Anyone who welcomes a little child in my name welcomes me

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 18:1-5,10 

The disciples came to Jesus and said, ‘Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?’ So he called a little child to him and set the child in front of them. Then he said, ‘I tell you solemnly, unless you change and become like little children you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. And so, the one who makes himself as little as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

  ‘Anyone who welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. See that you never despise any of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven are continually in the presence of my Father in heaven.’

The immeasurable greatness of God

A Reading fom the Book of Job 38:1,12-21,40:3-5 

From the heart of the tempest the Lord gave Job his answer. He said:

Have you ever in your life given orders to the morning

  or sent the dawn to its post,

telling it to grasp the earth by its edges

  and shake the wicked out of it,

when it changes the earth to sealing clay

  and dyes it as a man dyes clothes;

stealing the light from wicked men

  and breaking the arm raised to strike?

Have you journeyed all the way to the sources of the sea,

  or walked where the Abyss is deepest?

Have you been shown the gates of Death

  or met the janitors of Shadowland?

Have you an inkling of the extent of the earth?

  Tell me all about it if you have!

Which is the way to the home of the light,

  and where does darkness live?

You could then show them the way to their proper places,

  or put them on the path to where they live!

If you know all this, you must have been born with them,

  you must be very old by now!

Job replied to the Lord:

My words have been frivolous: what can I reply?

  I had better lay my finger on my lips.

I have spoken once... I will not speak again;

  more than once... I will add nothing.

சீடர்கள் இயேசுவை அணுகி, “விண்ணரசில் மிகப் பெரியவர் யார்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள். அவர் ஒரு சிறு பிள்ளையை அழைத்து அவர்கள் நடுவில் நிறுத்தி, பின்வருமாறு கூறினார்: “நீங்கள் மனந்திரும்பிச் சிறு பிள்ளைகளைப் போல் ஆகாவிட்டால் விண்ணரசில் புகமாட்டீர்கள் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன். இந்தச் சிறு பிள்ளையைப் போலத் தம்மைத் தாழ்த்திக்கொள்பவரே விண்ணரசில் மிகப் பெரியவர். இத்தகைய சிறு பிள்ளை ஒன்றை என் பெயரால் ஏற்றுக் கொள்பவர் எவரும் என்னையே ஏற்றுக்கொள்கிறார்.

இச்சிறியோருள் ஒருவரையும் நீங்கள் இழிவாகக் கருத வேண்டாம்; கவனமாயிருங்கள்! இவர்களுடைய வான தூதர்கள் என் விண்ணகத் தந்தையின் திருமுன் எப்பொழுதும் இருக்கின்றார்கள் என நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்.”

1.ஆண்டவரே! நீர் என்னை ஆய்ந்து அறிந்திருக்கின்றீர்!

2.நான் அமர்வதையும் எழுவதையும் நீர் அறிந்திருக்கின்றீர்; என் நினைவுகளை எல்லாம் தொலையிலிருந்தே உய்த்துணர்கின்றீர்.

காலைப்பொழுதுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டதுண்டா? கடலின் ஊற்றுவரை நீ போனதுண்டா?

யோபு நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 38: 1, 12-21; 40: 3-4

ஆண்டவர் சூறாவளியினின்று யோபுக்கு அருளிய பதில்:

உன் வாழ்நாளில் காலைப்பொழுதுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டதுண்டா? வைகறையைத் தன் இடமறிய வைத்ததுண்டா? இவ்வாறு, அது வையக விளிம்பைத் தொட்டிழுத்து, பொல்லாதவரை அதனுள்ளிருந்து உதறித் தள்ளுமே! முத்திரையால் களிமண் உருப்பெறுவதுபோல் மண்ணகம் வண்ணம் ஏற்றிய ஆடையாயிற்று. அப்போது, கொடியவரிடமிருந்து ஒளி பறிக்கப்படும்; அடிக்க ஓங்கிய கை முறிக்கப்படும்.

கடலின் ஊற்றுவரை நீ போனதுண்டா? ஆழியின் அடியில் நீ உலவினதுண்டோ? சாவின் வாயில்கள் உனக்குக் காட்டப்பட்டனவோ? இருள் உலகின் கதவுகளைக் கண்டதுண்டோ நீ? அவனியின் பரப்பை நீ ஆய்ந்தறிந்ததுண்டா? அறிவிப்பாய் அதிலுள்ள அனைத்தையும் அறிந்திருந்தால்!

ஒளி உறைவிடத்திற்கு வழி எதுவோ! இருள் இருக்கும் இருப்பிடம் எங்கேயோ? அதன் எல்லைக்கு அதனை அழைத்துப் போவாயோ? அதன் உறைவிடத்திற்கு நேர்வழி அறிவாயோ! ஆம், அறிவாய்; அன்றே நீ பிறந்தவனன்றோ! ஆமாம்; ஆண்டுகளும் உனக்கு அதிகமன்றோ!

யோபு ஆண்டவர்க்குக் கூறிய மறுமொழி: இதோ! எளியேன் யான் இயம்புதற்குண்டோ? என் வாயைக் கையால் பொத்திக் கொள்வேன். ஒருமுறை பேசினேன்; மறுமொழி உரையேன்; மீண்டும் பேசினேன்; இனிப் பேசவே மாட்டேன்.
