அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு திரளான மக்கள் தம்மைச் சூழ்ந்திருப்பதைக் கண்டு, மறு கரைக்குச் செல்ல சீடர்களுக்குக் கட்டளையிட்டார். அப்பொழுது மறைநூல் அறிஞர் ஒருவர் வந்து, “போதகரே, நீர் எங்கே சென்றாலும் நானும் உம்மைப் பின்பற்றுவேன்” என்றார். இயேசு அவரிடம், “நரிகளுக்குப் பதுங்குக் குழிகளும், வானத்துப் பறவைகளுக்குக் கூடுகளும் உண்டு. மானிட மகனுக்கோ தலை சாய்க்கக்கூட இடமில்லை” என்றார்.

இயேசுவின் சீடருள் மற்றொருவர் அவரை நோக்கி, “ஐயா, முதலில் நான் போய் என் தந்தையை அடக்கம் செய்துவிட்டு வர அனுமதியும்” என்றார். இயேசு அவரைப் பார்த்து, நீர் என்னைப் பின்பற்றி வாரும். இறந்தோரைப் பற்றிக் கவலை வேண்டாம். அவர்கள் அடக்கம் செய்யப்படுவார்கள்” என்றார்.

என் விதிமுறைகளை ஓதுவதற்கு உங்களுக்கு என்ன தகுதி? என் உடன்படிக்கை பற்றிப் பேசுவதற்கு உங்களுக்கு என்ன அருகதை?

நீங்களோ ஒழுங்குமுறையை வெறுக்கின்றீர்கள்; என் கட்டளைகளைத் தூக்கியெறிந்து விடுகின்றீர்கள். - பல்லவி

திருடர்களைக் கண்டால் அவர்களோடு விருப்புடன் சேர்ந்து கொள்கின்றீர்கள்; கற்பு நெறி தவறியவர்களோடும் உங்களுக்கு உறவு உண்டு.

உங்கள் வாய் உரைப்பது தீமையே; உங்கள் நா புனைவதும் பொய்ம்மையே. - பல்லவி

இவ்வாறெல்லாம் நீங்கள் செய்தும், நான் மௌனமாய் இருந்தேன்; நானும் உங்களைப் போன்றவர் என எண்ணிக் கொண்டீர்கள்; ஆனால், இப்பொழுது உங்களைக் கண்டிக்கின்றேன்; உங்கள் குற்றங்களை உங்கள் கண்முன் ஒவ்வொன்றாய் எடுத்துரைக்கின்றேன். - பல்லவி

கடவுளை மறந்தோரே! இதைக் கண்டுணருங்கள்; இல்லையேல், நான் உங்களைப் பீறிப் போடுவேன்; உங்களை விடுவிக்க யாரும் இரார்.

ஏழைகளின் தலைகளை மண்ணில் புழுதிபட மிதிக்கின்றார்கள்.

ஆண்டவர் கூறுவது இதுவே:

“இஸ்ரயேல் எண்ணற்ற குற்றங்கள் செய்ததற்காக நான் கொடுத்த தண்டனைத் தீர்ப்பை மாற்றவே மாட்டேன்; ஏனெனில், அவர்கள் நேர்மையாளரை வெள்ளிக் காசுக்கும் வறியவரை இரு காலணிக்கும் விற்கின்றார்கள். ஏழைகளின் தலைகளை மண்ணில் புழுதிபட மிதிக்கின்றார்கள்; ஒடுக்கப்பட்டோரின் நெறியைக் கெடுக்கின்றார்கள்; மகனும் தந்தையும் ஒரே பெண்ணைக் கூடி, என் திருப்பெயரைக் களங்கப்படுத்துகிறார்கள். கடன்காரரிடமிருந்து பறித்த ஆடைகளை விரித்துப் போட்டு, எல்லாப் பலிபீடங்களின் முன்பும் கிடந்து கொண்டு அபராதம் விதித்துக் கிடைத்த மதுவினைத் தங்கள் கடவுளின் இல்லத்தில் குடிக்கின்றார்கள்.

நானோ கேதுரு மரத்தின் உயரமும் கருவாலி மரத்தின் வலிமையும் கொண்ட எமோரியரை அவர்கள் முன்பாக அழித்துவிட்டேன்; மேலே அவர்களுடைய கனிகளையும், கீழே அவர்களுடைய வேர்களையும் அழித்து விட்டேன்; மேலும், எகிப்து நாட்டிலிருந்து உங்களை அழைத்து வந்து, நாற்பது ஆண்டுகள் பாலைநிலத்தில் உங்களை வழிநடத்தி, எமோரியர் நாட்டை நீங்கள் உரிமைச் சொத்தாக்கிக் கொள்ளச் செய்தேன்.

வைக்கோல் பொதி நிறைந்த வண்டி அழுந்துவது போல, உங்களையும் நீங்கள் இருக்கும் இடத்திலேயே அழுத்துவேன். விரைந்தோடுகிறவனும் தப்பமுடியாது; வலிமையுள்ளவனும் தன் வலிமையை இழந்து விடுவான்; வீரனாலும் தன்னுயிரைக் காத்துக் கொள்ள முடியாது. வில்லேந்தும் வீரன் எதிர்த்து நிற்கமாட்டான், விரைந்தோடுபவனும் தன்னைக் காப்பாற்றிக் கொள்ளமாட்டான், குதிரை வீரனாலும் தன்னுயிரைக் காத்துக்கொள்ள முடியாது. அந்நாளில் வலிமை மிக்கவர்களுள் நெஞ்சுரம் கொண்டவன் கூடப் படைக்கலன்களைத் தூக்கி எறிந்து விட்டு ஓடுவான்” என்கிறார் ஆண்டவர்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 8: 18-22 

When Jesus saw the great crowds all about him he gave orders to leave for the other side. One of the scribes then came up and said to him, ‘Master, I will follow you wherever you go.’ Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’

  Another man, one of his disciples, said to him, ‘Sir, let me go and bury my father first.’ But Jesus replied, ‘Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.’

‘How can you recite my commandments

  and take my covenant on your lips,

who unbridle your mouth for evil

  and whose tongue is plotting crime.

Because of your crimes I will crush you into the ground

A Reading from the Book of Amos 2: 6-10,13-16 

The Lord says this:

For the three crimes, the four crimes, of Israel

I have made my decree and will not relent:

because they have sold the virtuous man for silver

and the poor man for a pair of sandals,

because they trample on the heads of ordinary people

and push the poor out of their path,

because father and son have both resorted to the same girl,

profaning my holy name,

because they stretch themselves out by the side of every altar

on clothes acquired as pledges,

and drink the wine of the people they have fined

in the house of their god...

Yet it was I who overthrew the Amorites when they attacked,

men tall as cedars and strong as oaks,

I who destroyed them,

both fruit above ground

and root below.

It was I who brought you out of the land of Egypt

and for forty years led you through the wilderness

to take possession of the Amorite’s country.

See then how I am going to crush you into the ground

as the threshing-sledge crushes when clogged by straw;

flight will not save even the swift,

the strong man will find his strength useless,

the mighty man will be powerless to save himself.

The bowman will not stand his ground,

the fast runner will not escape,

the horseman will not save himself,

the bravest warriors will run away naked that day.

It is the Lord who speaks.
