அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு தம் சீடருடன் பிலிப்புச் செசரியாவைச் சார்ந்த ஊர்களுக்குப் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றார். வழியில் அவர் தம் சீடரை நோக்கி, “நான் யார் என மக்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள்?” என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவர்கள் அவரிடம், “சிலர் திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் எனவும் வேறு சிலர் எலியா எனவும் மற்றும் சிலர் இறைவாக்கினருள் ஒருவர் எனவும் சொல்கின்றனர்” என்றார்கள். “ஆனால் நீங்கள் நான் யார் எனச் சொல்கிறீர்கள்?” என்று அவர் அவர்களைக் கேட்க, பேதுரு மறுமொழியாக, “நீர் மெசியா” என்று உரைத்தார். தம்மைப்பற்றி எவரிடமும் சொல்ல வேண்டாம் என்று அவர்களிடம் அவர் கண்டிப்பாய்க் கூறினார்.

“மானிட மகன் பலவாறு துன்பப்படவும் மூப்பர்கள், தலைமைக் குருக்கள், மறைநூல் அறிஞர்கள் ஆகியோரால் உதறித் தள்ளப்பட்டுக் கொலை செய்யப்படவும் மூன்று நாள்களுக்குப்பின் உயிர்த்தெழவும் வேண்டும்” என்று இயேசு அவர்களுக்குக் கற்பிக்கத் தொடங்கினார். இதையெல்லாம் அவர் வெளிப்படையாகவே சொன்னார். பேதுரு அவரைத் தனியே அழைத்துக் கடிந்துகொண்டார். ஆனால் இயேசு தம் சீடர்கள் பக்கம் திரும்பிப் பார்த்துப் பேதுருவிடம், “என் கண் முன் நில்லாதே, சாத்தானே. ஏனெனில் நீ கடவுளுக்கு ஏற்றவை பற்றி எண்ணாமல் மனிதருக்கு ஏற்றவை பற்றியே எண்ணுகிறாய்” என்று கடிந்துகொண்டார்.

வேற்றினத்தார் ஆண்டவரின் பெயருக்கு அஞ்சுவர்; பூவுலகின் மன்னர் யாவரும் அவரது மாட்சியைக் கண்டு மருள்வர்.

ஏனெனில் ஆண்டவர் சீயோனைக் கட்டியெழுப்புவார்; அங்கு அவர் தம் மாட்சியுடன் திகழ்வார்.

இனி வரவிருக்கும் தலைமுறைக்கென இது எழுதி வைக்கப்படட்டும்; படைக்கப்படவிருக்கும் மக்கள் ஆண்டவரைப் புகழட்டும்.

அவர் சிறைப்பட்டோரின் புலம்பலுக்குச் செவிசாய்ப்பார்; சாவுக்கெனக் குறிக்கப்பட்டவர்களை விடுவிப்பார்.

அந்நாள்களில்

கடவுள் நோவாவிற்கும் அவர் புதல்வருக்கும் ஆசி வழங்கிக் கூறியது: “பலுகிப் பெருகி மண்ணுலகை நிரப்புங்கள். மண்ணுலகின் விலங்குகள், வானத்துப் பறவைகள், நிலத்தில் ஊர்வன, கடலின் மீன்கள் அனைத்தும் உங்களுக்கு அஞ்சி நடுங்கட்டும்! அவை உங்கள் கைகளில் ஒப்படைக்கப் பட்டுள்ளன. நடமாடி உயிர்வாழும் அனைத்தும் உங்களுக்கு உணவாகட்டும். உங்களுக்குப் பசுமையான செடிகளை உணவாகத் தந்ததுபோல இவை எல்லாவற்றையும் தருகிறேன்.

இறைச்சியை அதன் உயிராகிய இரத்தத்தோடு உண்ணாதீர்கள். உங்கள் உயிராகிய இரத்தத்திற்கு நான் ஈடு கேட்பேன். உயிரினம் ஒவ்வொன்றிடமும் மனிதர் ஒவ்வொருவரிடமும் நான் ஈடு கேட்பேன். மனிதரின் உயிருக்காக அவரவர் சகோதரரிடம் உயிரை நான் ஈடாகக் கேட்பேன். ஒரு மனிதரின் இரத்தத்தை எவர் சிந்துகிறாரோ அவரது இரத்தம் வேறொரு மனிதரால் சிந்தப்படும். ஏனெனில், கடவுள் மனிதரைத் தம் உருவில் உண்டாக்கினார். நீங்கள் பலுகிப் பெருகிப் பன்மடங்காகி மண்ணுலகை நிரப்புங்கள்."

கடவுள் நோவாவிடமும் அவருடனிருந்த அவர் புதல்வரிடமும் கூறியது: “இதோ! நான் உங்களோடும் உங்களுக்குப் பின்வரும் உங்கள் வழி மரபினரோடும் பேழையிலிருந்து வெளிவந்து உங்களோடிருக்கும் உயிரினங்கள், பறவைகள், கால்நடைகள், நிலத்தில் உங்களுடன் உயிர்வாழும் விலங்கினங்கள் எல்லாவற்றோடும், மண்ணுலகில் உள்ள எல்லா உயிர்களோடும் என் உடன்படிக்கையை நிலைநாட்டுகிறேன். உங்களோடு என் உடன்படிக்கையை நிறுவுகிறேன்: சதையுள்ள எந்த உயிரும் வெள்ளப் பெருக்கால் மீண்டும் அழிக்கப்படாது. மண்ணுலகை அழிக்க இனி வெள்ளப் பெருக்கு வரவே வராது.” அப்பொழுது கடவுள், “எனக்கும் உங்களுக்கும் உங்களுடன் இருக்கும் உயிருள்ள எல்லாவற்றிற்கும் இடையே தலைமுறைதோறும் என்றென்றும் இருக்கும்படி, நான் ஏற்படுத்திய உடன்படிக்கையின் அடையாளமாக, என் வில்லை மேகத்தின் மேல் வைக்கிறேன். எனக்கும் மண்ணுலகுக்கும் இடையே உடன்படிக்கையின் அடையாளமாக இது இருக்கட்டும்” என்றார்.

The way you think is not God's way, but man's

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 8: 27-33 

Jesus and his disciples left for the villages round Caesarea Philippi. On the way he put this question to his disciples, ‘Who do people say I am?’ And they told him. ‘John the Baptist,’ they said ‘others Elijah; others again, one of the prophets.’ ‘But you,’ he asked ‘who do you say I am?’ Peter spoke up and said to him, ‘You are the Christ.’ And he gave them strict orders not to tell anyone about him.

  And he began to teach them that the Son of Man was destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and to be put to death, and after three days to rise again; and he said all this quite openly. Then, taking him aside, Peter started to remonstrate with him. But, turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said to him, ‘Get behind me, Satan! Because the way you think is not God’s way but man’s.’

The sign of the Covenant

A Reading from the Book of Genesis 9: 1-13 

God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, ‘Be fruitful, multiply and fill the earth. Be the terror and the dread of all the wild beasts and all the birds of heaven, of everything that crawls on the ground and all the fish of the sea; they are handed over to you. Every living and crawling thing shall provide food for you, no less than the foliage of plants. I give you everything, with this exception: you must not eat flesh with life, that is to say blood, in it. I will demand an account of your life-blood. I will demand an account from every beast and from man. I will demand an account of every man’s life from his fellow men.

‘He who sheds man’s blood

shall have his blood shed by man,

for in the image of God

man was made.

‘As for you, be fruitful, multiply, teem over the earth and be lord of it.’

  God spoke to Noah and his sons, ‘See, I establish my Covenant with you, and with your descendants after you; also with every living creature to be found with you, birds, cattle and every wild beast with you: everything that came out of the ark, everything that lives on the earth. I establish my Covenant with you: no thing of flesh shall be swept away again by the waters of the flood. There shall be no flood to destroy the earth again.’

  God said, ‘Here is the sign of the Covenant I make between myself and you and every living creature with you for all generations: I set my bow in the clouds and it shall be a sign of the Covenant between me and the earth.’
