ஆண்டவருக்காகப் பாதையைச் செம்மையாக்குங்கள்.

கடவுளின் மகனாகிய இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவைப் பற்றிய நற்செய்தியின் தொடக்கம்:

“இதோ, என் தூதனை உமக்குமுன் அனுப்புகிறேன்; அவர் உமக்கு வழியை ஆயத்தம் செய்வார். பாலைநிலத்தில் குரல் ஒன்று முழங்குகிறது: ஆண்டவருக்காக வழியை ஆயத்தமாக்குங்கள்; அவருக்காகப் பாதையைச் செம்மையாக்குங்கள்” என்று இறைவாக்கினர் எசாயாவின் நூலில் எழுதப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இதன்படியே திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் பாலைநிலத்துக்கு வந்து, பாவ மன்னிப்பு அடைய மனம் மாறித் திருமுழுக்குப் பெறுங்கள் என்று பறைசாற்றி வந்தார். யூதேயாவினர் அனைவரும் எருசலேம் நகரினர் யாவரும் அவரிடம் சென்றனர்; தங்கள் பாவங்களை அறிக்கையிட்டு யோர்தான் ஆற்றில் அவரிடம் திருமுழுக்குப் பெற்று வந்தனர். யோவான் ஒட்டக முடி ஆடையை அணிந்திருந்தார்; தோல் கச்சையை இடையில் கட்டியிருந்தார்; வெட்டுக்கிளியும் காட்டுத் தேனும் உண்டு வந்தார். அவர் தொடர்ந்து, “என்னைவிட வலிமைமிக்க ஒருவர் எனக்குப்பின் வருகிறார். குனிந்து அவருடைய மிதியடி வாரை அவிழ்க்கக்கூட எனக்குத் தகுதி இல்லை. நான் உங்களுக்குத் தண்ணீரால் திருமுழுக்குக் கொடுத்தேன்; அவரோ உங்களுக்குத் தூய ஆவியால் திருமுழுக்குக் கொடுப்பார்” எனப் பறைசாற்றினார்.

புதிய விண்ணுலகும் புதிய மண்ணுலகும் வரும் என நாம் எதிர்பார்த்துக்கொண்டிருக்கிறோம்.

திருத்தூதர் பேதுரு எழுதிய இரண்டாம் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 3: 8-14

அன்பார்ந்தவர்களே, நீங்கள் ஒன்றை மறந்துவிட வேண்டாம். ஆண்டவரின் பார்வையில் ஒரு நாள் ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் போலவும், ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகள் ஒரு நாள் போலவும் இருக்கின்றன. ஆண்டவர் தம் வாக்குறுதியை நிறைவேற்றக் காலந்தாழ்த்துவதாகச் சிலர் கருதுகின்றனர். ஆனால் அவர் அவ்வாறு காலந்தாழ்த்துவதில்லை. மாறாக, உங்களுக்காகப் பொறுமையோடிருக்கிறார். யாரும் அழிந்து போகாமல், எல்லாரும் மனம் மாறவேண்டுமென விரும்புகிறார்.

ஆனால் ஆண்டவருடைய நாள் திருடனைப்போல வரும். வானங்கள் பெருமுழக்கத்துடன் மறைந்தொழியும்; பஞ்சபூதங்கள் வெந்துருகிப் போகும். மண்ணுலகமும் அதன் செயல்களும் தீக்கிரையாகும். இவை யாவும் அழிந்து போகுமாதலால் நீங்கள் தூய, இறைப்பற்றுள்ள நடத்தையில் மிகவும் சிறந்து விளங்க வேண்டும்! கடவுளின் நாளை எதிர்பார்த்து அவர் வருகையை விரைவுபடுத்த வேண்டும். அந்நாளில் வானங்கள் எரிந்தழிந்து பஞ்சபூதங்கள் வெந்துருகிப் போகும். அவர் வாக்களித்தபடியே நீதி குடிகொண்டிருக்கும் புதிய விண்ணுலகும் புதிய மண்ணுலகும் வரும் என நாம் எதிர்பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம்.

ஆகவே, அன்பார்ந்தவர்களே, இவற்றை எதிர்பார்த்திருக்கும் உங்களை அவர் மாசுமறுவற்றவர்களாய், நல்லுறவு கொண்டவர்களாய்க் காணும் வகையில் முழு முயற்சி செய்யுங்கள்.

இறைவாக்கினர் எசாயா நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 40: 1-5, 9-11

“ஆறுதல் கூறுங்கள்; என் மக்களுக்குக் கனிமொழி கூறுங்கள்” என்கிறார் உங்கள் கடவுள். எருசலேமிடம் இனிமையாய்ப் பேசி, உரத்த குரலில் அவளுக்குச் சொல்லுங்கள்: “அவள் போராட்டம் நின்றுவிட்டது; அவள் குற்றம் மன்னிக்கப்பட்டது; அவள் தன் பாவங்கள் அனைத்திற்காகவும் ஆண்டவர் கையில் இருமடங்கு தண்டனை பெற்றுவிட்டாள்.”

சீயோனே! நற்செய்தி தருபவளே, உயர்மலைமேல் நின்றுகொள்! எருசலேமே! நற்செய்தி உரைப்பவளே! உன் குரலை எழுப்பு, அஞ்சாதே! ‘இதோ உன் கடவுள்’ என்று யூதா நகர்களிடம் முழங்கு! இதோ என் தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவர் ஆற்றலுடன் வருகின்றார்; அவர் ஆற்றலோடு ஆட்சிபுரிய இருக்கிறார். அவர்தம் வெற்றிப் பரிசைத் தம்முடன் எடுத்து வருகின்றார்; அவர் வென்றவை அவர்முன் செல்கின்றன. ஆயனைப் போல் தம் மந்தையை அவர் மேய்ப்பார்; ஆட்டுக்குட்டிகளைத் தம் கையால் ஒன்று சேர்ப்பார்; அவற்றைத் தம் தோளில் தூக்கிச் சுமப்பார்; சினையாடுகளைக் கவனத்துடன் நடத்திச் செல்வார்.

A voice cries in the wilderness: prepare a way for the Lord

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Mark 1:1-8 

The beginning of the Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. It is written in the book of the prophet Isaiah:

Look, I am going to send my messenger before you;

he will prepare your way.

A voice cries in the wilderness:

Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight.

and so it was that John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. All Judaea and all the people of Jerusalem made their way to him, and as they were baptised by him in the river Jordan they confessed their sins. John wore a garment of camel-skin, and he lived on locusts and wild honey. In the course of his preaching he said, ‘Someone is following me, someone who is more powerful than I am, and I am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals. I have baptised you with water, but he will baptise you with the Holy Spirit.’

We are waiting for the new heavens and the new earth

2 Peter 3:8-14 

There is one thing, my friends, that you must never forget: that with the Lord, ‘a day’ can mean a thousand years, and a thousand years is like a day. The Lord is not being slow to carry out his promises, as anybody else might be called slow; but he is being patient with you all, wanting nobody to be lost and everybody to be brought to change his ways. The Day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then with a roar the sky will vanish, the elements will catch fire and fall apart, the earth and all that it contains will be burnt up.

  Since everything is coming to an end like this, you should be living holy and saintly lives while you wait and long for the Day of God to come, when the sky will dissolve in flames and the elements melt in the heat. What we are waiting for is what he promised: the new heavens and new earth, the place where righteousness will be at home. So then, my friends, while you are waiting, do your best to live lives without spot or stain so that he will find you at peace.

‘Console my people, console them’

says your God.

that she has received from the hand of the Lord

double punishment for all her crimes.’

A voice cries, ‘Prepare in the wilderness

a way for the Lord.

Make a straight highway for our God

across the desert.

and the ridges a valley;

then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed
