அக்காலத்தில்

திருமுழுக்கு யோவானின் தந்தை செக்கரியா தூய ஆவியால் ஆட்கொள்ளப்பட்டு உரைத்த இறைவாக்கு: “இஸ்ரயேலின் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவரைப் போற்றுவோம். ஏனெனில் அவர் தம் மக்களைத் தேடிவந்து விடுவித்தருளினார். தம் தூய இறைவாக்கினர் வாயினால் தொடக்க முதல் அவர் மொழிந்தபடியே அவர் தம் ஊழியராகிய தாவீதின் குடும்பத்தில் வல்லமை உடைய மீட்பர் ஒருவர் நமக்காகத் தோன்றச் செய்தார்; நம் பகைவரிடமிருந்தும் நம்மை வெறுப்போர் அனைவரின் பிடியிலிருந்தும் நம்மை மீட்பார். அவர் நம் மூதாதையருக்கு இரக்கம் காட்டி, தமது தூய உடன்படிக்கையையும், நம் தந்தையாகிய ஆபிரகாமுக்கு அவர் இட்ட ஆணையையும் நிறைவேற்ற நினைவு கூர்ந்தார். இவ்வாறு நாம் பகைவரின் பிடியிலிருந்து விடுவிக்கப்பட்டுத் தூய்மையோடும் நேர்மையோடும் வாழ்நாளெல்லாம் அச்சமின்றி அவர் திருமுன் பணி செய்யுமாறு வழிவகுத்தார்.

குழந்தாய், நீ உன்னத கடவுளின் இறைவாக்கினர் எனப்படுவாய்; ஏனெனில் பாவ மன்னிப்பால் வரும் மீட்பை அவர்தம் மக்களுக்கு அறிவித்து ஆண்டவருக்கான வழியைச் செம்மைப்படுத்த அவர் முன்னே செல்வாய். இருளிலும் இறப்பின் பிடியிலும் இருப்போர்க்கு ஒளிதரவும், நம்முடைய கால்களை அமைதி வழியில் நடக்கச் செய்யவும் நம் கடவுளின் பரிவுள்ளத்தாலும் இரக்கத்தாலும் விண்ணிலிருந்து விடியல் நம்மைத் தேடிவருகிறது.”

ஆண்டவரின் பேரன்பைப்பற்றி நான் என்றும் பாடுவேன்; நீர் உண்மையுள்ளவர் எனத் தலைமுறைதோறும் என் நாவால் அறிவிப்பேன்.

உமது பேரன்பு என்றென்றும் நிலைத்துள்ளது என்று அறிவிப்பேன்; உமது உண்மை வானைப்போல் உறுதியானது. - பல்லவி

நீர் உரைத்தது: ‛நான் தேர்ந்துகொண்டவனோடு உடன்படிக்கை செய்துகொண்டேன்; என் ஊழியன் தாவீதுக்கு ஆணையிட்டு நான் கூறியது:

அல்லேலூயா, அல்லேலூயா! 

விடிவிண்மீனே, முடிவிலா ஒளியின் சுடரே, நீதியின் கதிரவனே, இருளிலும் மரண நிழலிலும் அவதிப்படுவோரைச் சுடர்வீசி ஒளிர்விக்க வந்தருளும். அல்லேலூயா.

தாவீதின் அரசு ஆண்டவர்முன் என்றென்றும் உறுதியாக இருக்கும்.

சாமுவேல் இரண்டாம் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 7: 1-5, 8b-12, 16.

தாவீது அரசர் தம் அரண்மனையில் குடியேறியபின், சுற்றியிருந்த எல்லா எதிரிகளின் தொல்லையினின்றும் ஆண்டவர் அவருக்கு ஓய்வு அளித்தார். அப்போது இறைவாக்கினர் நாத்தானைத் தாவீது அழைத்து, “பாரும், நான் கேதுரு மரங்களாலான அரண்மனையில் வாழ்கிறேன். கடவுளின் பேழையோ கூடாரத்தில் குடியிருக்கிறது” என்று கூறினார். அதற்கு நாத்தான், “நீர் விரும்பியது அனைத்தையும் செய்துவிடும்; ஏனெனில் ஆண்டவர் உம்மோடு இருக்கிறார்” என்று அரசரிடம் சொன்னார்.

அன்று இரவே ஆண்டவரின் வார்த்தை நாத்தானுக்கு அருளப்பட்டது: “நீ சென்று, என் ஊழியன் தாவீதிடம் ஆண்டவர் இவ்வாறு கூறுவதாகச் சொல்:

நான் தங்குவதற்காக எனக்கு ஒரு கோவில் கட்டப்போகிறாயா? என் மக்கள் இஸ்ரயேலின் தலைவனாக விளங்க புல்வெளியில் ஆடு மேய்த்துக்கொண்டிருந்த உன்னை நான் அழைத்தேன். நீ சென்ற இடமெல்லாம் நான் உன்னோடு இருந்தேன்; உன் கண்முன் உன் எதிரிகள் அனைவரையும் அழித்தேன்; மேலும் உலகில் வாழும் பெரும் மனிதர்போல் நீ புகழுறச் செய்வேன். எனது மக்களாகிய இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு ஓர் இடத்தை அளிப்பேன்; அவர்கள் அந்த இடத்திலேயே நிலைத்து வாழச் செய்வேன். என் மக்களாகிய இஸ்ரயேல்மீது நீதித் தலைவர்களை ஏற்படுத்திய நாள்களாகிய தொடக்க காலத்தில் தீயவர்களால் அவர்கள் ஒடுக்கப்பட்டதுபோல இனியும் அவர்கள் அலைக்கழிக்கப்பட மாட்டார்கள். அனைவரின் தொல்லைகளினின்றும் உனக்கு ஓய்வு அளிப்பேன். மேலும், ஆண்டவர்தாமே உன் வீட்டைக் கட்டப் போவதாக அவர் உனக்கு அறிவிக்கிறார்.

உன் வாழ்நாள்கள் நிறைவுபெற்று நீ உன் மூதாதையரோடு துயில் கொள்ளும்போது, உனக்குப் பிறக்கும் உன் வழித்தோன்றலை உனக்குப் பின் நான் உயர்த்தி, அவனது அரசை நான் நிலைநாட்டுவேன். என் முன்பாக உனது குடும்பமும் உனது அரசும் என்றும் உறுதியாயிருக்கும்! உனது அரியணை என்றுமே நிலைத்திருக்கும்.”

'You, little child, shall be the prophet of the Most High'.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 1: 67-79. 

John’s father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke this prophecy:

‘Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel

for he has visited his people, he has come to their rescue

and he has raised up for us a power for salvation

in the House of his servant David,

even as he proclaimed,

by the mouth of his holy prophets from ancient times,

that he would save us from our enemies

and from the hands of all who hate us.

Thus he shows mercy to our ancestors,

thus he remembers his holy covenant

the oath he swore

to our father Abraham

that he would grant us, free from fear,

to be delivered from the hands of our enemies,

to serve him in holiness and virtue

in his presence, all our days.

And you, little child,

you shall be called Prophet of the Most High,

for you will go before the Lord

to prepare the way for him,

to give his people knowledge of salvation

through the forgiveness of their sins;

this by the tender mercy of our God

who from on high will bring the rising Sun to visit us,

to give light to those who live

in darkness and the shadow of death

and to guide our feet

Once David had settled into his house and the Lord had given him rest from all the enemies surrounding him, the king said to the prophet Nathan, ‘Look, I am living in a house of cedar while the ark of God dwells in a tent.’ Nathan said to the king, ‘Go and do all that is in your mind, for the Lord is with you.’

  But that very night the word of the Lord came to Nathan:

  ‘Go and tell my servant David, “Thus the Lord speaks: Are you the man to build me a house to dwell in? I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, to be leader of my people Israel; I have been with you on all your expeditions; I have cut off all your enemies before you. I will give you fame as great as the fame of the greatest on earth. I will provide a place for my people Israel; I will plant them there and they shall dwell in that place and never be disturbed again; nor shall the wicked continue to oppress them as they did, in the days when I appointed judges over my people Israel; I will give them rest from all their enemies. The Lord will make you great; the Lord will make you a House. And when your days are ended and you are laid to rest with your ancestors, I will preserve the offspring of your body after you and make his sovereignty secure. I will be a father to him and he a son to me; if he does evil, I will punish him with the rod such as men use, with strokes such as mankind gives. Your House and your sovereignty will always stand secure before me and your throne be established for ever.”’
