I am the living bread that came down from heaven,

says the Lord;

if anyone eats this bread, he will live forever.

At that time

Jesus said to the crowds:

“No one can come to me

unless the Father who sent me draws him,

and I will raise him up at the last day.

It is written in the prophets:

They will all be taught by God himself.

Everyone who has heard the Father and received his teaching

comes to me.

Certainly, no one has ever seen the Father

except he who comes from God:

he alone has seen the Father.

Amen, amen, I say to you,

he who believes has eternal life.

I am the bread of life.

In the desert your fathers ate the manna,

and died;

but the bread that comes down from heaven

is such that whoever eats it will not die.

I am the living bread,

which came down from heaven:

if anyone eats of this bread,

he will live forever.

The bread that I will give is my flesh,

given for the life of the world. »

In those days

the angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying,

“Go south,

take the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza;

it is deserted. »

And Philippe set off.

Now, an Ethiopian, a eunuch,

high official of Candace, the queen of Ethiopia,

and administrator of all her treasures,

had come to Jerusalem to worship.

He came back, sitting in his chariot,

and reading the prophet Isaiah.

The Spirit said to Philip:

“Come near and join this chariot. »

Philip began to run,

and he heard the man reading the prophet Isaiah;

then he asked him:

“Do you understand what you are reading? »

The other replied:

“And how can I

if there is no one to guide me? »

So he invited Philippe to come up and sit next to him.

The passage of Scripture he read was this:

Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter;

like a lamb mute before the shearer,

he does not open his mouth.

In his humiliation,

he did not get justice.

Who will talk about his descendants?

For his life is cut off from the earth.

Speaking, the eunuch said to Philip:

“Tell me, I pray you: of whom is the prophet speaking?

From himself, or from someone else? »

Then Philip spoke

and, from this passage of Scripture,

he announced to him the Good News of Jesus.

As they continued their journey,

they came to a place of water,

and the eunuch said:

“Here is water:

what prevents me from being baptized? »

He stopped the chariot,

they both went down into the water,

and Philip baptized the eunuch.

When they came up from the water,

the Spirit of the Lord carried away Philip;

the eunuch no longer saw him,

but continued on his way, very joyful.

Philip found himself in the city of Ashdod,

he announced the Good News

in all the cities he passed through

until he arrived in Caesarea.

அக்காலத்தில் இயேசு யூதர்களைப் பார்த்துக் கூறியது: “என்னை அனுப்பிய தந்தை ஈர்த்தாலொழிய எவரும் என்னிடம் வர இயலாது. என்னிடம் வருபவரை நானும் இறுதி நாளில் உயிர்த்தெழச் செய்வேன். ‘கடவுள்தாமே அனைவருக்கும் கற்றுத்தருவார்’ என இறைவாக்கு நூல்களில் எழுதியுள்ளது. தந்தைக்குச் செவிசாய்த்து அவரிடமிருந்து கற்றுக்கொண்ட அனைவரும் என்னிடம் வருவர். கடவுள்தாமே கற்றுத்தருவார் என்பதிலிருந்து தந்தையை எவராவது கண்டுள்ளார் என்று பொருள் கொள்ளக்கூடாது. கடவுளிடமிருந்து வந்துள்ளவர் மட்டுமே கடவுளைக் கண்டுள்ளார். உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: என்னை நம்புவோர் நிலைவாழ்வைக் கொண்டுள்ளனர்.

வாழ்வு தரும் உணவு நானே. உங்கள் முன்னோர் பாலை நிலத்தில் மன்னாவை உண்டபோதிலும் இறந்தனர். உண்பவரை இறவாமல் இருக்கச் செய்யும் உணவு விண்ணகத்திலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்த இந்த உணவே. விண்ணகத்திலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்த வாழ்வு தரும் உணவு நானே. இந்த உணவை எவராவது உண்டால் அவர் என்றுமே வாழ்வார். எனது சதையை உணவாகக் கொடுக்கிறேன். அதை உலகு வாழ்வதற்காகவே கொடுக்கிறேன்.”

திருத்தூதர் பணிகள் நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 8: 26-40

அந்நாள்களில் ஆண்டவரின் தூதர் பிலிப்பிடம், ``நீ எழுந்து எருசலேமிலிருந்து காசாவுக்குச் செல்லும் வழியாகத் தெற்கு நோக்கிப் போ'' என்றார். அது ஒரு பாலைநிலப் பாதை. பிலிப்பு அவ்வாறே புறப்பட்டுப் போனார். அப்போது எத்தியோப்பிய அரச அலுவலர் ஒருவர் எருசலேம் சென்று, கடவுளை வணங்கிவிட்டுத் திரும்பிச் சென்றுகொண்டிருந்தார். அவர் ஓர் அலி; எத்தியோப்பிய அரசியான கந்தகியின் நிதியமைச்சர். அவர் தமது தேரில் அமர்ந்து எசாயாவின் இறைவாக்கு நூலைப் படித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தார். தூய ஆவியார் பிலிப்பிடம், ``நீ அந்தத் தேரை நெருங்கிச் சென்று அதனோடு கூடவே போ'' என்றார். பிலிப்பு ஓடிச் சென்று, அவர் எசாயாவின் இறைவாக்கு நூலை வாசிப்பதைக் கேட்டு, ``நீர் வாசிப்பதின் பொருள் உமக்குத் தெரிகின்றதா?'' என்று கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவர், ``யாராவது விளக்கிக்காட்டாவிட்டால் எவ்வாறு என்னால் தெரிந்துகொள்ள முடியும்?'' என்று கூறித் தேரில் ஏறித் தன்னோடு அமருமாறு பிலிப்பை அழைத்தார். அவர் வாசித்துக்கொண்டிருந்த மறைநூல் பகுதி பின்வருமாறு: ``அடிப்பதற்கு இழுத்துச்செல்லப்பட்ட ஆட்டுக் குட்டிபோலும், உரோமம் கத்தரிப்போன் முன்னிலையில் கத்தாத செம்மறி போலும் அவர் தம் வாயைத் திறவாதி உமது கையில் என் உயிரை ஒப்படைக்கின்றேன்.ருந்தார். தாழ்வுற்ற நிலையில் அவருக்கு நீதி வழங்கப்படவில்லை. அவருடைய தலைமுறையைப்பற்றி எடுத்துரைப்பவன் யார்? ஏனெனில் அவருடைய உயிர்தான் எடுக்கப்பட்டுவிட்டதே!'' அவர் பிலிப்பிடம், ``இறைவாக்கினர் யாரைக் குறித்து இதைக் கூறுகிறார்? தம்மைக் குறித்தா, அல்லது மற்றொருவரைக் குறித்தா? தயவு செய்து கூறுவீரா?'' என்று கேட்டார். அப்போது பிலிப்பு, இந்த மறைநூல் பகுதியிலிருந்து தொடங்கி, இயேசுவைப்பற்றிய நற்செய்தியை அவருக்கு அறிவித்தார். அவர்கள் போய்க்கொண்டிருந்தபோது வழியில் தண்ணீர் இருந்த ஓர் இடத்துக்கு வந்தார்கள். அப்போது அவர், ``இதோ, தண்ணீர் உள்ளதே, நான் திருமுழுக்குப் பெற ஏதாவது தடை உண்டா?'' என்று கேட்டார். அதற்குப் பிலிப்பு, ``நீர் முழு உள்ளத்தோடு நம்பினால் தடையில்லை'' என்றார். உடனே அவர், ``இயேசு கிறிஸ்து இறைமகன் என்று நம்புகிறேன்'' என்றார். உடனே அமைச்சர் தேரை நிறுத்தக் கூறினார். பிலிப்பு, அமைச்சர் ஆகிய இருவரும் தண்ணீருக்குள் இறங்கினர். பிலிப்பு அவருக்குத் திருமுழுக்கு கொடுத்தார். அவர்கள் தண்ணீரிலிருந்து வெளியேறினவுடனேயே ஆண்டவரின் ஆவியார் பிலிப்புவை எடுத்துச் சென்றுவிட்டார். அமைச்சர் அதன்பின் அவரைக் காணவில்லை; அவர் மகிழ்ச்சியோடு தம் வழியே சென்றார். பின்பு பிலிப்பு ஆசோத்து என்னும் இடத்தில் காணப்பட்டார். செசரியா போய்ச் சேரும்வரை அவர் சென்ற நகரங்களிலெல்லாம் நற்செய்தியை அறிவித்தார்.
