பாலன் வளர்ந்து ஞானம் நிறைந்தவராய் இருந்தார்.

✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய தூய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 2: 22-40

மோசேயின் சட்டப்படி தூய்மைச் சடங்கை நிறைவேற்றவேண்டிய நாள் வந்தபோது, குழந்தையை ஆண்டவருக்கு அர்ப்பணிக்க அவர்கள் எருசலேமுக்குக் கொண்டு சென்றார்கள். ஏனெனில், “ஆண் தலைப்பேறு அனைத்தும் ஆண்டவருக்கு அர்ப்பணிக்கப்படும்” என்று அவருடைய திருச்சட்டத்தில் எழுதியுள்ளது. அச்சட்டத்தில் கூறியுள்ளவாறு இரு மாடப்புறாக்கள் அல்லது இரு புறாக்குஞ்சுகளை அவர்கள் பலியாகக் கொடுக்க வேண்டியிருந்தது.

அப்போது எருசலேமில் சிமியோன் என்னும் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். அவர் நேர்மையானவர்; இறைப்பற்றுக் கொண்டவர்; இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு வாக்களிக்கப்பட்ட ஆறுதலை எதிர்பார்த்திருந்தவர்; தூய ஆவியை அவர் பெற்றிருந்தார். “ஆண்டவருடைய மெசியாவைக் காணுமுன் அவர் சாகப்போவதில்லை” என்று தூய ஆவியால் உணர்த்தப்பட்டிருந்தார். அந்த ஆவியின் தூண்டுதலால் அவர் கோவிலுக்கு வந்திருந்தார். திருச்சட்ட வழக்கத்திற்கு ஏற்பச் செய்ய வேண்டியதைக் குழந்தை இயேசுவுக்குச் செய்து முடிக்கப் பெற்றோர் அதனை உள்ளே கொண்டுவந்தபோது, சிமியோன் குழந்தையைக் கையில் ஏந்திக் கடவுளைப் போற்றி,

“ஆண்டவரே, உமது சொற்படி உம் அடியான் என்னை இப்போது அமைதியுடன் போகச் செய்கிறீர். ஏனெனில் மக்கள் அனைவரும் காணுமாறு நீர் ஏற்பாடு செய்துள்ள உமது மீட்பை என் கண்கள் கண்டுகொண்டன. இம்மீட்பே பிற இனத்தாருக்கு வெளிப்பாடு அருளும் ஒளி; இதுவே உம் மக்களாகிய இஸ்ரயேலுக்குப் பெருமை” என்றார்.

குழந்தையைக் குறித்துக் கூறியவை பற்றி அதன் தாயும் தந்தையும் வியப்புற்றனர். சிமியோன் அவர்களுக்கு ஆசிகூறி, அதன் தாயாகிய மரியாவை நோக்கி, “இதோ, இக்குழந்தை இஸ்ரயேல் மக்களுள் பலரின் வீழ்ச்சிக்கும் எழுச்சிக்கும் காரணமாக இருக்கும்; எதிர்க்கப்படும் அடையாளமாகவும் இருக்கும். இவ்வாறு பலருடைய மறைவான எண்ணங்கள் வெளிப்படும். உமது உள்ளத்தையும் ஒரு வாள் ஊடுருவிப் பாயும்” என்றார்.

ஆசேர் குலத்தைச் சேர்ந்த பானுவேலின் மகளாகிய அன்னா என்னும் இறைவாக்கினர் ஒருவர் இருந்தார். அவர் வயது முதிர்ந்தவர்; மணமாகி ஏழு ஆண்டுகள் கணவரோடு வாழ்ந்தபின் கைம்பெண் ஆனவர்; அவருக்கு வயது எண்பத்து நான்கு. அவர் கோவிலை விட்டு நீங்காமல் நோன்பிருந்து மன்றாடி அல்லும் பகலும் திருப்பணி செய்துவந்தார். அவரும் அந்நேரத்தில் அங்கு வந்து கடவுளைப் புகழ்ந்து எருசலேமின் மீட்புக்காகக் காத்திருந்த எல்லாரிடமும் அக்குழந்தையைப்பற்றிப் பேசினார்.

ஆண்டவருடைய திருச்சட்டப்படி எல்லாவற்றையும் செய்து முடித்த பின்பு அவர்கள் கலிலேயாவிலுள்ள தங்கள் ஊராகிய நாசரேத்துக்குத் திரும்பிச் சென்றார்கள். குழந்தையும் வளர்ந்து வலிமை பெற்று ஞானத்தால் நிறைந்து கடவுளுக்கு உகந்ததாய் இருந்தது.

ஆண்டவரின் அருள்வாக்கு.

ஆபிரகாம், சாரா, ஈசாக்கு ஆகியோரின் நம்பிக்கை.

எபிரேயருக்கு எழுதப்பட்ட திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 11: 8, 11-12, 17-19

ஆபிரகாம் தாம் அழைக்கப்பட்டபோது, கீழ்ப்படிந்து, உரிமைப்பேறாகப் பெறவிருந்த இடத்திற்குச் சென்றதும் நம்பிக்கையினால்தான். தாம் எங்கே போகவேண்டும் என்று தெரியாதிருந்தும் அவர் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றார்.

ஆபிரகாம் வயது முதியவராயும் சாரா கருவுற இயலாதவராயும் இருந்தபோதிலும், அவர் ஒரு தந்தையாவதற்கான ஆற்றல் பெற்றதும் நம்பிக்கையினால்தான். ஏனெனில் வாக்களித்தவர் நம்பிக்கைக்குரியவர் என அவர் கருதினார். இவ்வாறு, உயிரற்றவர் போலிருந்த இந்த ஒருவரிட மிருந்து வானத்திலுள்ள திரளான விண்மீன்களைப் போலவும் கடற்கரையிலுள்ள எண்ணிறந்த மணலைப் போலவும் கணக்கற்ற மக்கள் பிறந்தனர்.

ஆபிரகாம் சோதிக்கப்பட்டபோது ஈசாக்கைப் பலியிடத் துணிந்தது நம்பிக்கையினால்தான். “ஈசாக்கின் மூலமே, உன் வழிமரபு விளங்கும்” என்ற வாக்குறுதியை அவர் பெற்றிருந்தபோதிலும், அவர் தம் ஒரே மகனைப் பலியிட முன் வந்தார். ஏனெனில், இறந்தோரைக் கடவுள் உயிரோடு எழுப்ப வல்லவர் என்பதை அவர் உணர்ந்திருந்தார். எனவே, அவர் தம் மகனை மீண்டும் பெற்றுக்கொண்டார். பின்பு நடக்க இருந்ததற்கு இது ஓர் அறிகுறி.

தொடக்க நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 15: 1-6; 21: 1-3

ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு ஆபிராமுக்கு ஒரு காட்சி வழியாக வந்து அறிவித்தது: “ஆபிராம்! அஞ்சாதே. நான் உனக்குக் கேடயமாக இருப்பேன். உனக்குப் பெரும் கைம்மாறு கிடைக்கும்."

அப்பொழுது ஆபிராம், “என் தலைவராகிய ஆண்டவரே, எனக்கு என்னதான் தருவீர்? எனக்கோ குழந்தையே இல்லை! தமஸ்கு நகர் எலியேசர்தான் எனக்குப் பின் என் இல்லத்திற்கு உரிமை மகன் ஆகப்போகிறான்! நீர் எனக்குக் குழந்தை ஒன்றும் தராததால் என் வீட்டு அடிமை மகன் எனக்குப் பின் உரிமையாளன் ஆகப்போகிறான்” என்றார். அதற்கு மறுமொழியாக, “இவன் உனக்குப் பின் உரிமையாளன் ஆகமாட்டான். ஆனால், உனக்குப் பிறப்பவனே உனக்குப் பின் உரிமையாளன் ஆவான்” என்று ஆபிராமுக்கு ஆண்டவரின் வாக்கு அருளப்பட்டது. அப்பொழுது ஆண்டவர் ஆபிராமை வெளியே அழைத்து வந்து, “வானத்தை நிமிர்ந்து பார். முடியுமானால், விண்மீன்களை எண்ணிப்பார். இவற்றைப் போலவே உன் வழிமரபினரும் இருப்பர்” என்றார். ஆபிராம் ஆண்டவர்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொண்டார். அதை ஆண்டவர் அவருக்கு நீதியாகக் கருதினார்.

ஆண்டவர் தாம் கூறியிருந்தபடி சாராவைக் கண்ணோக்கினார். ஆண்டவர் தம் வாக்குறுதிக்கேற்ப சாராவுக்குச் செய்தருளினார். கடவுள் வாக்களித்தபடி, குறிப்பிட்ட அதே காலத்தில் சாரா கருத்தாங்கி, ஆபிரகாமுக்கு அவரது முதிர்ந்த வயதில் ஒரு மகனைப் பெற்றெடுத்தார். ஆபிரகாம் தமக்குப் பிறந்த, சாரா தமக்குப் பெற்றுக்கொடுத்த, மகனுக்கு ‘ஈசாக்கு’ என்று பெயரிட்டார்.

My eyes have seen your salvation

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 2:22-40 

When the day came for them to be purified as laid down by the Law of Moses, the parents of Jesus took him up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, – observing what stands written in the Law of the Lord: Every first-born male must be consecrated to the Lord – and also to offer in sacrifice, in accordance with what is said in the Law of the Lord, a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.

  Now in Jerusalem there was a man named Simeon. He was an upright and devout man; he looked forward to Israel’s comforting and the Holy Spirit rested on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death until he had set eyes on the Christ of the Lord. Prompted by the Spirit he came to the Temple and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what the Law required, he took him into his arms and blessed God; and he said:

‘Now, Master, you can let your servant go in peace,

just as you promised;

because my eyes have seen the salvation

which you have prepared for all the nations to see,

a light to enlighten the pagans

and the glory of your people Israel.’

As the child’s father and mother stood there wondering at the things that were being said about him, Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, ‘You see this child: he is destined for the fall and for the rising of many in Israel, destined to be a sign that is rejected – and a sword will pierce your own soul too – so that the secret thoughts of many may be laid bare.’

  There was a prophetess also, Anna the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was well on in years. Her days of girlhood over, she had been married for seven years before becoming a widow. She was now eighty-four years old and never left the Temple, serving God night and day with fasting and prayer. She came by just at that moment and began to praise God; and she spoke of the child to all who looked forward to the deliverance of Jerusalem.

  When they had done everything the Law of the Lord required, they went back to Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth. Meanwhile the child grew to maturity, and he was filled with wisdom; and God’s favour was with him.

The faith of Abraham and of Sarah

Hebrews 11:8,11-12,17-19 

It was by faith that Abraham obeyed the call to set out for a country that was the inheritance given to him and his descendants, and that he set out without knowing where he was going. It was equally by faith that Sarah, in spite of being past the age, was made able to conceive, because she believed that he who had made the promise would be faithful to it. Because of this, there came from one man, and one who was already as good as dead himself, more descendants than could be counted, as many as the stars of heaven or the grains of sand on the seashore.

  It was by faith that Abraham, when put to the test, offered up Isaac. He offered to sacrifice his only son even though the promises had been made to him and he had been told: It is through Isaac that your name will be carried on. He was confident that God had the power even to raise the dead; and so, figuratively speaking, he was given back Isaac from the dead.

Your heir shall be your own flesh and blood

A reading from the book of Genesis 15:1-6,21:1-3 

The word of the Lord was spoken to Abram in a vision, ‘Have no fear, Abram, I am your shield; your reward will be very great.’

  ‘My Lord,’ Abram replied ‘what do you intend to give me? I go childless…’. Then Abram said, ‘See, you have given me no descendants; some man of my household will be my heir.’ And then this word of the Lord was spoken to him, ‘He shall not be your heir; your heir shall be of your own flesh and blood.’ Then taking him outside he said, ‘Look up to heaven and count the stars if you can. Such will be your descendants’ he told him. Abram put his faith in the Lord, who counted this as making him justified.

  The Lord dealt kindly with Sarah as he had said, and did what he had promised. So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the time God had promised. Abraham named the son born to him Isaac, the son to whom Sarah had given birth.
