இஸ்ரயேலரிடத்திலும் இத்தகைய நம்பிக்கையை நான் கண்டதில்லை.

✠ லூக்கா எழுதிய நற்செய்தியிலிருந்து வாசகம் 7: 1-10

அக்காலத்தில்

இயேசு கப்பர்நாகுமுக்குச் சென்றார். அங்கே நூற்றுவர் தலைவர் ஒருவரின் பணியாளர் ஒருவர் நோயுற்றுச் சாகும் தறுவாயிலிருந்தார். அவர்மீது தலைவர் மதிப்பு வைத்திருந்தார். அவர் இயேசுவைப் பற்றிக் கேள்விப்பட்டு யூதரின் மூப்பர்களை அவரிடம் அனுப்பித் தம் பணியாளரைக் காப்பாற்ற வருமாறு வேண்டினார்.

அவர்கள் இயேசுவிடம் வந்து, “நீர் இவ்வுதவி செய்வதற்கு அவர் தகுதியுள்ளவரே. அவர் நம் மக்கள்மீது அன்புள்ளவர்; எங்களுக்கு ஒரு தொழுகைக்கூடமும் கட்டித் தந்திருக்கிறார்” என்று சொல்லி அவரை ஆர்வமாய் அழைத்தார்கள். இயேசு அவர்களோடு சென்றார்.

வீட்டுக்குச் சற்றுத் தொலையில் வந்துகொண்டிருந்தபோதே நூற்றுவர் தலைவர் தம் நண்பர்கள் சிலரை அனுப்பிப் பின்வருமாறு கூறச் சொன்னார்: “ஐயா, உமக்குத் தொந்தரவு வேண்டாம்; நீர் என் வீட்டிற்குள் அடியெடுத்து வைக்க நான் தகுதியற்றவன். உம்மிடம் வரவும் என்னைத் தகுதியுள்ளவனாக நான் கருதவில்லை. ஆனால் ஒரு வார்த்தை சொல்லும்; என் ஊழியர் நலமடைவார். நான் அதிகாரத்துக்கு உட்பட்டவன். என் அதிகாரத்துக்கு உட்பட்ட படைவீரரும் உள்ளனர். நான் ஒருவரிடம் ‘செல்க’ என்றால் அவர் செல்கிறார்; வேறு ஒருவரிடம் ‘வருக’ என்றால் அவர் வருகிறார். என் பணியாளரைப் பார்த்து ‘இதைச் செய்க’ என்றால் அவர் செய்கிறார்."

இவற்றைக் கேட்ட இயேசு அவரைக் குறித்து வியப்புற்றார். தம்மைப் பின் தொடரும் மக்கள் கூட்டத்தினரைத் திரும்பிப் பார்த்து, “இஸ்ரயேலரிடத்திலும் இத்தகைய நம்பிக்கையை நான் கண்டதில்லை என உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்” என்றார். அனுப்பப்பட்டவர்கள் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்பி வந்தபோது அப்பணியாளர் நலமுற்றிருப்பதைக் கண்டார்கள்.

உம்மைத் தேடுவோர் அனைவரும் உம்மில் மகிழ்ந்து களிகூரட்டும்! நீர் அருளும் மீட்பில் நாட்டங்கொள்வோர், ‘ஆண்டவர் எத்துணை பெரியவர்!’ என்று எப்போதும் சொல்லட்டும்! - பல்லவி

உங்களிடையே பிளவுகள் இருக்கும் நிலையில் நீங்கள் ஒன்றாகக் கூடி வந்து உண்பது ஆண்டவரின் திருவிருந்து அல்ல.

திருத்தூதர் பவுல் கொரிந்தியருக்கு எழுதிய முதல் திருமுகத்திலிருந்து வாசகம் 11: 17-26

சகோதரர் சகோதரிகளே,

இவ்வறிவுரைகளைக் கொடுக்கும் நான் உங்களைப் பாராட்ட மாட்டேன். ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் ஒன்றுகூடி வரும்போது நன்மையை விடத் தீமையே மிகுதியாக விளைகிறது. முதலாவது, நீங்கள் சபையாகக் கூடிவரும்போது உங்களிடையே பிளவுகள் இருப்பதாகக் கேள்விப்படுகிறேன். ஓரளவு அதை நம்புகிறேன். உங்களிடையே கட்சிகள் இருக்கத்தான் செய்யும். அப்போதுதான் உங்களுள் தகுதியுள்ளவர்கள் யாரென வெளிப்படும். இந்நிலையில் நீங்கள் ஒன்றாகக் கூடி வந்து உண்பது ஆண்டவரின் திருவிருந்து அல்ல. ஏனெனில் நீங்கள் உண்ணும் நேரத்தில், ஒவ்வொருவரும் தாம் கொண்டுவந்த உணவை மற்றவர்களுக்கு முந்தியே உண்டுவிடுகிறீர்கள். இதனால் சிலர் பசியாய் இருக்க, வேறு சிலர் குடிவெறியில் இருக்கிறார்கள். உண்பதற்கும் குடிப்பதற்கும் உங்களுக்கு வீடுகள் இல்லையா? அல்லது கடவுளின் திருச்சபையை இழிவுபடுத்தி, இல்லாதவர்களை வெட்கப்படுத்துகிறீர்களா? என்ன சொல்வது? உங்களைப் பாராட்டுவதா? இதில் உங்களைப் பாராட்டமாட்டேன்.

ஆண்டவரிடமிருந்து நான் எதைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டேனோ அதையே உங்களிடம் ஒப்படைக்கிறேன். அதாவது, ஆண்டவராகிய இயேசு காட்டிக்கொடுக்கப்பட்ட அந்த இரவில், அப்பத்தை எடுத்து, கடவுளுக்கு நன்றி செலுத்தி, அதைப் பிட்டு, “இது உங்களுக்கான என் உடல். இதை என் நினைவாகச் செய்யுங்கள்” என்றார். அப்படியே உணவு அருந்தியபின் கிண்ணத்தையும் எடுத்து, “இந்தக் கிண்ணம் என் இரத்தத்தால் நிலைப்படுத்தப்படும் புதிய உடன்படிக்கை. நீங்கள் இதிலிருந்து பருகும் போதெல்லாம் என் நினைவாக இவ்வாறு செய்யுங்கள்” என்றார். ஆதலால் நீங்கள் இந்த அப்பத்தை உண்டு கிண்ணத்திலிருந்து பருகும்போதெல்லாம் ஆண்டவருடைய சாவை அவர் வரும்வரை அறிவிக்கிறீர்கள்.

A Reading from the Holy Gospel according to St.Luke 7: 1-10 

When Jesus had come to the end of all he wanted the people to hear, he went into Capernaum. A centurion there had a servant, a favourite of his, who was sick and near death. Having heard about Jesus he sent some Jewish elders to him to ask him to come and heal his servant. When they came to Jesus they pleaded earnestly with him. ‘He deserves this of you’ they said ‘because he is friendly towards our people; in fact, he is the one who built the synagogue.’ So Jesus went with them, and was not very far from the house when the centurion sent word to him by some friends: ‘Sir,’ he said ‘do not put yourself to trouble; because I am not worthy to have you under my roof; and for this same reason I did not presume to come to you myself; but give the word and let my servant be cured. For I am under authority myself, and have soldiers under me; and I say to one man: Go, and he goes; to another: Come here, and he comes; to my servant: Do this, and he does it.’ When Jesus heard these words he was astonished at him and, turning round, said to the crowd following him, ‘I tell you, not even in Israel have I found faith like this.’ And when the messengers got back to the house they found the servant in perfect health.

If each one hurries to be first, it is not the Lord's Supper you are eating

A Reading from the First Letter of St.Paul to the Corinthians 11:17-26,33 

On the subject of instructions, I cannot say that you have done well in holding meetings that do you more harm than good. In the first place, I hear that when you all come together as a community, there are separate factions among you, and I half believe it – since there must no doubt be separate groups among you, to distinguish those who are to be trusted. The point is, when you hold these meetings, it is not the Lord’s Supper that you are eating, since when the time comes to eat, everyone is in such a hurry to start his own supper that one person goes hungry while another is getting drunk. Surely you have homes for eating and drinking in? Surely you have enough respect for the community of God not to make poor people embarrassed? What am I to say to you? Congratulate you? I cannot congratulate you on this.

  For this is what I received from the Lord, and in turn passed on to you: that on the same night that he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread, and thanked God for it and broke it, and he said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this as a memorial of me.’ In the same way he took the cup after supper, and said, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Whenever you drink it, do this as a memorial of me.’ Until the Lord comes, therefore, every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are proclaiming his death. So to sum up, my dear brothers, when you meet for the Meal, wait for one another.
