"The one I had beheaded, Jean, here he is resuscitated!" " 

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark (6, 14-29) 

At that time, as the name of Jesus was becoming famous, King Herod heard about it. It was said: "It is John who baptized: he rose from the dead, and that is why miracles are performed through him." Some said, "This is the prophet Elijah. Others still said: "He is a prophet like those of old. "Herod heard these words and said:" The one whom I had beheaded, John, here he is risen! Because it was he, Herod, who had given the order to arrest John and chain him in prison, because of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, whom he himself had taken for wife. Indeed, John said to him: “You do not have the right to take your brother's wife. Herodias had a grudge against Jean, therefore, and she was trying to kill him. But she could not do it because Herod was afraid of John: he knew that he was a just and holy man, and he protected him; when he heard it he was very embarrassed; however he listened to her with pleasure. Now a favorable occasion arose when, on his birthday, Herod made a dinner for his dignitaries, for the chiefs of the army and for the notables of Galilee. Herodias daughter entered and danced. It pleased Herod and his guests. The king said to the girl, "Ask me what you want, and I will give it to you." And he made him this oath: "Whatever you ask of me, I will give it to you, even if it is half of my kingdom." She then went out to say to her mother, "What am I going to ask?" Herodias replied, "The head of John, the one who baptizes." "Immediately the young girl hastened to return to the king, and asked him this request:" I want you to give me the head of John the Baptist right away. The king was greatly annoyed; but because of the oath and the guests, he did not want to refuse it. He immediately sent a guard with the order to bring John's head. The guard went to behead John in the prison. He brought the head on a platter, gave it to the girl, and the girl gave it to her mother. The guard went to behead John in the prison. FIRST READING 

"Jesus Christ, yesterday and today, is the same, he is for eternity" 

the letter to the Hebrews (13, 1-8) 

Brothers, let fraternal love remain! Do not forget the hospitality: it has allowed some, without knowing it, to receive angels in their homes. Remember those who are in prison, as if you were prisoners with them. Remember those who are mistreated, for you too have a body. May marriage be honored by all, may marital union not be profaned, for debauchery and adultery will be judged by God. Let your conduct not be inspired by the love of money: be content with what you have, for God himself has said: I will never let you go, never I will forsake you. This is why we can say with all confidence: The Lord is my help, I have nothing to fear! What could a man do to me? Remember those who have led you: they have spoken the word of God to you. Meditate on the outcome of the life they led, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ, yesterday and today, is the same, he is for eternity.

அக்காலத்தில் இயேசுவின் பெயர் எங்கும் பரவியது. ஏரோது அரசனும் அவரைப் பற்றிக் கேள்வியுற்றான். சிலர், ``இறந்த திருமுழுக்கு யோவான் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்பட்டுவிட்டார்; இதனால்தான் இந்த வல்ல செயல்கள் இவரால் ஆற்றப்படுகின்றன'' என்றனர். வேறு சிலர், ``இவர் எலியா'' என்றனர். மற்றும் சிலர், ``ஏனைய இறைவாக்கினரைப்போல் இவரும் ஓர் இறைவாக்கினரே'' என்றனர். இதைக் கேட்ட ஏரோது, ``இவர் யோவானே. அவர் தலையை நான் வெட்டச் செய்தேன். ஆனால் அவர் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்பட்டுவிட்டார்'' என்று கூறினான். இதே ஏரோது, தன் சகோதரனான பிலிப்பின் மனைவி ஏரோதியாவை மனைவியாக்கிக் கொண்டிருந்தான்; அவள் பொருட்டு ஆள் அனுப்பி யோவானைப் பிடித்துக் கட்டிச் சிறையில் அடைத்திருந்தான். ஏனெனில் யோவான் ஏரோதிடம், ``உம் சகோதரர் மனைவியை நீர் வைத்திருப்பது முறை அல்ல'' எனச் சொல்லி வந்தார். அப்போது ஏரோதியா அவர்மீது காழ்ப்புணர்வு கொண்டு, அவரைக் கொலை செய்ய விரும்பினாள்; ஆனால் அவளால் இயலவில்லை. ஏனெனில் யோவான் நேர்மையும் தூய்மையும் உள்ளவர் என்பதை ஏரோது அறிந்து அஞ்சி அவருக்குப் பாதுகாப்பு அளித்துவந்தான். அவர் சொல்லைக் கேட்டுமிகக் குழப்பமுற்ற போதிலும், அவருக்கு மனமுவந்து செவிசாய்த்தான். ஒரு நாள் ஏரோதியாவுக்கு நல்ல வாய்ப்பு ஒன்று கிடைத்தது. ஏரோது தன் பிறந்த நாளில் அரசவையினருக்கும், ஆயிரத்தவர் தலைவர்களுக்கும் கலிலேய முதன்மைக் குடிமக்களுக்கும் ஒரு விருந்து படைத்தான். அப்போது ஏரோதியாவின் மகள் உள்ளே வந்து நடனமாடி ஏரோதையும் விருந்தினரையும் அகமகிழச் செய்தாள். அரசன் அச்சிறுமியிடம், ``உனக்கு என்ன வேண்டுமானாலும் கேள், தருகிறேன்'' என்றான். ``நீ என்னிடம் எது கேட்டாலும், ஏன் என் அரசில் பாதியையே கேட்டாலும் உனக்குத் தருகிறேன்'' என்றும் ஆணையிட்டுக் கூறினான். அவள் வெளியே சென்று, ``நான் என்ன கேட்கலாம்?'' என்று தன் தாயை வினவினாள். அவள், ``திருமுழுக்கு யோவானின் தலையைக் கேள்'' என்றாள். உடனே சிறுமி அரசனிடம் விரைந்து வந்து, ``திருமுழுக்கு யோவானின் தலையை ஒரு தட்டில் வைத்து இப்போதே எனக்குக் கொடும்'' என்று கேட்டாள். இதைக் கேட்ட அரசன் மிக வருந்தினான். ஆனாலும் விருந்தினர் முன் தான் ஆணையிட்டதால் அவளுக்கு அதை மறுக்க விரும்பவில்லை. உடனே அரசன் ஒரு காவலனை அனுப்பி யோவானுடைய தலையைக் கொண்டு வருமாறு பணித்தான். அவன் சென்று சிறையில் அவருடைய தலையை வெட்டி, அதை ஒரு தட்டில் கொண்டு வந்து அச்சிறுமியிடம் கொடுக்க, அவளும் அதைத் தன் தாயிடம் கொடுத்தாள். இதைக் கேள்வியுற்ற யோவானுடைய சீடர்கள் வந்து அவருடைய உடலை எடுத்துச் சென்று ஒரு கல்லறையில் வைத்தார்கள். 

இது கிறிஸ்து வழங்கும் நற்செய்தி.

ஆண்டவரே என் உயிருக்கு அடைக்கலம்; யாருக்கு நான் அஞ்சி நடுங்க வேண்டும்? -பல்லவி 

3 எனக்கெதிராக ஒரு படையே பாளையமிறங்கினும், என் உள்ளம் அஞ்சாது;

முதல் வாசகம் 

இயேசு கிறிஸ்து நேற்றும் இன்றும் என்றுமே மாறாதவர். 

எபிரேயருக்கு எழுதப்பட்ட திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 13: 1-8 

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே, சகோதர அன்பில் நிலைத்திருங்கள். அன்னியரை வரவேற்று விருந்தோம்ப மறவாதீர்கள். இவ்வாறு விருந்தோம்பியதால் சிலர் தாங்கள் அறியாமலே வானதூதர்களை மகிழ்ச்சிப்படுத்தியதுண்டு. சிறைப் பட்டவர்களோடு நீங்களும் சிறைப்பட்டிருப்பதாக எண்ணி அவர்களை நினைத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள். துன்புறக்கூடிய உடல் உங்களுக்கும் உள்ளதால், துன்புறுத்தப்படுபவர்களை மறவாதீர்கள். திருமணத்தை அனைவரும் உயர்வாக மதியுங்கள். மணவறைப் படுக்கை மாசுறாமல் இருக்கட்டும். காமுகரும் விபசாரத்தில் ஈடுபடுவோரும் கடவுளின் தீர்ப்புக்கு ஆளாவர். பொருளாசையை விலக்கி வாழுங்கள். உள்ளதே போதும் என்று இருங்கள். ஏனெனில், ``நான் ஒருபோதும் உன்னைக் கைவிட மாட்டேன்! உன்னை விட்டு விலகமாட்டேன்'' என்று கடவுளே கூறியிருக்கிறார். இதனால், நாம் துணி வோடு, ``ஆண்டவரே எனக்குத் துணை, நான் அஞ்ச மாட்டேன்; மனிதர் எனக்கு எதிராக என்ன செய்ய முடியும்?'' என்று கூறலாம். உங்களுக்குக் கடவுளின் வார்த்தையை எடுத்துச் சொன்ன உங்கள் தலைவர்களை நினைவுகூருங்கள். அவர்களது வாழ்வின் நிறைவை எண்ணிப் பார்த்து, நீங்களும் அவர்களைப்போல நம்பிக்கையுடையவர்களாய் இருங்கள். இயேசு கிறிஸ்து நேற்றும் இன்றும் என்றுமே மாறாதவர். 

இது ஆண்டவர் வழங்கும் அருள்வாக்கு.
