அக்காலத்தில்

கலிலேயாவில் சீடர்கள் ஒன்றுதிரண்டிருக்கும் போது இயேசு அவர்களிடம், “மானிட மகன் மக்களின் கையில் ஒப்புவிக்கப்பட இருக்கிறார். அவர்கள் அவரைக் கொலை செய்வார்கள்; ஆனால் அவர் மூன்றாம் நாள் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்படுவார்” என்றார். அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் மிகவும் துயரடைந்தார்கள்.

அவர்கள் கப்பர்நாகுமுக்கு வந்தபோது கோவில் வரியாக இரண்டு திராக்மா தண்டுவோர் பேதுருவிடம் வந்து, “உங்கள் போதகர் இரண்டு திராக்மா வரியைச் செலுத்துவதில்லையா?” என்று கேட்டனர். அவர், “ஆம், செலுத்துகிறார்” என்றார்.

பின்பு வீட்டிற்குள் வந்து பேதுரு பேசத் தொடங்குவதற்கு முன்பே இயேசு, “சீமோனே உனக்கு எப்படித் தோன்றுகிறது? இவ்வுலக அரசர்கள் சுங்க வரியையோ தலைவரியையோ யாரிடமிருந்து பெறுகின்றார்கள்? தங்களுடைய மக்களிடமிருந்தா? மற்றவரிடமிருந்தா?” என்று கேட்டார். “மற்றவரிடமிருந்துதான்” என்று பேதுரு பதிலளித்தார்.

இயேசு அவரிடம், “அப்படியானால் குடிமக்கள் இதற்குக் கட்டுப்பட்டவரல்ல. ஆயினும் நாம் அவர்களுக்குத் தடையாய் இருக்கக் கூடாது. எனவே நீ போய்க் கடலில் தூண்டில் போடு; முதலில் அகப்படும் மீனை எடுத்து அதன் வாயைத் திறந்து பார்த்தால் ஸ்தாத்தேர் நாணயத்தைக் காண்பாய். அதை எடுத்து உன் சார்பாகவும் என் சார்பாகவும் அவர்களிடம் செலுத்து” என்றார்.

யோயாக்கீன் அரசன் நாடு கடத்தப்பட்ட ஐந்தாம் ஆண்டு - கல்தேயர் நாட்டின் கெபார் ஆற்றோரம், பூசி என்ற குருவின் மகன் எசேக்கியேலுக்கு, ஆண்டவரது வாக்கு அருளப்பட்டது. அங்கே ஆண்டவரின் கைவன்மை அவர்மேல் இருந்தது.

நான் உற்றுப் பார்க்கையில், வடக்கிலிருந்து புயற்காற்று விரைந்து வந்தது. மின்னலடிக்கும் பெருமேகத்தையும் அதனைச் சுற்றிச் சுடர்வீசும் தீப் பிழம்பையும், அத்தீப் பிழம்பினுள் மின்னும் வெண்கலம் போன்ற ஒன்றையும் கண்டேன். அதன் நடுவினின்று நான்கு உயிரினங்களின் வடிவம் தோன்றியது. அவற்றின் தோற்றம் மனிதச் சாயலுக்கு ஒப்பாயிருந்தது.

அவை செல்லும்போது அவற்றின் இறக்கைகள் எழுப்பிய ஒலியைக் கேட்டேன். அது பெருவெள்ளத்தின் இரைச்சல் போன்றும், எல்லாம் வல்லவரின் குரலொலி போன்றும் இருந்தது. அவை இயங்கும்போது ஏற்படும் இரைச்சலின் ஒலி ஒரு போர்ப் படையின் இரைச்சலை ஒத்த ஆரவாரமாக இருந்தது. அவை நின்றபோது தங்கள் இறக்கைகளை இறக்கிக்கொண்டன. அவை தங்கள் இறக்கைகளை இறக்கி நின்றபோது அவற்றின் தலைக்கு மேலிருந்த கவிகையின் மீதிருந்து குரலொன்று கேட்டது.

அவற்றின் தலைக்கு மேலிருந்த கவிகையின்மீது நீல மணிக்கல் தோற்றமுடைய ஓர் அரியணை போன்ற ஒன்று தெரிந்தது. அந்த அரியணை மேல் மனிதச் சாயலுக்கு ஒப்பான ஓர் உருவமும் தெரிந்தது. அவரது இடைக்கு மேற்புறம் சுற்றிலும் பளபளக்கும் வெண்கலம் போன்றும், நெருப்பு சூழ்ந்திருப்பது போன்றும் இருக்க நான் கண்டேன். அவரது இடைக்குக் கீழ்ப்புறம் நெருப்புப் போன்றும் சுற்றிலும் ஒளிமயமாயும் இருக்கக் கண்டேன். சூழ்ந்திருந்த ஒளியும் கார்கால மேகத்தினிடையே காணப்படும் வானவில் போன்று தோன்றியது.

இது ஆண்டவரது மாட்சிமிகு சாயலின் காட்சி. இதை நான் பார்த்ததும் முகம் குப்புற விழுந்தேன்; அப்போது ஒருவர் பேசும் குரல் கேட்டேன்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Matthew 17:22-27 

One day when they were together in Galilee, Jesus said to his disciples, ‘The Son of Man is going to be handed over into the power of men; they will put him to death, and on the third day he will be raised to life again.’ And a great sadness came over them.

  When they reached Capernaum, the collectors of the half-shekel came to Peter and said, ‘Does your master not pay the half-shekel?’ ‘Oh yes’ he replied, and went into the house. But before he could speak, Jesus said, ‘Simon, what is your opinion? From whom do the kings of the earth take toll or tribute? From their sons or from foreigners?’ And when he replied, ‘From foreigners’, Jesus said, ‘Well then, the sons are exempt. However, so as not to offend these people, go to the lake and cast a hook; take the first fish that bites, open its mouth and there you will find a shekel; take it and give it to them for me and for you.’

A Reading from the Book of Ezekiel 1:2-5,24-28 

On the fifth of the month – it was the fifth year of exile for King Jehoiachin – the word of the Lord was addressed to the priest Ezekiel son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldaeans, on the bank of the river Chebar.

  There the hand of the Lord came on me. I looked; a stormy wind blew from the north, a great cloud with light around it, a fire from which flashes of lightning darted, and in the centre a sheen like bronze at the heart of the fire. In the centre I saw what seemed four animals. They looked like this. They were of human form. I heard the noise of their wings as they moved; it sounded like rushing water, like the voice of Shaddai, a noise like a storm, like the noise of a camp; when they halted, they folded their wings, and there was a noise.

  Above the vault over their heads was something that looked like a sapphire; it was shaped like a throne and high up on this throne was a being that looked like a man. I saw him shine like bronze, and close to and all around him from what seemed his loins upwards was what looked like fire; and from what seemed his loins downwards I saw what looked like fire, and a light all round like a bow in the clouds on rainy days; that is how the surrounding light appeared. It was something that looked like the glory of the Lord. I looked, and prostrated myself.
