அக்காலத்தில்

நிகழ்ந்தவற்றை எல்லாம் குறுநில மன்னன் ஏரோது கேள்வியுற்று மனம் குழம்பினான். ஏனெனில் சிலர், “இறந்த யோவான் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்பட்டார்” என்றனர். வேறு சிலர், “எலியா தோன்றியிருக்கிறார்” என்றனர். மற்றும் சிலர், “முற்காலத்து இறைவாக்கினருள் ஒருவர் உயிர்த்தெழுந்துள்ளார்” என்றனர்.

ஏரோது, “யோவானின் தலையை நான் வெட்டச் செய்தேனே! இவர் யாரோ? இவரைப் பற்றி இவ்வாறெல்லாம் கேள்விப்படுகிறேனே!” என்று சொல்லி இயேசுவைக் காண வாய்ப்புத் தேடிக்கொண்டிருந்தான்.

இறைவாக்கினர் ஆகாய் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 1: 1-8.

தாரியு அரசனது இரண்டாம் ஆட்சியாண்டின் ஆறாம் மாதம் முதல் நாளன்று இறைவாக்கினர் ஆகாய் வாயிலாக ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு அருளப்பட்டது. அது யூதாவின் ஆளுநரும் செயல்தியேலின் மகனுமான செருபாபேலுக்கும் தலைமைக் குருவும் யோசதாக்கின் மகனுமாகிய யோசுவாவுக்கும் அருளப்பட்ட செய்தி: “படைகளின் ஆண்டவர் கூறுவது இதுவே: ஆண்டவரது இல்லத்தை மீண்டும் கட்டியெழுப்புவதற்குரிய காலம் இன்னும் வரவில்லை என்று இந்த மக்கள் சொல்கிறார்கள்.

அப்பொழுது இறைவாக்கினர் ஆகாய் வாயிலாக ஆண்டவரது வாக்கு அருளப்பட்டது. இந்தக் கோவில் பாழடைந்து கிடக்கும் இந்நேரத்தில், நீங்கள் மட்டும் மாட மாளிகைகளில் குடியிருக்கலாமா? ஆதலால், இப்பொழுது படைகளின் ஆண்டவர் கூறுவதைக் கேளுங்கள்: ‘உங்களுக்கு நிகழ்ந்திருப்பதை நினைத்துப் பாருங்கள். நீங்கள் விதைத்தது மிகுதி. அறுத்ததோ குறைவு. நீங்கள் உண்கிறீர்கள்; ஆனால் உங்கள் வயிறு நிரம்புவதில்லை. நீங்கள் குடிக்கிறீர்கள்; ஆனால் நீங்கள் நிறைவு அடைவதில்லை. ஆடை அணிகிறீர்கள்; ஆனால் உங்களுள் எவருக்கும் குளிர் நீங்கவில்லை. வேலையாள் தான் கூலியாக வாங்கிய பணத்தைப் பொத்தலான பையில் போடுகிறான்.

Herod the tetrarch had heard about all that was being done by Jesus; and he was puzzled, because some people were saying that John had risen from the dead, others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life. But Herod said, ‘John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?’ And he was anxious to see Jesus.

'Rebuild the House'

Haggai 1:1-8 

In the second year of King Darius, on the first day of the sixth month, the word of the Lord was addressed through the prophet Haggai to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, high commissioner of Judah, and to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, as follows, ‘The Lord of Hosts says this, “This people says: The time has not yet come to rebuild the Temple of the Lord. (And the word of the Lord was addressed through the prophet Haggai, as follows:) Is this a time for you to live in your panelled houses, when this House lies in ruins? So now, the Lord of Hosts says this: Reflect carefully how things have gone for you. You have sown much and harvested little; you eat but never have enough, drink but never have your fill, put on clothes but do not feel warm. The wage earner gets his wages only to put them in a purse riddled with holes. So go to the hill country, fetch wood, and rebuild the House: I shall then take pleasure in it, and be glorified there, says the Lord.”’
