என் கடவுளாகிய ஆண்டவரே, உம்மிடம் அடைக்கலம் புகுந்தேன்; என்னைத் துரத்துவோர் அனைவரிடமிருந்தும் என்னைக் காப்பாற்றித் தப்புவியும்.

இல்லையெனில், என் எதிரிகள் சிங்கம்போல என்னைப் பீறிக் கிழித்துப் போடுவார்கள்; விடுவிப்போர் எவரும் இரார். - பல்லவி

யோவா 3: 16

தம் ஒரே மகன்மீது நம்பிக்கை கொள்ளும் எவரும் அழியாமல் நிலைவாழ்வு பெறும் பொருட்டு அந்த மகனையே அளிக்கும் அளவுக்குக் கடவுள் உலகின்மேல் அன்புகூர்ந்தார்.

அக்காலத்தில்

யூதர்களின் திருவிழா கூட்டத்தில் சிலர் இயேசுவின் வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டு, “வரவேண்டிய இறைவாக்கினர் உண்மையில் இவரே” என்றனர். வேறு சிலர், “மெசியா இவரே” என்றனர். மற்றும் சிலர், “கலிலேயாவிலிருந்தா மெசியா வருவார்? தாவீதின் மரபிலிருந்தும் அவர் குடியிருந்த பெத்லகேம் ஊரிலிருந்தும் மெசியா வருவார் என்றல்லவா மறைநூல் கூறுகிறது?” என்றனர். இப்படி அவரைக் குறித்து மக்களிடையே பிளவு ஏற்பட்டது. சிலர் அவரைப் பிடிக்க விரும்பினர். ஆனால் யாரும் அவரைத் தொடவில்லை.

தலைமைக் குருக்களும் பரிசேயர்களும் அனுப்பியிருந்த காவலர்கள் அவர்களிடம் திரும்பி வந்தார்கள். அவர்கள் காவலர்களிடம், “ஏன் அவனைப் பிடித்துக் கொண்டு வரவில்லை?” என்று கேட்டார்கள். காவலர் மறுமொழியாக, “அவரைப்போல எவரும் என்றுமே பேசியதில்லை” என்றனர். பரிசேயர் அவர்களைப் பார்த்து, “நீங்களும் ஏமாந்து போனீர்களோ? தலைவர்களிலாவது பரிசேயர்களிலாவது அவனை நம்புவோர் யாராவது உண்டா? இம்மக்கள் கூட்டத்துக்குத் திருச்சட்டம் தெரியாது. இவர்கள் சபிக்கப்பட்டவர்கள்” என்றனர். அங்கிருந்த பரிசேயருள் ஒருவர் நிக்கதேம். அவரே முன்பு ஒரு நாள் இயேசுவிடம் வந்தவர். அவர் அவர்களிடம், “ஒருவரது வாக்குமூலத்தைக் கேளாது, அவர் என்ன செய்தாரென்று அறியாது ஒருவருக்குத் தீர்ப்பளிப்பது நமது சட்டப்படி முறையாகுமா?” என்று கேட்டார். அவர்கள் மறுமொழியாக, “நீரும் கலிலேயரா என்ன? மறைநூலைத் துருவி ஆய்ந்து பாரும். அப்போது கலிலேயாவிலிருந்து இறைவாக்கினர் யாரும் தோன்றுவதில்லை என்பதை அறிந்துகொள்வீர்” என்றார்கள். அவர்கள் ஒவ்வொருவரும் அவரவர் வீட்டுக்குச் சென்றார்கள்.

இறைவாக்கினர் எரேமியா நூலிலிருந்து வாசகம் 11: 18-20

‘ஆண்டவர் எனக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தினார்; நானும் புரிந்து கொண்டேன். பின்னர் நீர் அவர்களின் செயல்களை எனக்குக் காட்டினீர். வெட்டுவதற்குக் கொண்டு செல்லப்படும் சாந்தமான செம்மறிபோல் இருந்தேன்; அவர்கள் எனக்கு எதிராய், ‘மரத்தைப் பழத்தோடு அழிப்போம்; வாழ்வோரின் நாட்டிலிருந்து அவனை அகற்றிவிடுவோம்; அவன் பெயர் மறக்கப்படட்டும்’ என்று சொல்லிச் சதித் திட்டம் தீட்டியதை நான் அறியாதிருந்தேன்.

படைகளின் ஆண்டவரே, நீர் நேர்மையோடு தீர்ப்பிடுபவர்; உள்ளுணர்வுகளையும் இதயச் சிந்தனைகளையும் சோதித்தறிபவர்; நீர் அவர்களைப் பழிவாங்குவதை நான் காணவேண்டும். ஏனெனில், என் வழக்கை உம்மிடம் எடுத்துரைத்துள்ளேன்.

The Law does not allow us to pass judgement on a man without hearing him

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.John 7: 40-52 

Several people who had been listening to Jesus said, ‘Surely he must be the prophet’, and some said, ‘He is the Christ’, but others said, ‘Would the Christ be from Galilee? Does not scripture say that the Christ must be descended from David and come from the town of Bethlehem?’ So the people could not agree about him. Some would have liked to arrest him, but no one actually laid hands on him.

  The police went back to the chief priests and Pharisees who said to them, ‘Why haven’t you brought him?’ The police replied, ‘There has never been anybody who has spoken like him.’ ‘So’ the Pharisees answered ‘you have been led astray as well? Have any of the authorities believed in him? Any of the Pharisees? This rabble knows nothing about the Law – they are damned.’ One of them, Nicodemus – the same man who had come to Jesus earlier – said to them, ‘But surely the Law does not allow us to pass judgement on a man without giving him a hearing and discovering what he is about?’ To this they answered, ‘Are you a Galilean too? Go into the matter, and see for yourself: prophets do not come out of Galilee.’

'Let us cut him off from the land of the living, so that his name may be quickly forgotten'

A Reading from the Book of Jeremiah 11 : 18-20 

The Lord revealed it to me; I was warned. O Lord, that was when you opened my eyes to their scheming. I for my part was like a trustful lamb being led to the slaughter-house, not knowing the schemes they were plotting against me, ‘Let us destroy the tree in its strength, let us cut him off from the land of the living, so that his name may be quickly forgotten!’

But you, the Lord of Hosts, who pronounce a just sentence,

who probe the loins and heart,

let me see the vengeance you will take on them,

for I have committed my cause to you.
