உங்களுள் தம் உடைமை எல்லாம் விட்டுவிடாத எவரும் என் சீடராய் இருக்க முடியாது.

✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 14: 25-33

அக்காலத்தில்

பெருந்திரளான மக்கள் இயேசுவோடு சென்று கொண்டிருந்தனர். அவர் திரும்பிப் பார்த்து அவர்களிடம் கூறியது: “என்னிடம் வருபவர் தம் தந்தை, தாய், மனைவி, பிள்ளைகள், சகோதரர் சகோதரிகள் ஆகியோரையும், ஏன், தம் உயிரையுமே என்னை விட மேலாகக் கருதினால், அவர் என் சீடராயிருக்க முடியாது. தம் சிலுவையைச் சுமக்காமல் என் பின் வருபவர் எனக்குச் சீடராய் இருக்க முடியாது.

உங்களுள் யாராவது ஒருவர் கோபுரம் கட்ட விரும்பினால், முதலில் உட்கார்ந்து, அதைக் கட்டிமுடிக்க ஆகும் செலவைக் கணித்து, அதற்கான பொருள் வசதி தம்மிடம் இருக்கிறதா எனப் பார்க்கமாட்டாரா? இல்லாவிட்டால் அதற்கு அடித்தளமிட்ட பிறகு அவர் கட்டி முடிக்க இயலாமல் இருப்பதைப் பார்க்கும் யாவரும் ஏளனமாக, ‘இம்மனிதன் கட்டத் தொடங்கினான்; ஆனால் முடிக்க இயலவில்லை’ என்பார்களே!

வேறு ஓர் அரசரோடு போர் தொடுக்கப்போகும் அரசர் ஒருவர், இருபதாயிரம் பேருடன் தமக்கு எதிராக வருபவரைப் பத்தாயிரம் பேரைக் கொண்டு எதிர்க்க முடியுமா என்று முதலில் உட்கார்ந்து சிந்தித்துப் பார்க்க மாட்டாரா? எதிர்க்க முடியாதெனில், அவர் தொலையில் இருக்கும்போதே தூதரை அனுப்பி, அமைதிக்கான வழியைத் தேடமாட்டாரா? அப்படியே, உங்களுள் தம் உடைமையை எல்லாம் விட்டுவிடாத எவரும் என் சீடராய் இருக்க முடியாது.”

இனி அவனை நீர் அடிமையாக அல்ல, உம்முடைய அன்பார்ந்த சகோதரனாக ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளும்.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் பிலமோனுக்கு எழுதிய திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 9b-10, 12-17

அன்பிற்குரியவரே,

கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவின் தூதுவனாக, அவர் பொருட்டுக் கைதியாக இருக்கும் பவுலாகிய எனக்குச் சிறையிலிருந்தபோது பிள்ளையான ஒனேசிமுக்காக உம்மிடம் வேண்டுகிறேன். அவனை உம்மிடம் திரும்ப அனுப்புகிறேன். அவனை அனுப்புவது என் இதயத்தையே அனுப்புவது போலாகும். நற்செய்தியின் பொருட்டுச் சிறையுற்றிருக்கும் எனக்கு, உமது பெயரால் பணியாற்ற, அவனை என்னிடமே நிறுத்திக்கொள்ள விரும்பினேன். ஆனால் நீர் செய்யும் நன்மையைக் கட்டாயத்தினால் செய்யாமல், மனமாரச் செய்ய வேண்டுமென்று நினைத்தே, உம்முடைய உடன்பாடின்றி எதையும் செய்ய நான் விரும்பவில்லை. அவன் என்றும் உம்மோடு இருக்க உம்மை விட்டுச் சிறிது காலம் பிரிந்திருந்தான் போலும்! இனி அவனை நீர் அடிமையாக அல்ல, அடிமையை விட மேலானவனாக, அதாவது உம்முடைய அன்பார்ந்த சகோதரனாக ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும். அவன் என் தனிப்பட்ட அன்புக்குரியவன். அப்படியானால் மனிதன் என்னும் முறையிலும் ஆண்டவரைச் சார்ந்தவன் என்னும் முறையிலும் அவன் எத்துணை மேலாக உம் அன்புக்குரியவனாகிறான்! எனவே, நமக்குள்ள நட்புறவைக் கருதி, என்னை ஏற்றுக்கொள்வது போல் அவனையும் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளும்.

சாலமோனின் ஞான நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 9: 13-18

“கடவுளின் திட்டத்தை அறிபவர் யார்? ஆண்டவரின் திருவுளத்தைக் கண்டுபிடிப்பவர் யார்? நிலையற்ற மனிதரின் எண்ணங்கள் பயனற்றவை, நம்முடைய திட்டங்கள் தவறக் கூடியவை. அழிவுக்குரிய உடல் ஆன்மாவைக் கீழ்நோக்கி அழுத்துகிறது. இந்த மண்கூடாரம் கவலை தோய்ந்த மனதுக்குச் சுமையாய் அமைகிறது.

மண்ணுலகில் உள்ளவற்றையே நாம் உணர்வது அரிது! அருகில் இருப்பவற்றையே கடும் உழைப்பால்தான் கண்டுபிடிக்கிறோம். இவ்வாறிருக்க, விண்ணுலகில் இருப்பவற்றைத் தேடிக் கண்டுபிடிப்பவர் யார்? நீர் ஞானத்தை அருளாமலும், உயர் வானிலிருந்து உம் தூய ஆவியை அனுப்பாமலும் இருந்தால், உம் திட்டத்தை யாரால் அறிந்து கொள்ள இயலும்? இவ்வாறு மண்ணுலகில் வாழ்வோருடைய வழிகள் செம்மைப்படுத்தப்பட்டன. உமக்கு உகந்தவற்றை மனிதர் கற்றுக் கொண்டனர்; ஞானத்தால் மீட்பு அடைந்தனர்.”

Anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 14: 25-33 

Great crowds accompanied Jesus on his way and he turned and spoke to them. ‘If any man comes to me without hating his father, mother, wife, children, brothers, sisters, yes and his own life too, he cannot be my disciple. Anyone who does not carry his cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.

  ‘And indeed, which of you here, intending to build a tower, would not first sit down and work out the cost to see if he had enough to complete it? Otherwise, if he laid the foundation and then found himself unable to finish the work, the onlookers would all start making fun of him and saying, “Here is a man who started to build and was unable to finish.” Or again, what king marching to war against another king would not first sit down and consider whether with ten thousand men he could stand up to the other who advanced against him with twenty thousand? If not, then while the other king was still a long way off, he would send envoys to sue for peace. So in the same way, none of you can be my disciple unless he gives up all his possessions.’

He is a slave no longer, but a dear brother in the Lord

Philemon 9-10,12-17 

This is Paul writing, an old man now and, what is more, still a prisoner of Christ Jesus. I am appealing to you for a child of mine, whose father I became while wearing these chains: I mean Onesimus. I am sending him back to you, and with him – I could say – a part of my own self. I should have liked to keep him with me; he could have been a substitute for you, to help me while I am in the chains that the Good News has brought me. However, I did not want to do anything without your consent; it would have been forcing your act of kindness, which should be spontaneous. I know you have been deprived of Onesimus for a time, but it was only so that you could have him back for ever, not as a slave any more, but something much better than a slave, a dear brother; especially dear to me, but how much more to you, as a blood-brother as well as a brother in the Lord. So if all that we have in common means anything to you, welcome him as you would me.

Who can divine the will of God?

Wisdom 9: 13-18 

What man indeed can know the intentions of God?

Who can divine the will of the Lord?

The reasonings of mortals are unsure

and our intentions unstable;

for a perishable body presses down the soul,

and this tent of clay weighs down the teeming mind.

It is hard enough for us to work out what is on earth,

laborious to know what lies within our reach;

who, then, can discover what is in the heavens?

As for your intention, who could have learnt it, had you not granted Wisdom and sent your holy spirit from above?

Thus have the paths of those on earth been straightened

and men been taught what pleases you,

and saved, by Wisdom.
