இயேசு பேசிக்கொண்டிருந்தபோது பரிசேயர் ஒருவர் தம்மோடு உணவு அருந்தும்படி அவரைக் கேட்டுக்கொண்டார். அவரும் போய்ப் பந்தியில் அமர்ந்தார். உணவு அருந்துமுன்பு அவர் கை கழுவாததைக் கண்டு பரிசேயர் வியப்படைந்தார். ஆண்டவர் அவரை நோக்கிக் கூறியது: “பரிசேயரே, நீங்கள் கிண்ணத்தையும் தட்டையும் வெளிப்புறத்தில் தூய்மையாக்குகிறீர்கள். ஆனால் உங்களுக்கு உள்ளே கொள்ளையும் தீமையும் நிறைந்திருக்கின்றன. அறிவிலிகளே, வெளிப்புறத்தை உண்டாக்கியவரே உட்புறத்தையும் உண்டாக்கினார் அல்லவா! உட்புறத்தில் உள்ளவற்றைத் தர்மமாகக் கொடுங்கள். அப்பொழுது உங்களுக்கு அனைத்தும் தூய்மையாய் இருக்கும்.”

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 11:37-41 

Jesus had just finished speaking when a Pharisee invited him to dine at his house. He went in and sat down at the table. The Pharisee saw this and was surprised that he had not first washed before the meal. But the Lord said to him, ‘Oh, you Pharisees! You clean the outside of cup and plate, while inside yourselves you are filled with extortion and wickedness. Fools! Did not he who made the outside make the inside too? Instead, give alms from what you have and then indeed everything will be clean for you.’

அன்பின் வழியாய்ச் செயலாற்றும் நம்பிக்கை ஒன்றே இன்றியமையாதது.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் கலாத்தியருக்கு எழுதிய திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 5: 1-6

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

கிறிஸ்து அடிமை நிலையிலிருந்து நம்மை விடுவித்து நமக்கு உரிமை வாழ்வை அளித்துள்ளார்; அதில் நிலைத்திருங்கள். மீண்டும் அடிமைத்தளை எனும் நுகத்தை உங்கள்மேல் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளாதீர்கள்.

பவுலாகிய நான் உங்களுக்குச் சொல்லுகிறேன்: நீங்கள் விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொண்டால் கிறிஸ்துவால் உங்களுக்குப் பயனே இல்லை. விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொள்ளும் ஒவ்வொருவருக்கும் திருச்சட்டம் முழுவதையும் கடைப்பிடிக்கக் கடமை உண்டு என்பதை நான் மீண்டும் வற்புறுத்திக் கூறுகிறேன். திருச்சட்டம் சார்ந்த செயல்களால் இறைவனுக்கு ஏற்புடையவர் ஆக முயலும் நீங்கள் கிறிஸ்துவுடன் உறவற்றுப் போய் விட்டீர்கள்; அருளை இழந்துவிட்டீர்கள்.

ஆனால் நாம் தூய ஆவியின் துணையால் நம்பிக்கையின் வழியாய் இறைவனுக்கு ஏற்புடையவர் ஆக்கப்படுவோம் என்னும் எதிர்நோக்கு நிறைவேறும் என ஆவலோடு காத்திருக்கிறோம். கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவோடு இணைந்து வாழ்வோர், விருத்தசேதனம் செய்துகொண்டாலும் செய்து கொள்ளாவிட்டாலும், அவர்களுக்கு எப்பயனும் இல்லை. அன்பின் வழியாய்ச் செயலாற்றும் நம்பிக்கை ஒன்றே இன்றியமையாதது.

It is faith, not the Law, that justifies us

A Reading from the Letter of St.Paul to Galatians 5:1-6 

When Christ freed us, he meant us to remain free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery. It is I, Paul, who tell you this: if you allow yourselves to be circumcised, Christ will be of no benefit to you at all. With all solemnity I repeat my warning: Everyone who accepts circumcision is obliged to keep the whole Law. But if you do look to the Law to make you justified, then you have separated yourselves from Christ, and have fallen from grace. Christians are told by the Spirit to look to faith for those rewards that righteousness hopes for, since in Christ Jesus whether you are circumcised or not makes no difference – what matters is faith that makes its power felt through love.
