FIRST READING
"I remember the sincere faith that is in you"
from the second letter of Saint Paul the apostle to Timothy (1, 1-8)
Paul, apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life that we have in Christ Jesus, to Timothy, my beloved child. Grace to you, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Christ Jesus our Lord.
I am full of gratitude to God, to whom I worship with a pure conscience, following my ancestors, I give thanks by continually remembering you in my prayers, night and day. Remembering your tears, I have a very strong desire to see you again to be filled with joy. I remember the sincere faith that is in you: it was the one that first lived in Lois, your grandmother, and that of Eunice, your mother, and I am convinced that it is also the yours. This is why, I remind you, revive the free gift of God, this gift which has been in you since I laid my hands on you. For it is not a spirit of fear that God has given us, but a spirit of strength, love and weighting. Therefore do not be ashamed to bear witness to our Lord, and do not be ashamed of me, who am his prisoner; but, with the strength of God,
The Word of the Lord
_____ Or _____
I have been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel.
From the Epistle of the Apostle Saint Paul's letter to Titus 1, 1-5.
Paul, God's servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, writes to my true child Titus on the basis of faith common to all:
I am the Apostle to trust in God the Father and in our Redeemer Christ Jesus and to receive the true knowledge of God in harmony with eternity. This life, the God who does not lie, was promised before the times began. He revealed his message by preaching the good news at the right time. The task of proclaiming this good news has been entrusted to me by the command of our Redeemer God.
I have left you there on the island of Crete to arrange for the elders to do more, as I have commanded you.
The grace of the Lord.
