம் கொண்டாள். “இது எபிரேயக் குழந்தைகளுள் ஒன்று” என்றாள் அவள். உடனே குழந்தையின் சகோதரி பார்வோன் மகளை நோக்கி, “உமக்குப் பதிலாகப் பாலூட்டி இக்குழந்தையை வளர்க்க, எபிரேயச் செவிலி ஒருத்தியை நான் சென்று அழைத்து வரட்டுமா?” என்று கேட்டாள். பார்வோனின் மகள் அவளை நோக்கி, “சரி. சென்று வா” என்றாள். அந்தப் பெண் சென்று குழந்தையின் தாயையே அழைத்து வந்தாள். பார்வோனின் மகள் அவளை நோக்கி, “இந்தக் குழந்தையை நீ எடுத்துச் செல். எனக்குப் பதிலாக நீ பாலூட்டி அதனை வளர்த்திடு. உனக்குக் கூலி கொடுப்பேன்"என்றாள். எனவே குழந்தையை எடுத்துச் சென்று அதனைப் பாலூட்டி வளர்த்தாள் அப்பெண். குழந்தை வளர்ந்தபின் அவள் பார்வோனின் மகளிடம் அவனைக் கொண்டுபோய் விட்டாள். அவள் அவனைத் தன் மகன் எனக் கொண்டாள். ‘நீரிலிருந்து நான் இவனை எடுத்தேன்’ என்று கூறி அவள் அவனுக்கு ‘மோசே’ என்று பெயரிட்டாள்.

அக்காலத்தில் மோசே வளர்ந்துவிட்ட போது தம் இனத்தவரிடம் சென்றிருந்தார்; அவர்களுடைய பாரச் சுமைகளையும் பார்த்தார்; மேலும், தம் இனத்தவனான எபிரேயன் ஒருவனை எகிப்தியன் ஒருவன் அடிப்பதையும் கண்டார்; சுற்றுமுற்றும் பார்த்து, யாருமே இல்லையெனக் கண்டு, அந்த எகிப்தியனை அடித்துக் கொன்று மணலுக்குள் புதைத்து விட்டார்.

அடுத்த நாள் அவர் வெளியே சென்றபோது, எபிரேயர் இருவருக்கு இடையே கைகலப்பு நடந்து கொண்டிருந்ததைக் கண்டார்; குற்றவாளியை நோக்கி, “உன் இனத்தவனை ஏன் அடிக்கிறாய்?” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவன், “எங்கள்மேல் உன்னைத் தலைவனாகவும் நடுவனாகவும் நியமித்தவன் எவன்? எகிப்தியனைக் கொன்றதுபோல் என்னையும் கொல்லவா நீ இப்படிப் பேசுகிறாய்?” என்று சொன்னான். இதனால் மோசே அச்சமுற்றார்; “நடந்தது தெரிந்துவிட்டது உறுதியே” என்று சொல்லிக் கொண்டார்!

இச்செய்தியைப் பார்வோன் கேள்வியுற்றபோது மோசேயைக் கொல்லத் தேடினான். எனவே மோசே பார்வோனிடமிருந்து தப்பியோடி, மிதியான் நாட்டில் குடியிருக்க வேண்டியதாயிற்று.

Jesus began to reproach the towns in which most of his miracles had been worked, because they refused to repent.

  ‘Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. And still, I tell you that it will not go as hard on Judgement day with Tyre and Sidon as with you. And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be exalted as high as heaven? You shall be thrown down to hell. For if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have been standing yet. And still, I tell you that it will not go as hard with the land of Sodom on Judgement day as with you.’

Pharaoh's daughter finds Moses among the bulrushes

A Reading from the book of Exodus 2:1-15.

There was a man of the tribe of Levi who had taken a woman of Levi as his wife. She conceived and gave birth to a son and, seeing what a fine child he was, she kept him hidden for three months. When she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him; coating it with bitumen and pitch, she put the child inside and laid it among the reeds at the river’s edge. His sister stood some distance away to see what would happen to him.

  Now Pharaoh’s daughter went down to bathe in the river, and the girls attending her were walking along by the riverside. Among the reeds she noticed the basket, and she sent her maid to fetch it. She opened it and looked, and saw a baby boy, crying; and she was sorry for him. ‘This is a child of one of the Hebrews’ she said. Then the child’s sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, ‘Shall I go and find you a nurse among the Hebrew women to suckle the child for you?’ ‘Yes, go,’ Pharaoh’s daughter said to her; and the girl went off to find the baby’s own mother. To her the daughter of Pharaoh said, ‘Take this child away and suckle it for me. I will see you are paid.’ So the woman took the child and suckled it. When the child grew up, she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter who treated him like a son; she named him Moses because, she said, ‘I drew him out of the water.’

  Moses, a man by now, set out at this time to visit his countrymen, and he saw what a hard life they were having; and he saw an Egyptian strike a Hebrew, one of his countrymen. Looking round he could see no one in sight, so he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. On the following day he came back, and there were two Hebrews, fighting. He said to the man who was in the wrong, ‘What do you mean by hitting your fellow countryman?’ ‘And who appointed you’ the man retorted, ‘to be prince over us, and judge? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?’ Moses was frightened. ‘Clearly that business has come to light’ he thought. When Pharaoh heard of the matter he would have killed Moses, but Moses fled from Pharaoh and made for the land of Midian.
